I can't post it here but there is a photograph of a kilt clad army officer sitting with his legs apart displaying his family jewels and alongside was HM the Queen. At one time in some Scottish regiments it was the rule that nothing was worn under the kilt. Senior NCO's were supplied with swagger sticks with a small mirror on the bottom so that they could check that the men on parade complied. This ceased during WW1 when irritant gas was used. I was told this more than fifty years ago by a former Scots Guardsman. This was alluded to in 'Carry on up the Khyber'.
How these stories get endlessly repeated!

The C & O in the South West of Scotland?? He needs a geography lesson.

Mention has been made of changing the identity by renumbering. But alteration of the position of the ejector pipe (where fitted) might also be required. Has anyone explored how easy this might be?

Just half a mile outside Aberdeen City boundary but Arwen was so unkind to trees that we have hade no power for 8 full days i.e. no heat, light, ability to charge phones etc. We were not alone of course and some nice men came up from Wales to repair the lines. A few thousand homes in NE Scotland are still without power - some without water - but it seems to be even worse in Northumberland.

The name was originally 3 Gaelic words - the pool of the Son of God - so, logically each syllable has equal prominence. In practice, the "ma" has slightly less emphasis.

This is a Falcon Brass Wee Ben. Not too difficult as I recall.

There was a Stephen Poole kit but the dimensions were not quite right. Maybe a Roche drawing was used.

Any recommended decoder for this model, all references in the 17 pages seem to be to the TTS decoder.
Mine runs very well with a Laisdcc 8 pin.

Please don't blame the software then. This topic is a 'wishlist' for features - not grumbles.
Well, it's the software that's changed so I'm just expressing a wish.
Alan
P.S. Got it sorted now - thanks, Andy.

That's just something your browser was populating - not a site function. Bookmark one of the options such as Unread Content and put that on your Bookmarks bar.
Yes, I realise the browser was doing it - because it could. I am not clear that that it can do the same so cleanly now. I'll keep exploring.

There's an Unread content tab top right on the desktop version, or the left hand of the three icons on the mobile version that do the same thing. Alternatively under activity streams there are more options for your posts, Content I started or your threads, content I posted in.
Yes, I know, but I said "simple". I used to be able to click "chrome", type "R" (for RMweb/new content) and I was there. This is so laborious.

Can we have a simple "View new content"?

A long straight road runs alongside a long straight railway.
A car and a train are beside each other at one end.
The car sets off at 60mph along the road.
60 minutes later the train sets off at 120mph at which time the car was 60 miles away.
30 minutes after that the train has got to where the car was, but the car is now further 30 miles away.
15 minutes later the train has reached that second point but the car has travelled a further 15 miles.
7.5 minutes later the train has reached that third point but the car is now a further 7.5 miles away.
3.75 minutes later the train has reached that fourth point but the car is now a further 3.75 miles away.......
You probably have the pattern now. Every time the train reaches where the car was, the car has travelled further so it appears that the train will never catch up with the car.
Yet we all know that it will catch up.
Explain mathematically how this can be.
I think the question is deliberately framed to confuse. Let's generalise it. If the car can go at x miles per hour and the train can go k times as fast and they meet after n hours.
Then (n+1)x=nkx whence n=1/(k-1). So, if k=2 as in the question, they will meet after 1 hour. If the train can only go 50% faster, they will meet after 1/0.5 = 2 hours etc.

LNER is somewhat over represented in the current range.
.
Might it be argued that the LNER had a much greater diversity of locomotive classes than the other 3?

Where does Doric fall in the language thing, Alan?
Doric, i.e. the Scots dialect of the North East (of Scotland) is just a form of Scots that has been better preserved than any other in Scotland (although our friends in Orkney and Shetland might contest that ). Because of Norse influence, we have things like " 'I quinie couldna get ungrotten" ="The girl couldn't stop crying" and some similarities with the North East of England plus some influences of Gaelic - notably "F" in place of initial "Wh" e.g. "Faar ye gaa'n" = "Where are you going".
I think I should stop there!

Old Scots is just a variation of English.
Strictly speaking, both are dialects of Anglish with Scots being much closer to the original.

I just wish they would do the early Inverness version - no headlights.

For those who have expressed concern about Debs, she is not great with typing just now, but she has asked me to reassure you that the awl is still very sharp and any misdemeanours are being noted for future action.

Now I would like to publicly thank Alan – Benachie, who has tirelessly put together a daily newsletter for Debs – and this has really helped.
Addition - Debs has read this message and has asked me to add her deep gratitude and appreciation for his dedication and generous kindness in messaging, cannot be overstated.
Thanks to John and Debs for their kind words but I really don't think I'm any different from others who message Debs. Maybe I have more time, maybe I like the sound of my own keyboard. In any event, it would always be good to have more contributors in the "team". You can write about anything - your local environment, what's happening today, your life story, your other hobbies, any links you find interesting, photographs of anything and everything. I have even written about railway modelling - only rarely, of course. Just PM John (Coombe Barton) with your message with something like "for Debs" as the subject.
Our very special thanks to John for being such a devoted and helpful "go-between".

Twatt - on Orkney
Cheers,
Mick
I have always heard the surname "twatt" pronounced "twot" i.e. to rhyme with "watt". As a place name, it correponds to English "thwaite".

Read the small print - presumably why they're going cheap!
"Please note that this item has a minor manufacturing fault resulting in potential decoder damage when fitted with a Digital decoder. This can be resolved by affixing electrical tape to the underside of the PCB board, however due to this modification being required we offer this model as DCC Incompatible and we do not offer our usual Digital fitting services on this item. This item will function correctly on an analogue layout without any modification.

The instructions give us part numbers but not names of parts. For example, I would like to know which part is the works plate so that its red arrow on the diagram would tell me where it goes! But, of course, the model is fantastic.
