Interesting stuff, looking a bit wider on the map...if the Manifold line from Waterhouses to Hulme End was still open I'd like to think the Cavalier Inn at Grindon would still be doing a roaring trade.
Sadly the whole village seems deserted these days, you have to trek through the valley to Wetton is search of pickled eggs and a pint of mild...can be quite unnerving at night for some.
