  1. That sounds like fun! And complicated. In real life, of course, wagons roll at different speeds for a variety of reasons, hence the retarders. I'm almost inspired to have a go. All I'd need would be a Cl13 with good gearing so it creeps happily (I know Hornby's is good for this, but one that's even better would be needed for a hump 13)

  4. It depends how much attention to detail someone would want from an RTR 13? There were numerous other detail differences (minor or major dependant on your view of these things, which judging by most comments on RMweb, would seem to be 'deal-breakers'), which is one challenge as a 'generic' 08 would fall short...
  5. Certainly does! I wasn't aware of that either. The tri-tone 'chime' horn was developed for the 91/DVT, I understand, due to the initial plan to run at 140mph/225 km/h to give sufficient warning for trackside staff.

  7. Of course, if you don’t fancy doing your own DIY conversion, there’s always Olivia’s Trains. Not available at the moment ‘due to a lack of donor models’ so no price. In 2014 they were charging £275, so at least £300 now?
  8. I haven't counted yet, but someone will, despite there only being three Class 13s, there were a number of livery variations, plus in the very early days they ran 'cab-to- former cab'. NMP.
  9. For those who haven't signed up to Rapido Trains UK's newsletter yet, the latest issue is now out. Alongside project updates, they've dangled a carrot of a OO RTR Class 13, if enough people would buy one... It would come out at around £300, they reckon. Rule 1 always applies! Talking about RTR OO BR diesels, the newsletter says: "With obvious opportunities few and far between, what gaps are left are risky territory. Take the Class 13, Tinsley Yard’s famous ‘master and slave’ shunters. It’s an iconic class for sure and not available RTR. But would enough people be prepared to pay £300 for a 'OO' gauge model? And are there several thousand people willing to spend that much to warrant the investment in producing it? Probably not. "Seriously, would £300 for a 'OO' gauge Class 13 put you off?   11. While Dapol can be 'hit and miss' with both detail and/or paint finish, its latest GW 2-6-0 has had good reviews, despite using its 'trademark' odd half-and-half stick on chimney which does look odd and 'toy like'. Shame.

  14. Has anyone tried fitting a resistor to reduce the LED output, given that oil lamps were presumably not very bright in real life (never seen a 1:1 in action)?
  15. I tried to order last night and had problems with a 'internal server error' fail. I've spoken with Gary at Naval & Military who apologies and says he can see a number of other orders that failed. He uses 3rd party software, which has never failed before, and says it's all up and running and advises people to try again. He also confirms that he does have small stock of the two Tourret books available.

A quick peruse shows there are 307 items in the 2021 international range, although I can't see any mention of new tooling.   20. During and since the weekend I've had a number of 'topic notification' emails, yet when I click the link, the post is not on the topic (Bargain Hunters Mk2). I assumed that maybe the poster had deleted the content (or the admin had) yet they seemed innocuous. I restarted my browser but it made no difference. I've just received another one, and as they are from at least three different posters, I'm beginning to think that it's an error.   21. I guessed it would be a 4-wheel wagon, as they are cheaper to manufacture, so went for the MTV/Zander as it’s a simple wagon that had a (relatively) long life. But, I’d have never gone for this in a million years. Indeed, I wasn’t even aware of them, and I class myself as a bit of a wagon geek...
  22. I'm going to put my fiver on the MTV (later the Zander), built from the 1970s onwards on 35t tank chassis and finished off in engineers' use. NMP EDIT: Paul Bartlett's page says: "From 1975 Standard wagon built new open box bodies on the underframes from 150 ESSO vacuum braked tank wagons.   23. Was only announced in the mag, and because MR is semi-banned into the broom cupboard behind the stairs under 'smaller suppliers' (despite the fact that they've delivered more than some of those in the 'manufacturers' category, it's not easy to see what's going on. Shame.
