Hello
Can anyone help with the following please:-
Were any ex-LNER Thomson suburban carriages (including Lav composites) repainted into BR blue livery at the end of their careers and if so are there any photos of them.
Thanks in advance

Hello
Can someone please share a roof shot of the original Test Coach Iris 975010 please (ex M79900). I am building a 4mm model of it and am trying to get the correct arrangement for the pipes on the roof. Thanks in advance

Hi Jeff
Love your Dreadnought on your thread, nice work!
The Harrow Dreadnought kits I have consist of white metal sides, but the rest of the bodies are resin so weight not too much of an issue. I have a Heljan met Bobo to pull them.
Know what you mean about the Harrow LT unit kits they are darn heavy and take a bit of shifting.

Thank you all for taking the time to help me out. Great info about the livery.
The kits are the original Harrow white metal body variety with sparse underframe detail (although I plan to do something about that!)
Will give Radley's a call re the K2 bogies;
Best Regards

Hello
I have recently picked up a rake of Harrow models Dreadnought kits.
Can anyone help me with the following please:-
What livery did the LT Dreadnoughts carry in the late 1950's. Were they still in teak or repainted into maroon, also were the roofs painted red and the carriage ends painted red as well (or were just the brake ends ).?
Is there anyone who manufactures K2 bogies which these carriages were fitted with at this time?
Thanks in advance

Can I ask a question please
There is an excellent wealth of knowledge on things LNER/ Eastern Region here.
Were Quad Art sets ever mixed ie- the composite set from one set running with the all third set from another or were they always in fixed formations?
Thanks
John

Hello
Can I please ask one more question please do any of you know if the Quad Arts ever ran in mixed sets i.e.- The composite part of one set coupled with the all third set from another or were they always permanently coupled?
Thanks

Didn't think of looking there, John although Steve Banks's web site is bookmarked on my computer! The set you've chosen doesn't seem to have the lower footboards in that photo, so that's one job at least that you won't have to do. Interesting to see the 'uncoupled' end of set 71 on that page too; unfortunately the short buffers and special coupling are in shade - it's difficult to find out what they looked like.
Hi Steve
Lots of different details amongst the sets. I suppose the lack of info/ photos in certain aspects is the old problem of people not recording what is perceived as the mundane until it is gone.
With the lack of space I have available I will have to run them as single sets, will put some photos on RM when thy have progressed a bit more

Hello
Thanks all for taking the time to reply
I have found the set number is 61 (same photo is on Steve Banks site didn't know about this site before)
I have a 1929 set on my workbench at the moment a mix of Kirk/Cooper craft sides and Mjt bits and the earlier set would make an interesting contrast

Certainly a Quad Art set; one of the earlier ones (ex GN?) with Fox bogies, top lights in the doors and GN style Guard's lookouts.
I thought I had the info requested somewhere, but I'm still wondering where!
Thanks Steve
Looks like the top lights are plated over.
The data on set numbers and how they relate to carriage numbers does seem a little scarce for these earlier sets.

Are you sure this is a Quad-Art set, I have researched these vehicles as I am building a kit and the numbers you quote and show on the photographs do not appear in the spreadsheet I have created, I wonder it may be a Quint-Art set but I do not have access to the information at the moment. If nobody comes up with an answer by Wednesday I will look in the library at the HMRS Museum & Study Centre and see what I can find.
Hello
Thanks for getting back to me. I don't think it is a Quint Art I reckon if it is not an LNER built set it is probably one of the sets that were produced when the Great Northern suburban twins were rebuilt into quads. The odd thing about the photo is that is captioned as being taken in Hull, although I guess towards the end of their lives these sets strayed from their original home.

Hello
I recently found a photo of a 1925 build LNER Quad art set running in BR days with Fox bogies and gas lighting, the set has the carriages 48601 and 48602 in it.
Can anyone help me out with the set number of these carriages please?
The Harris book is very good but does not have set number information
Many thanks in advance.

Hello
I am currently enjoying getting stuck into building a pair of Quad Arts in 4mm (using Kirk, Cooper craft and MJT parts)with the help of some excellent info from the wonderful RM Web.
Can anyone please advise me of the following:-
What is the correct size decals for the set numbers that are on the end of each Quad Art set and which company manufactures them?
Does anyone manufacture suitable signage for the destination blinds in the Quad Art brake compartments and also for destination boards suitable for an N2 or an N7 (Kings+, Liverpool St etc.)
I am modelling the period from 1945 to 1951 very late LNER to early BR
Thanks in an advance and a Happy New Year to all RM Webbers.

Hello
I am building some LNER articulated stock (quad and quint art).
Does anyone have the article on LNER Quint arts that was in Modelling Railways Illustrated in the 1990's that you could scan for me please.
Thanks in advance

Hello
Thanks
I will check out that F/B group.
With regards to Q stock bogies I am thinking of maybe doing some surgery on a couple of bogie sides to produce both types using them as a basis for a mould then having a try at resin casting. I am going to use the MJT compensated bogie frames which go together and run well as the basis for the bogies and tweak the wheelbase of the bogie frames to suit.
I have some Q stock bodies on order from Mousa (Bill Bedford) which should be arriving in a few weeks.
Have had a major rethink about my modelling over the last couple of months and have decided to go with a London based Very early BR(ER)/LT layout. About 20 years ago I was involved in exhibiting a BR/LT layout 'Grove Park' with the Weston Railway Modellers. It was built by some fantastic modellers and I especially like the LT element so it kind of feels right to gravitate back to it.
Cheers

I built an Alexander K4 sometime in the 1990's...
Headlamps were fitted later!
And huge apologies to Tony for hijacking his thread with a few diesels.........
I've also built a few of his diesels - well before the Heljan offerings, Teddy Bear, BTH Type 1, North British Type 1 and Clayton, otherwise known as Classes 14, 15, 16, 17
For some reason I haven't got pics of my BTH
Just noticed the bent footsteps on the leading bogie
And my favourite Alexander kit - powered with a big Mashima can and Branchlines multibox.
They go together reasonably well, with a bit of fettling/modelling. If I had to build another Alexander kit, I certainly wouldn't say no.
Cheers,
Mick
Hello
Thanks for replies, hope I can make my K4 look half as good as Micks'
Cheers John

Hi Tony
I am about to make start on a Dave Alexander LNER K4 kit. Have you built one of these and are there any pitfalls I should out for?
Thanks John

Hello
Thanks for your reply,I did think that might be the case, but wasn't sure as the only photos I have seen of them towards the end of their lives are in black and white and I wondered if the odd one had lasted to be painted blue.
Kind Regards
John
