  1. Spent the weekend doing the ballasting. My least favourite job. I used chinchilla sand. I wanted it to look heavily weathered as the ballast in a yard would not get replaced. I then used various colours in my airbrush until I got something I was happy with. I am colour blind so it looks OK to me. I need to add some scatter material and weed effects next. I also obtained some 3d printed fencing which I have started to erect. The tesco building and sign have been painted and the greggs and subway shops have interiors and signs.
  2. The portakabins are now in place with lighting inside each one. The next step will be ballasting.
  3. After a long time away from the hobby and then a dabbled with n gauge a few years ago I have been working away on a new project for a few weeks now. It is built on scale model scenery boards that in total measure 1600mm x 220mm. I have used west Hill wagon works pits inside an extended Gaugemaster Fordhampton engine shed with windows added. The large grey building behind the shed is going to be a tesco. The three mill style buildings are from JS Models (excellent kits). The one on the left is a premier in with lighting and an adventurous couple who have left the curtains open. The two on the right are prime for redevelopment and will have appropriate signage. The bridge is wills kits and the shop fronts are from ModelRailwayScenes. The portacabins are from CBmodels on ebay. The walkways are the waste sprues from the mill buildings with yellow lins from WHWW. The next step is to weather the track and then commence with the ballasting.
  4. Well, after a long period away from the hobby I have decided to get back into it. I had many 00 layouts as a child and dabbled with N gauge about ten years ago. I spend all my holidays on the west coast of Scotland so it had to be a scottish layout that I went with. At the moment, room is a bit of an issue but hopefully a house move soon will sort that issue out. I had a space available that was 5ft x 2ft so I went down the TMD route (i know there are hundreds already but I wanted my own). I used my Christmas bonus from work to aquire 37043 with sound. I already had a Bachmann EZ digotal controller from my n gauge layout so this will do until I can get a NCE Powercab. I have since also aquired a Hornby Sentinel that was too good a price not to. My layout is loosely based on Bo'ness which will enabled a mix of locos that could be visiting for galas etc. I hope to get a class 20 and a 47 soon. I have also had a go at converting my old Hornby 142 to DCC. I know it is not scottish but I am using a bit of Modellers licence.
  5. I contacted Hornby today about the fault on my loco. I was told by a young lady that the issue was due to the fact I am using a Bachmann EZ command controller. She told me I would have to send my loco (a Hornby product) to Bachman forthcoming to alter the cv's. This totally gobsmacked me. She told me that my controller was not compatible with the tts sound system but she didn't understand when I told her I have a tts sound A4 that works perfectly on the controller. I told her I was not happy and I am now sending the loco back to Hornby for a full refund. I think I will be buying a Bachmann sound class 40 instead.
  6. I understand it is needed to alter volume, acceleration and deceleration speeds etc to suit the individual users but you would expectations default sounds to work properly straight out of the box.
  7. This is all very well. Thank you for your advice. I am new to dcc sound. I have been modelling dcc in n gauge for a number of years. I currently use a Bachmann EZ digital controller. I have no ability to change cv's. Buying a brand new loco for £150, you don't expect to have to start modifying things before you use them.
  8. I have just received a tts fitted p2 direct from Hornby. The service was fantastic. Unfortunately when the logo is put into reverse, the sound of the brakes releasing happens but then there is just the sound of the loco idling as it moves off. Also when you play some of the sounds it automatically plays a whistle afterwards.
  9. I got my br blue class 20 this morning. (only ordered saturday afternoon). I have to say that it is an excellent model. I used to have an old poole one and this is a massive step forward. After reading the posts above, i am glad i didn't get the disc version. Removing the four screws to get the body off is bad enough. Running on dcc now. The only thing is that the red lights are seriously bright.

    Class 26

I will try and do a video after work tonight. The amount of movement is amazing. In terms of scale movement the bogies must both move about four foot. I

    Class 26

i was wondering if anyone else has a class 26 with travelling bogies. i have a br blue example and when i change direction of travel on it, the bogie which is then at the leading end of the loco moves forward in its housing by about 3-4 mm. when the loco is off the track, both of the bogies can be moved backwards and forwards by a considerable amount.
  12. if you look at the rails web site they are not actually in stock. they are listed as due in stock next week.
