  1. Called gaugemaster this morning, they have no spare sets. Not exactly surprising considering how difficult it apparently is for retailers to get stuff from Hornby. The set has also officially been discontinued so they can't even order one from Hornby for me.

The best they could do is reserve me an individual NDM from the next batch due in summer!

Hopefully Hornby can sort the issue in the mean time.

  2. Good Morning.

We've been looking at options for signalling my Dad's Scottish region layout Creagan. We've been looking at the Dapol SR signals with a view to modifying them to look more like the Caley signals (UQ versions) found at the real Creagan.

My question is, how feasible would this be? From the limited number of photos online it looks like it might be a go-er. A change of finial, removing/repositioning the tensioning weight and TC diamond would be a start. A Change of arm would probably be needed too, although it may be possible to disguise the SR one. We're not looking for 100% accuracy, but having working signals would be nice and I suspect that modifying a couple of Dapols would be easier than building the MSE kits that are available.

    Thanks

009? Not just the layout, but the locos and rolling stock - all of which look quite distinctive. Assuming whosoever has these items at present is willing to identify him/her self?

Yes 009 :) I was lucky in a way, as I’d left the stock in the house. I distinctly remember walking past the stock boxes as I finished loading the layout and thinking ‘I won’t put that in yet’.

I’m hoping that if somebody does have it they obtained it through innocent means. I’ve been building its replacement over the last 12 months, so I don’t need it back as such. I’d just like to know what happened to it.

Tasmanian Garratt?  Now that's a very distinctive  little model.  I hope you get some results from this.

    Best wishes,

    Ian.

It is indeed a TGR Garratt. I have two, the other one of which was knocked off a table at a show early last year (I’d entered it into a stock building competition) and needs putting back together!

  4. Three years ago today, my car was stolen from outside my house in the hour between loading it up and departing for a show.

I know it’s a long shot, but I’d love it if the layout was still out there. Maybe it found it’s way to a charity shop or something and somebody has it not knowing what it is. It would make me happy knowing somebody was getting some use out of it...

I hate to be the guy that replies but this comment is just pointless isnt it? The manufacturer prices the product, the market decides whether or not it will pay it. Its that simple. If they sit on shelves for long enough they may be reduced at some point in the future. For what its worth I do think these will sell at full price just so long as Bachmann haven't made too many of them.

So the ever spiralling costs are not worthy of discussion? Noted. For the Record I could afford them easily, I just don't want to. I've just remembered why I don't come here very often, apparently money is no object.

The shade of Sherwood Green is quite subjective, I have seen photos of an ex-works Class 17 in sunshine where the "apparent" colour matches the Dapol Class 29 very well, but I suspect it weathered very quickly to a darker, more browny shade which seems typical in most photos. I have a much modified Hornby 29 (original paintwork, though weathered) which can be seen to the right in this photo, with a Dapol model on the left:

Of the 2 I think the Dapol colour is closer; I am planning to repaint the Hornby one with Railmatch Sherwood Green as part of an overhaul so will see how it compares to the Dapol colour.

I’ve painted an LGB G scale 2095 into reverse two tone green and found the railmatch sherwood green to be much closer to the Dapol colour than the Hornby.

Link if anybody would like to see...
