  1. ... There a lot of straight roads in Northumberland and County Durham. Need to check on their origin. Straight, but not flat, as there are plenty of steep valleys and roads signs saying “Hidden Dip”. Is that a code for secret guacamole, I wonder?... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2024/09/09/postcards-from-the-other-periphery-2024-29/
  2. ... At the time of writing I’m cosy inside the caravan listening to the rain beating down. Elsewhere in the field there are a couple of people with car top tents. I wonder how they’re getting on. They’re more hardy folk than I am. ... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2024/09/08/postcards-from-the-other-periphery-2024-28/
  3. Grey and misty - not too soggy and not too foggy. You're seeing the coast, I'm in the hills 40 miles away.
  4. Actually did - it is, as I suspected, an air lock in the suction pipe. It blew through OK in the end. I thought I'd try "one last time". It may have heard the threat in my voice.. I think that I'll have to try to strip it all out when I get home and if that doesn't work but a new inlet hose. The test, of course, will be seeing if the shower works. So I hope the north east is stuck with me for a few more days.
  5. I think I’m going to have to cut this trip short - the caravan water pump is running but no water’s coming through. This site has no showers or washing up facilities. I’m reading the manual to see if there’s any remedy but …
  6. ... Getting ready this morning was out of the ordinary - wearing a suit in a caravan - and remembering how to knot a tie. ... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2024/09/07/postcards-from-the-other-periphery-2024-27/
  7. ... a hump backed bridge to outdo all others, probably built by the Wallington Estate former owners. It has the hallmarks of a grand entrance. And it is as steep as it looks. ... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2024/09/06/postcards-from-the-other-periphery-2024-26/
  8. I do like t, but have something different for Lindisfarne. If the weather clears enough to allow me to get there with some semblance of light when I can take pics Today would just have been grey
  9. Shopping lists on hols are difficult - involved planning - something I'm not very good at taking to completion - at home I have a backup I can adapt in the freezer if I forget, but here in the woods (no bears to perform what bears normally do in the woods) I'm very relaxed - not to mention lazy.
  10. I think I may be sitting under it, but it's clearing. Breakfast had, making (shopping) list.
  11. ... I’ve joined the pensioners holiday brigade, although not on a coach trip to a seaside hotel and making a half a pint in the hotel bar last all night. ... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2024/09/05/postcards-from-the-other-periphery-2024-25/
  12. ... Further news is awaited but the breath is not bated. ... https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2024/09/04/postcards-from-home-2024-15/
  13. It was the one with availability when I wanted to book. I know I should ahve done it sooner but ...
  14. Agree - the challenge for me is remembering where the light switches in the house are placed.
