  1. The platform canopy is 99% complete now, just four sets of uprights to fit…..and some more weathering to the roof.
  2. ….and finally on this very wet and dreary day….I carried on with the platform canopy until I ran out of Evergreen strip. Hopefully some supplies at work. The first couple of the supports have also been built and some brass rod attached to fit them into the platform.
  3. The VDA van has had a squirt of primer followed by some filler to fill a few defects in the roof. The underframe has been sprayed Matt black too.
  4. Magnetgate episode 3…Stephen’s suggestion to orientate the magnets either side of the rails and parallel too them has worked well. I’ve pushed the stock along and it has worked every time. I’ll put some ballast around them and blend them in to the rest later.
  5. The plasticard block for the VDA van roof has been sanded down to fit the roof profile too. Rainstrip to add prior to painting.
  6. A productive day at the Yorkshire NGS meeting. The Motorail platform canopy has come along in leaps and bounds. It’s had a quick spray of undercoat before the start of adding the glazing.
  7. Had a play test of the 4VEP at work yesterday. Looks good, runs very smoothly and the motor coach weighs a ton. The tap on tap off lights work well too. The 4pin connectors line up and attach OK. The improvements to the model are definitely a positive thing.
  8. A bit of progress with the canopy framework, edges and drainage gully added. The roof is partially glazed is real life and this will be replicated.
  9. No I haven’t spotted that they did one. The tower now nearly in its final location has had a trip to the paint shop. Red Oxide primer followed by a dusting of light grey primer and Matt aluminium. Lamps to be picked out yet.
  10. The poles are along the longest side they are 7x2x2mm.
  11. I’ve also made a start on the platform canopy with six supports for the butterfly roof constructed. This is going to be heavily compressed in size so that I can gain access to the Motorail platform tracks. All this while a bit of soothing music played in the background!
  12. The lighting tower got completed today, bar painting. The tolerance is very tight when being assembled. I couldn’t get the legs into the holes in the base so they got cut off flat. I also had to tweak the platform railings to fit the floodlights as the gap wasn’t big enough. I’m going to mount this on a brass rod so that it can be removed for track cleaning, transportation etc. It’s not in its final place.
  13. Parallel to the track or perpendicular Steven?
  14. After a frustrating couple of hours I’ve ended up removing the magnet and the adjacent one I fitted last night. They seem to be just too powerful and are pulling the couplers down rather than deflecting and opening up the knuckle jaws. I’m going to find my Rix manual uncoupling sticks and see if they work . Plan C is to get some Dapol uncoupling magnets which are much bigger and less powerful.
  15. Well the first magnet is now glued in…..and nearly pulled the bl**dy coupler off! 😂. Looks like I need to sink them deeper or temper their strength. Initially I’m going to put some plasticard over it as it will also make spotting it easier.
  16. I have one of each, I’ll check but would think it’s going to be different to make space for the speaker…..however………the older class 47 bodies are a perfect fit for the new sound fitted chassis and v/v so there’s a good chance the c31 bodies will fit either chassis.
  17. Interestingly the Southern version is missing from the 2024 catalogue only the SWT one is pictured.
  18. Scotrail and Arriva versions landed in York today.
  19. Does anyone recognise where this location is? Looks familiar but I can’t place it. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276266992205?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=OXz-12z8QiO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=CbaWv9n4R2W&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY TIA
  20. My larger magnets arrived yesterday and are a perfect fit between the sleepers….just need to see how many I need to successfully uncouple the trains.
  21. RR and EMT versions got delivered to York yesterday. DC and DCC sound versions.
  22. Very fiddly…..and they maybe quite fragile too…... I’m going to fit a brass rod pin to the bass so that it can be removed for track cleaning etc….otherwise I can see it getting broken quickly. Shame so much of the TPM range is no longer available.
  23. I’m not sure to be honest. I don’t think it’s card, might be very thin timber. The SMS website seems to suggest its card.
