  1. Good morning all, Dry and bright start to the day here. It will become cloudy later and there may be a few drops of rain this evening. 2°C rising to 8°C. Yesterday I seem to have upset a nerve as I was getting a lot of grief in the lower back and down my leg so much hobbling occurred. So far this morning it seems OK. The Boss is off to visit a friend in the next road later so I'm in charge! I think unspecified pottering is on the cards but there's always muddling if I feel so inclined. There's also plenty to do in the garden and as I'm now 7 weeks on from my op getting shot of Ernie the 'ernia I can't really use him as an excuse. I'm perfectly capable of doing stuff out there whilst being mindful of not doing anything stupid......ah that lets me off...I often do stupid. 🤪🙃 The boss is on the move and any minute now it will be timetogattamoveon. Have a good one, Bob.
  2. Good morning all, Dull and windy here, clouds may break up in the afternoon giving some late sunshine. 5°C rising to 9°C. We spent an enjoyable afternoon and evening celebrating Abbie's birthday. I was absolutely kernackered when I got home so unusually for me I went to bed quite early at 10.30 and didn't wake until The Boss brought me up a muggatea at 07.30. Nottalot planned today apart from a visit to Sainsbury's to get a few things that "we" prefer from there.; Great! Have a good one, Bob.
  3. Good morning all, Blue skies and sunshine here for now but the forecast says it will become very wet and windy later. 5°C rising to 10°C. Late on parade today although I've had a light breakfast, just toast and marmalade. Still feeling a bit full after last night's splendid meal out. A very entertaining evening and we didn't get home to bed until after 2 am. Yesterday's rugby went much as I expected so I won't dwell on that. Another match today which will have be recorded as we're off out with close family to a birthday lunch for Abbie who has reached the ripe old age of 25. It only seems like yesterday when I was holding her in the hospital a few hours after she'd been born. More coffee needed and then apparently I needtogettamoveon. Have a good one, Bob.
  4. Good morning all, Frosty start with blue skies and and sunshine for now. Forecast says it will cloud over later with spells of showery rain, possibly heavy in places. Breezy. 0°C rising to 9°C. Last night's TCs re the CH are now retracted. After my glass of wine I decided to switch everything off and leave it for a couple of hours. Then switched all back on, boiler ignited and the radiators started warming up. This morning it all fired up as usual and seems to be working OK for now so boilerman hopefully won't be needed. First task after breakfast is a walk to Asda, then I may muddle a bit. Still painting tiny scenic bits including a couple of horses and currently making a white metal farm wagon. First time I've tried a white metal kit, it's erm shall we say interesting especially as my ham fistedness damaged a tiny piece. I've also got a horse drawn coal wagon to build as well along with a yard crane. Hopefully the calm and patient GDB* will come to the fore. After lunch there's rugby to look forward to. Ireland v Wales and Scotland v England. Common sense tells me that the home sides should prevail but in the case of the latter, as always, I live in hope but won't hold my breath. Tonight we're off out with friends to other friends in the next road for dinner. We always have a good time there and I expect tonight to be no exception. Time to make tea for Herself. Have a good one, Bob. * No chance, this creature is actually extinct 😂
  5. Evenin' each, TCs in abundance here as the central heating is no longer heating! Boiler works, pump works but rads all cold. I suspect a 3-way motorised valve problem as switching it to manual has done nothing at all. Friendly boilerman contacted and told me to give him a call in the morning, if it's still kaput he will come to the rescue. At least it's not too cold at the moment and we do have back up electric heaters if required. I think I'll have another glass of Shiraz.
  6. I photocopy them and leave the originals in the box. The copies are kept together with the relevant decoder instructions in a couple of ring binders.
  7. Am I right in thinking that a price tag is only "An invitation to treat" and the vendor does not have to honour it? Or has that changed? Pipped at the post by Hal Nail. Just found this: https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/experts/article-7616547/Ten-times-wrong-consumer-rights.html
  8. Good morning all, Dry start today and we have clear blue skies. Bright spells to start with but cloud building later bringing showers, possibly heavy and the chance of some hail. It's a bit cooler at 4°C, might reach 9°C. I don't normally have a problem waking up in the morning and although I set an alarm, I almost always wake up about 10 minutes before it's due to go off, whatever time I set it for. Weird thing, the body clock. Is it just me or does that happen to others? Another day of nothing planned and like Bear MIUAIGA. Walking? Shopping? Sharking? Muddling? Quite possibly. Firstly though I will have some breakfast which as usual for a winter weekday will be porridge. Have a good one, Bob.
  9. Many years ago our old yard foreman at work had a couple of great sayings when he was , shall we say, somewhat exasperated with someone: "If brains were gunpowder you haven't got enough to blow the nits of a gnats nuts!" If he was really p!ssed off with one of the drivers it was " The best part of you ran down your father's leg."
