Yes, I certainly remember it. Had to walk with my Mum to the local shops and whilst holding her hand could not see her.

All rather bizarre....think I'll let my subscription lapse at renewal time.....

  4. Having to wear a long sleaved shirt and tie today at work. Feel like i'm being strangled. How do you cope those that have to do this every day?!

You have it easy these days. When I joined Barclays in 1964 you had to wear a dark suit, tie and white shirt (years before they started issuing uniforms). On Saturday mornings you could wear a sports jacket. tie and more colourful shirt.

  5. Road tax refunds. Does it happen automatically when you notify the DVLA of change of ownership? Their website is frustratingly ambiguous on the subject.

I part-exchanged my car recently and got an automatic refund of £7.50 representing representing 3 months unused tax

  6. Ouch! just had the flu jab. In and out in 10 minutes, well done NHS or at least our well organized health centre, Saturday open day...

Despite our local surgeries getting the second lowest settlements from the NHS our surgery has the jabs well organised - my jab was booked for 9:12am but I was done and on my way home by 9:06am.

  7. Has anyone been to Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg? Supposedly the largest 'model rail exhibition' in the world.

Went there a couple of years ago and spent a whole day there.

Pre-booked online for pre-determined entry slot so avoided any long queues.

The airport scene was absolutely stunning!!

  8. Tried to enter the 'exclusive' RMweb members competition. Typical website lets me register then says my password is wrong. Gave up and deleted email, this doesn't help Warners at all!!

  9. Finding a property to live in which also has a 25x10 space for the trainset is proving difficult.

You can buy my house when I pop my clogs and you'll get the train room you want.....but you'll also get a garden railway thrown in.

  10. The new NSandI website ..... what a crock sh*te, wonder how much the government frittred away on letting some IT company redesign that crap

  11. Just having a clearout in my lock-up garage and found some stuff wrapped in pages of the Daily Mail dated May 29. 1978 with full-page advert for Vauxhall Chevette Hatchback at prices from £2291 to £2920 including fitted front seat belts, car tax and VAT at 8%

    1. tetsudofan

      tetsudofan

OK, for £2920 you got a GLS-4 door. The 1256cc engine gives effortless cruising at 70mph and a healthy top speed of around 90mph....

  13. Was playing with the puppy last night, and I went to grab her face just as she tried the same for my hand. End result - don't poke an Akita's canine, you will lose and you will bleed everywhere. :D

Memories of my Akita I had when I lived in Japan. Just wait until she grows up - I'm just over 6ft tall and my Akita's paws reached my chest when he welcomed me home. Lovely dog though.

I took my late Dad to the Atom Bomb Museum in Hiroshima. He went very quiet. I ask him why. If that bomb had not been dropped he said, we probably would not have been standing there. He was on training for the invasion of Japan when the bomb was dropped.

  16. 31 hours on a plane! I'd rather take the boat.

    1. tetsudofan

      tetsudofan

31 hours sounds a bit excessive - unless you are on a super duper bargain ticket involving long transit times somewhere enroute

    1. tetsudofan
