Tim,
>"Is there any news on whether Markits have any intention whatsoever of doing the correct wheels yet?"
On my last Markits invoice, dated 1/11/13, there is a list of new wheels as a footnote, and amongst them is "26mm LM Princess".
Might we worth a call to Mark?

Geoff: would you consider the possibility of producing castings for the "Princess" at all?
Which ones?

There are several things you can do to improve clearance between the back of the crosshead and the coupling rod fixing.
1 - Reduce thickness of connecting rod to half thickness for last 5 mm
2 - Reduce thickness of coupling rod to half thickness in the region of the front wheel crankpin fixing.
3 - Recess the front crankpin slightly into the face of the front driver.
4 - Use a half nut or a thin soldered washer to secure coupling rod to front crankpin rather than the usual full thickness Romford washer.

Hi Taz,
Good work on the coach, but I agree with Mallard that it's perhaps easier to join the sides to the ends completely square if you leave fitting the end steps, etc until later.
Anyway, can't hold you up now, so pm me your address and I'll send you the correct pack of whitemetal undergubbins.
We're closed for a holiday next week, so may not get it in the post until we return.

Following the discussion of Davenports, earlier in the thread, you may be interested to know that the stables for the dray horses were the premises just vacated by Grainge and Hodder, the company who do an lot of metal etching for the model trade.

Then taking it to the tip...

Hmm.., that Cocktail Audio X10 looks to have the necessary bells and whistles. I thought about getting a Brennan a year or so ago, but when I delved deep on their website for the storage bit rate I realised that it was only possible to store the number of CD's quoted if you accepted a poor sound quality, and so I backed off. This must be a field in which everything will come to he who waits. They ain't gonna get more expensive, I would think.

Oh dear. The mind boggles at how anyone would end up with this kind of idea
The first house we bought (in the mid seventies) was empty but the name on the deeds was Frank Spencer. We thought it was a coincidence until we found an electrical socket fitted to the bottom riser of the staircase, and the wires were taken from holes that had been punched into the fusebox, with the live to one side of one fuse and the neutral to the other side of another fuse. The earth wasn't connected.
The bathroom ceiling had polystyrene tiles fitted, and when we took them down we found that a hole in the plasterboard ceiling had been 'fixed' with two layers of brown paper.
There's lots of them out there....

it has been hoying it down
The only Hoy I can think of (apart from 'The Old Man of') is the cycling gold medallist, so is this using his first name for its rhyming potential? Clever. So much better sounding than 'Evansing'.

Tony. Is it heavy? Is the Pope a catholic? I like things that are solid and in any case it won't be leaving home......

It's a funny thing, growing a beard when you're 'mature'.
When you're young the middle of the process looks like 'designer stubble'.
When you get past a certain age, it just looks as though Social Services haven't called for a few days.

It may be simpler, Gordon, but it still looks a cracker. Keep at it. But gently.

Markits wheelset prices include the Deluxe threaded crankpins (you may prefer the original which are less expensive) and, as you said, the axle covers, which you may prefer to do without.

Good to hear your news, Gordon. Take it easy when you get home.

My fellow student Wally was a very big lad and must have had a very powerful set of lungs.
We seem to have got back to discussing Sam again.

Could you be more specific, or would you incriminate yourself?

Gordon, Honest John in the Telegraph Motoring section today answers a query about a Beemer battery regularly going flat. He suggests taking out bulbs and isolating several electronic gubbins when leaving the car. Seems to me that rather defeats the object of buying a car with lights and a radio. Bring back the Lada. Well, maybe not.

Dave, I am so 'with you' on your attitude to the media and news. In my case I think it may stem from the years of being forced to sit in silence because 'your father's listening to/watching the news'. As soon as I left home and was able to make my own choices I've been trying to avoid the news. Been doing it for 40 years now.

Mike,
>I was very disappointed to find a final drive gear with no grubscrew.
My own preference would be for grub screw fixing as well, but unfortunately the gear that is used as final drive gear in this gearbox was only an intermediate, idler gear originally and so ran free on its layshaft. I have now procured some grub screws and intend to research the possibility of fitting these for those customers who share our preference.