  10. Still persisting down so I got wet retrieving some of the bins. I've got to shift some more once they're emptied. I like marmalade, particularly Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Bitter Seville so that is one reason I will continue to visit them. The Boss is waiting for a friend to pick her up for a regular brunch with a couple of old workmates. This leaves me free to do "stuff." Timetogerronwithit.
  11. Good morning all especially PB, glad to see you back. Dull here and it's damp and dismal as well. The rain is set to continue for a while yet and some thunder and lightning is possible. 9°C rising to 13°C. Bin men are late today. Once again Ocado are supplying everything we've asked for without any substitutions. This makes for A Happy Boss. Sainsbury's are becoming (almost) a distant memory. I say almost because there are a couple of products they sell that "we" prefer so that still means the occasional visit will be required. My BMI is currently 28.5 and has been for a while, it was a lot higher but I have managed to lose about a stone over the past year or so but now seem to be stuck. This may be is because I keep snacking on things I shouldn't although my booze intake has reduced considerably over the past few months. I was a bit concerned last week when i went for blood and other tests, particularly the Hba1c but I am still OK but too close to Type 2 for comfort so words of advice have been given and taken on board.. Apparently I should weigh between 9 stone and 12 stone 1lb! Fat chance of that, I've been over 12 stone since I was 16. When I was fully fit and playing rugby in my twenties I was13st 10lbs and am now 13st 13lbs, however what was muscle has disappeared and there seems to be a bit of a flab surplus. Height used to be 5'11" and a bit but I've shrunk to just over 5'9". More exercise needed but I'm not walking in the rain today. Have a good one, Bob.
  12. Good morning all, Raining steadily here, has been for a while and will continue to do so with some heavy and persistent spells. Breezy and mild. 9°C rising to 13°C. Don't think I'll be going to walk today except for the journey to The Shed. Never got into SF, but as a kid I did enjoy Journey Into Space on the radio. 😁 Used to read lots years ago but sadly not so much now. I did have hundreds of books but a few years ago for some reason now forgotten decided to dispose of the great majority. Possibly because I wasn't doing much reading and they were gathering dust. * @jamie92208 Re Chris F maybe his cousin @88C on here could help Jamie? Time to gettamoveon and have my porridge. Have a good one, Bob. *Thinking about it maybe it was something to do with getting my first computer.
  13. Good morning all, Dull but dry here and should stay like that for most of the day. Breezy later with the chance of some patchy rain. 9°C, might reach 13°C. Late here today although I was up at 06.50, just got sidetracked. Main task so far today has been taxiing The Boss to and from the hairdresser. Now that's dealt with I should be able to find something else to do but yet again enthusiasm is in hiding. Have a good one, Bob.
  14. Yep, scuppered. It was "Could you just..?" and Do you think that you could.." and "Would you mind..." and "Can you help me with..." At least she's making me some lunch now.
  15. Good morning all, Dry start with hints of blue sky but some patchy rain forecast however it should be drier and brighter this afternoon. 8°C rising to 14°C. Rugby watched and enjoyed yesterday and I expect TB @tigerburnie was sweating a bit as his Tigers were made to work hard for their victory. It will be a normal sort of day for me with a walk scheduled after breakfast and then a visit to The Shed.....unless The Boss comes up with one of her bright ideas to scupper my plans. Have a good one, Bob.
  16. Good morning all, I think it's been raining all night and still is. Sunny spells forecast for this afternoon with the occasional shower. Still mild at 10°C rising to 16°C. With my hernia op I arrived at hospital about 11.45, was taken to surgical ward at 12.15, anaesthetised at13.45, woke up just before 15.00 and told that I could go home at 17.00 provided I could urinate and with the added proviso that a responsible adult had to collect me and someone had to be with me for 24 hours. Son Steve collected me and he actually had to sign a receipt for me which I found hilarious. I was home by 18.00 and handed over to the care of The (Very Responsible) Boss....who is still telling me not to exert myself or lift anything heavier than the flippin' kettle! It seems however that pushing The Shark around does not now qualify as something I mustn't do. 😂 Hmm, whilst typing this the rain as eased off but the sky is still a dirty shade of grey. Usual Sunday rules apply here so a cooked breakfast will shortly be enjoyed. After that an Amazon parcel is due containing several assorted items including some muddling paint although I have enough to be getting on with for now so a bit more will be done today. This afternoon there is of course a rugby match to watch so that seems like a reasonable sort of day to be going on with. Timetogettamoveon..."She" is on the rampage. Have a good one, Bob.
