Unbranded 142094 on a service towards Darlington calls at Eaglescliffe at 13:32 on Monday 19th June 2017. Arriva Rail North had taken over the franchise from Northern Rail in April 2016.
And 141103 keeps 33103 company at the far end of Stanhope station on the Weardale Railway at 15:49 on Saturday 18th August 2012. A real odd couple in County Durham.

Have you noticed that very often in the period photos, especially in Bruce's wonderful shots, what appears to be the signalman's personal transport is parked alongside the box?
Sometimes a bicycle but more typically a car. They are characteristic of the era and they make a connection with the man on duty at the time.
The Austin Allegro parked alongside Balne above is a great example. I wonder what shade of brown it was?
Looking at the photos the registration number is GHB754N, which according to the MOT checker website is/was a gold “Rover” Allegro first registered in November 1974, so less than five years old by the time the photos were taken in April 1979. Plenty of life in the old girl yet! Mind you, it’s no longer on the road.

A scruffy looking 66147 heads West over the River Severn at Over village after passing through Gloucester at 12:09 on 25th July 2009, seven minutes before the Severn Bore came rolling up.
Steel for Wales?
66170 passes South through Manors heading into Newcastle at 10:57 on 16th September 2015.
I have no idea about the train, any help would be most appreciated.

How about 10 miles closer and 10 years after your photo? Literally, not the band.
50042 Triumph at Bodmin Parkway with 1C31, the 10:27 Paddington to Penzance service on 30th July 1984.
Large logo? Black roof? What's not to like? Still my favourite.

Grosmont station and engine shed, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, 25th October 2010.
One of those days where the light just hung in the air.
45212 & 45428 in the station.
45428 & signals.
45428 Grosmont tunnel.
The best part of the day. The tourists had gone home and the engines were coming back on shed. 60007.

31466 worked an 08:00 service from Newcastle to Edinburgh on Saturday 2nd November 1985. I have this down as 1S14.
I took 47703 on the 1O17 10:30 Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street train where 37408 was on the terminated 1T12 08:00 Ex-Oban.
Followed by 87032 on 1M34 13:05 Glasgow Central to London Euston as far as Carlisle Citadel for class 101 53179 back to Newcastle.
There's gaps in the slide numbers so there are others, don't know where they are though.

Interestingly on the extreme RHS of the picture, half way up there looks to be the front half of an LT R49 surface stock car [distinctive double-width windows compared to the earlier R38 stock]. I thought that these were all scrapped at Booth's yard at Rotherham so would 1E27 have taken a more scenic and roundabout route between Sheffield and Leeds on
SundaysSaturdays than normal?Hi Ted,
I've rescanned the slide and this is right up to the edge.
It's the only shot I took so I don't have any other views.

I'm reminded of the scrapyard, somewhere near Sheffield IIRC, which had what looked like the nose and cockpit of a Vulcan or similar clearly visible from the railway. This was in the mid-1980s. Does anyone else remember it?
Hi Pat, sorry for the delay in posting this, it took me ages to find the slide.
My records show this to be taken from 45149 on 1E27, the 10:40 Poole to Newcastle train which I took from Sheffield to Leeds where 47423 took over to York.
This was on Saturday 29th September 1984, so that tallies in with what you thought.
I seem to remember a number of 76's getting scrapped here too.

Shirley "Unknown with a northbound non stop" is D9000, Royal Scots Grey"?
The crest above the single line nameplate and the plate around the footstep on the lower nose where the early headlight was give it away to me.
Loving the photos in this and all the threads!

Two photos from Preston, taken on Wednesday 29th May 1985.
That evening Liverpool would play Juventus at the Heysel Stadium in Belgium.
87006 City of Glasgow stands at the South of the station having brought me in from Carlisle on 1M20, the 11:05 Glasgow Central to London Euston service. I think that's 47586 in the bay platform.
86433 stands at the North of the station, taken from 87034 William Shakespeare on 1S69, the 11:45 London Euston to Glasgow Central service taking me back to Carlisle.
I believe 86433 had been converted from 86033 earlier that month and would be named Wulfruna at Wolverhampton in a couple of days time.
Notice the dark grey band on the nose follows the line along the body. The yellow on the nose would be moved up to below the window by the time it was named.
