  1. Thanks for your comments Phil, as I said, nobody was answering the phone today at any of the major users, I have no reason why you would think I was being untruthful about this. As for garnering information from a public forum, well I know there are a number of professional railway men on here who, if asked could provide me with general guidelines with which I could beat the recalcitrant salesman around the head with the aim being he get of his lazy ass and push the customer for official information, And frankly I'd rather trust rmweb than google. I can see that the request confused you because you failed to add anything positive to the conversation but, out of courtesy, I took the time to reply to your post. I hope it puts your mind at ease. Can I ask the mod team to lock this post please as my questions have been answered by a current rolling stock technician
  2. Appreciate the reply Jo, but no, nothing, one line went to voicemail, all the other operators just blamed coronavirus and hung up. C'est la vie
  3. Hi guys Have been tasked with providing a data logging system which will be fitted in a Class 66 engine compartment, my main concern is the operating temperature in there. I have tried calling all the UK operators but the offices don't seem to be manned right now, so I wondered if anybody here could give me a ballpark figure. My main concern is my connectors, the type I plan to use are good up 90 degrees C and have pretty good anti vibration characteristics. I would be grateful if anybody could provide any info on this environment. Thanks in advance
  4. As do I, keep checking in to see if any interesting B&O stuff is coming out, guess I'll keep checking in
  5. He says he is based in Hamburg though I am sure the stuff ships from Hong Kong or China, the name ukpartsdeal is misleading I feel.
  6. Really like the station scene Ian, super work. Do you ever come North of the Border with the layout? The only one I go to down South is Wigan so be interested to know if you are going there too.
  7. Have found this fascinating, and I had a look at the maps and found the line the ran past Viewforth high school (I stayed in Ravenscraig St at the time and used to walk along Lady Nairn to get to school) little did I know that West of St Clair St was the Rosslyn works and what looks like a really good modelling opportunity http://tinyurl.com/bw69t66 as a spotty youth though I had not yet discovered an interest in trains, sticking mainly to rugby & girls! I should think it was pretty run down in the mid to late 70's, I shouldn't think there was any steam still running either Steve, I must have walked past Sinclairtown station so many times, on my way to Scoonie hobbies, and never realised it existed!
  8. There was an Irish O layout at Falkirk this year called Murphys' Quay which had some card rolling stock, it was far from pristine or precise but somehow suited the feel of the layout

  13. The move to Brize from Lyneham has been a total farce, there is no accommodation for the guys there, a friend of mine is posted down next month and has nowhere to live, like many others he may well be put up in a hotel for several weeks with the cost of either a hire car or MT to pick him up and take him back every night. Completely unjoined up thinking by the MOD again and it is the serving personnel who suffer, again! angell328, I remember those blocks, 4 man rooms back when I was there and bull nights every week
  14. Well that's it, Leuchars is closing and I'll be out of a job soon, it still beggars belief that the current defence secretary has such little grasp of military strategy that he now puts the South of Scotland and North of England and their respective West coasts at greater risk. Leuchars is where it is as a RAF base for a reason, not so the Army top brass can play golf at St Andrews. Unbelievable incompetence
  15. Lyneham was my first proper base in 1980, I was there for 3 years and met my wife (from Calne) whilst there, I hate the place Just waiting on the decision on the closure of the last 2 Scottish bases, we need to keep our fast pointy things too as they are now multi-role, and it will keep me in a job