  17. Evenin' each, It's raining here and is forecast to stay wet until about 01.00. Glad to hear that Dave's surgery went OK. Mine was over 5 weeks ago and no problems had whatsoever. Not supposed to do heavy lifting or violent exercise after the op for 6-8 weeks. TBH I haven't done violent exercise for some considerable time...years in fact and have no intention of starting that lark again. I've not had any problems with lifting things but am still being very careful. Lazy day for me but I have muddled a bit and painted some small scenic items. I received a 6 bottle case of wine from Laithwaites which was a special offer I couldn't refuse as it contained some of my favourite wines. Rugby watched and enjoyed as usual and fish and chips had for dinner. Will probably don the headphones now and listen to some music....still haven't got around to trying to play my guitar(s).
  18. Good morning all, Dull here. A mainly dry and cloudy day with a few bright intervals forecast. Mild at 10°C rising to14°C. Nottalot happening here. Muddled briefly yesterday but enthusiasm was lacking. Not sure what I'll be doing today yet but there is one rugby match to watch this afternoon. Further to The Q's reference to a Merlin engined car I found these: https://www.classicdriver.com/en/article/cars/john-dodd-and-merlin-engined-monstrosity-infuriated-rolls-royce Has Baz @Barry O bought it? 😂 Time for my porridge. Have a good one, Bob.
  19. Good morning all, Still dull but it's dry. Some bright spells forecast this morning with cloud following later and the chance of some isolated showers. Mild again at 10°C rising to 14°C. I've mentioned in the past that most of our Amazon deliveries are good with drivers actually handing over parcels. However we had a different take on it yesterday. Doorbell rang about 18.00hrs and I answered it within about 20 seconds to see Amazon man heading back towards his van. Looked on doorstep and couldn't see anything so called out after him. "It's by the back wheel of the car" said he...and so it was, propped up against it in full view of the road. "Strange place to leave it" said I. "Sorry Boss!" It takes all sorts I suppose. Been awake off and on since 03.30 thanks to the foxes making a racket. Today will see me either muddling or trying to pluck a stringed instrument or a combination of both...or neither. Tea to be taken up to The Boss first, then breakfast and then who knows? I don't. Have a good one, I.N. Decisive of Sutton.
  20. Good morning all, It's a bit dull and cloudy but should stay dry with bright spells although there is the chance of some rain later this afternoon. Very mild at 12°C rising to 15°C. Today's sole bin lorry came and went at 06.40. An Ocado delivery is due at 09.00 ish and once again they've got everything we've ordered. The Boss is becoming very impressed with them and they look like being a fixture for now although the occasional visit to Sainsbury's may still be needed. (Only once in 5 weeks so far I think, that must be some sort of record for us). We've also got deliveries due from the pharmacy and Amazon but they won't be here until a bit later so there will be time to fit in a walk. Among other things I've ordered a new guitar tuner and the intention is to wheel the instruments out of retirement and see if I can still strum a bit. I'm hoping that they haven't deteriorated by standing dormant for many years. I had intended to do this last year after my hand op but never got a round tuit. The interest has been (slightly) rekindled by some posts about stringed instruments on TNM. I'll start with the electric guitar as that has the lightest action and see where I go from there. Being naturally pessimistic I'm not expecting miracles, I was never a great guitarist but could occasionally manage to string some notes and chords together (sometimes even in the right order) to produce a recognisable tune. The Boss has been supplied with tea and it sounds like she's on the move so Ibettagettamoveon. Have a good one, Bob.
  21. It was raining while I had breakfast but had stopped by the time I went for my walk via Asda....until I left the store to come home when the falling damp stuff returned so I cut short my longer walk and came back by the shortest route. The Boss saw me coming and opened the door then burst out laughing as I dripped my way into the porch. I don't think I'll be venturing out again today. Muggacoffee time.
  22. Good morning all, Dull here again, no real surprise there. The ground looks pretty damp so it must have been raining earlier. More rain is due within the hour and an overcast, breezy, wet day is forecast. Some of the showers may be heavy. Very mild at 12°C rising to a high of 14°C. I have to go to Asda for some milk after breakfast, walk or car? Depends on how heavy the rain is. Other than that the day is mine own to please myself. Have a good one, Bob.
  23. None of mine stayed still enough or long enough on the plate to be photographed. 😂
  24. Evenin' each, Spent quite a bit of time on comparison sites and company's own websites getting quotes for house insurance. I think they're all in league with each other (and the devil) as everybody seems to be expensive now. A final decision will be made tomorrow. The good news is that I have pancaked and very nice they were too. Probably won't help the blood sugar levels but never mind, don't have them very often. Yet again the TV does not seem to have much of interest for me so I might dig out a DVD or listen to some music this evening.
  25. Good morning all, Dull. Rain due within the hour and more spells possible throughout the day. 7°C rising to 12°C. Suffering from a serious case of "slow" this morning, can't seem to raise enthusiasm for anything although there are certain tasks that need doing. Only just made my second muggatea and not even had a shave and shower yet. I suppose I bettagettamoveon before I get put on the naughty step. Have a good one, L.E Thargic.
