  1. Today we had a trip into York to see the film One Life. It’s about Nicholas Winton and the Kinder transport from Prague which bought 669 mainly Jewish children to safety before WW2 officially started. Great film, very moving…….with Prague station covering for itself and Liverpool Street! The very definitely European loco also arrived at Liverpool Street with the smoke box number 60163……..😂

We went to Prague back in 2018 and saw Nicholas Wintons statue on Prague station.

Prague is also home to the Pizza restaurant with an LGB railway serving every table with drinks from the bar.

  2. I hope everyone has survived the Christmas and New Year Hols……..not much done on Olympia over the holidays but I did a couple of jobs today. The Train Tech city soundscape module is good but very annoying in a quiet layout room so I’ve installed an on/off switch from the DCC bus for it! I do need to cut a larger hole in the backscene board so that I can fix the switch in place.

I also took advantage of an offer at another Yorkshire Modelshop and acquired a Digitrax DT602 wireless throttle. So I could operate this from the outside of the layout I swopped the Loconet ports so that the Wireless one was on the outside……..

……and yes there is a 6B motorcoach body parked on the platform in the background.

I have spent much of the morning testing my new 158. I noticed a few things.
It has a horrid intrusive whine at low speeds.
After leaving the loco sat for a while idling it would not drive off. I loved this by switching the power supply off then on again after a couple of minutes.
When using the brake function there have been a couple of speed surges on release of the brake.

    I am using a prodigy advance 2

Has anyone else noted these issues?

The brake function works with the controller turned off otherwise it will try and accelerate again. I think it also has a latching facility so you may need to release F2 to take the brakes off.

  4. I had a Quick Look at the class 110 at work today. The Motor bogie is the Limby type. The chassis and bogie moulding has been altered to take it. The trailer bogies remain unchanged. Pressed metal tension locks still. The wheels are finer than in in Ringfield days but do have a wide edge to the tyre.

  5. The latest addition to the West London Three Wheeler Gang, Sister Tamworth has taken delivery of her 1965 Reliant 3/25. The stolen windows have now been returned. The Bond Bug now belongs to novice Nun Mary Whimple. Now then……can we burn off the Mets Rover 3500!

The existing Farish Class 37 body is not in need of retooling (despite the clamor from certain areas of Social Media who get all umpty when something has not been retooled for at least six months) but does need one new end for the most common variant, split head code with cut buffer beam shrouds and retaining the centre doors, for some reason this variant was never tooled up, the nearest being the later variant with doors replaced with blank panel and a high intensity headlight, useless for anything pre 1986.

Of course the retooling of the chassis to incorporate all the techno gimmicks will hike up the price for us analog dinosaurs who have no interest in such things and that does annoy me a bit...

Split headcode with doors and no headlight have been done John. I have a Rail blue one….they are from the first batch and I think the second production runs.

  7. A busy week this week. Our team won the Christmas quiz at our local Indian restaurant, The Parvin, last night. This was out of about 25 teams.

I’m at work Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with a trip to Redhill for the Southern controllers Christmas reunion dinner…..there maybe  will be beer…and Harvey’s too.

Does anyone know what happened to the Metcalfe Water tower kit (in 4mm)?

I have been looking for one for ages without success.  I even have a saved search on ebay, but none have come up for months - unbuilt ones that is.

Finally decided to go to their website to order one and its no longer listed.

    Any one any the wiser?

    Steve

It’s not been made for at least 4 years.

I had a Regal 3/25 in blue too. I passed my test in it when I was 16 which was legal because it was technically a motor tricycle. Cost me £50. I survived it and learned a lot about how to drive safely. Rule 1 - never brake and turn the steering wheel at the same time. Rule 2 - watch out when an artic overtakes you on the motorway.

Back to the plot I used that Deluxe Materials Glue n glaze on the 3D printed cars I have.

I had one driving lesson in the Reliant Supervan with my mum. First and last time I ever swore at her it so frustrating to drive. kangerooing around Bevendean Industrial estate one Sunday morning.

I use Krystal Klear for windows, front screen will probably be clear Plasticard.

  10. I can confirm that the older bodies and fuel tanks fit the new chassis. Thanks to davebem for doing the donkey work on this.

A two minute job to swop the lot. So my 47555 becomes sound fitted. It had a good run around the long DCC layout at the Yorkshire area NGS meeting today. Excellent sounds.
