  1. Thanks grimley, james and my mate George. By the way I posted those signs, bit late I know sorry. Hope you still have a use for them. The bits on the roof. Fans I reluctantly had to buy from pikestuff in the US as I couldn't make them. The pipes are copied from Tremorfa steel works, I just seen some upvc pipe laying around in work. primed itm then sponged on some rust paint and added porwders. Came out really well. Had enough in the atic now been there all day and think I have o'd. George I still fancy that 66 in the yard...the mpd may now be scaled down to just a stable\fuel point as I'm fed up of buildings.lol Grimley, I'm going to get another 56 then renumber and rename to British Steel Llanwern. Any ideas how to remove the County of South Glam transfer that's in there ? Got some more pics, can't uploaded via blackberry sorry. Regads Leon.
  2. Morning all, got a little bit more done on the steelworks yesterday. Here are some pictures. Pic 1 Steelworks with new extension on right, pic 2,3 New extension in place, Pic 4,5 & 6 Steelwork close up. Pic7 & 8 old redundant sidings.
  3. Correction...the wagon wks and depot is connected to the rest of the layout just before the yard enterance... Missed off the plan sorry.
  4. Evening all, Done some bits in the atic over the weekend but mostly on the baseboards and electrics, not the layout itself (No more money til payday) Hoping to make a start on the last piece of the layout which is the depot area this week, the track has been laid and wired for sometime now but no ballast. Still got problems with the lectrics. Never wired any power to the 13 points so everytime a train passes over one it stops as I guess there is paint on the blades, what can I do now as there all fixed and ballasted. (Boo Boo) I have attached a rough track plan and a pic of the man himself for anybody who is interested. One more glass of wine then bed, Goodnight all.
  5. Have a beer mate, that will perk things up....lol
  6. Mate, I really love the EWS 66, just looks power ! I Was looking at one yesterday in the shop, but...it goes against all my rules..I dont wont anything EWS... I like the railfreight and sector liveries too much lol. I think one day though I will give in and get one.... Was toying with the idea of a 59 from ARC or Foster Yeoman as they did work on the odd Iron Ore train from Port Talbot - Llanwern and also to Machen Quarry I believe... I thinks a GM 59 is as close to a GM 66 as I can get...... ! Your shed is looking great, was you going to cover it in anything ? I have piles of corrigated plastic from work I used to build my buildings with, there old sale signs and once you spray paint them they look good, or so I think. Cheers Leon.
  7. As Progess goes on albeit slow the yard starts to become busier, pic 1,2&3 - Pristine ex works Rfd 37406 (so new not even any pipes fitted !) arrives with a short enterprise service from Newport, pic 4 - Is the new, old dissused water tower still to be finished.
  8. Thanks Brian for the pics there priceless. Like the one of the coil warehouse showing four different shades were I assume extensions/repairs have been made. I also never knew there was CCTV there which I had added to mine. Plenty of detail to add in the future. Thanks again Leon
  9. Jamie, Its Tremorfa Steelworks in Cardiff, South Wales. Thats what im trying to base my layout on. Leon.
  10. Thanks Jamie I will try that, I was considering sandpaper for the area's aroung the buildings instead of concrete what you think ? Chris, Thanks for the suggestion. There more than welcome. I agree, I have been thinking about the background.. The low relif warehouses I have built at the back of the layout are not permanantly fixed yet, what sort of background do you think ? I was thinking just a light grey to represent South Wales weather...lol All three loco's failed tonight on the layout, my new ish Hornby 56 just sits there with the lights on but nobody is home ? it wont move any ideas (motor)? im using Bachmann DCC, does it need to be reset ? Class 09and 60 dies on the points I think because I have only relied on power to them from the point blades which I think now are grimey with all the spray paint and grass..... There was a wire dropping down from all the points which "was in the way" so I cut them off...! Was that there to send power to the blades maybe ? Off to drown my sorrows in a can of Strongbow, anyone wanna join me ? Leon.
  11. Brian, that would be fab, I was going to ask you I see you have some on other threads. I use to have loads as I did my work experiance at ASW over ten years ago. Unfortunatly I have them no more. My email addy is : mailittomenow@hotmail.co.uk or leonbrown@blackberry.orange.co.uk I feel its still missing something so pictures would be very helpfull and very kind of you to help, I owe you a beer. Thanks Leon.
  12. Thanks Guy & Jamie, I did'nt want to putt too much "clutter" near the tracks to try to keep that open, industrial wasteland atmosphere, still need to weather the spoil tips. I got the idea from Newports Alexanda Dock Junction here in S Wales and Bristols Stoke Gifford. In another area I want to try to model disused sidings with just the sleepers left, this will prob be in the space adjacent to the Steelworks to the left of the lorries as you look at the pic. Thanks for your comments and interest guys. Leon.
  13. Yeah soz mate, jus been in work today. Will PM you tonight when I get in. Cheers Leon.
  14. Hi, Done a little bit of weathering on the steelworks using powders, not as easy as I thought. The last two pictures show the area used for dumping used ballast.
  15. Thanks Pieman, very helpfull. Any idea where I can get the fibre brush pencil ? Is Isopropyl alcohol a form of mehtolated spirit ? Which part of the South Wales mainline do you live ? Cheers Leon
  16. Thanks Jamie, I will get some track cleaner. I have used a track rubber and White spirit. The locos are stopping on the point work, I was wondering if there is paint on the side rails that touch the tracks leading to the points ? I hav'nt got any wires with power going to the points - maybe that was a mistake ? Cheers Leon
  17. I like that one Branchie, thanks Jamie the CCTV cams I seen on a Network Southeast layout on here, cant think of the name. There from Ten comandments, cost about ??6.50 for two wall mounted and two on poles, bit fidly to assemble keep getting glue everywhere ! Its June 6th Goergie 2010. Have any of you guys oiled your loco's yet. Mine were running great until I started painting and using weathering powders now they stutter ! I dont think its the wiring as they ran fine until I sprayed the track work with sleeper grime. I think I need to oil them ? Cheers Leon
  18. Thanks Georgie, just frustrating I dont have more time. Your layout it moving at a speedy pace, well done.
  19. Thanks Pieman. Got a little work done over the weekend on the Steelworks, Fiancee not very happy when I sneak up into the atic instead of writting wedding invites....! Uploaded some more pics, still alot of work to do on the steelworks, more detail and weathering. Some gaps around the base to be covered once I fix it down perm.
  20. Had a fews weeks away from the atic over Christmas so not much progress, need to get motivated and get things moving along. Still too many unfinished area's.
  21. Undetailed 60062 sits next to the unfinished wagon works.
  22. Expensive..! CCTV Arrive for steelworks, and last area left is Traction Maintenace Depot area.
  23. Thanks Ra2, although the lorry is Irish, lol. Cant seem to find any local hauliers yet. Think I still need to get a more Industrial South Wales feel, any ideas anyone ?
  24. Work continued on the steelwoerks this evening for an hour or so.
