  1. Well the Brighton show is over for another year…..my feet ache as always….. Attendance was up from 2022 which is excellent. The club display stand hasn’t been updated for a few years but one photo on it you might find amusing. This was taken while we were clearing the ground for the 40ft hut that holds most of the layouts…..and yes I’m in there as a 19 year old.
  2. A few more photos from the show. Initial figures appear to show a 15-20% increase in attendance from last year. Thank you to everyone who visited and to our traders, societies and exhibitors.
  3. Some pictures from Saturday at the exhibition. I’ll be taking a fair few more today.
  4. We use a GM Prodigy Express for the shops DCC test track. Every loco is tested before leaving the building. We’ve not had any issues with it and Accurascale sound fitted locos.
  5. …and Kensington Olympia will be making its second outing and errrr it’s most southerly one so far….( first exhibition was in the NRM!)
  6. A largely uneventful journey south 1758 ex York on time but 7L by Doncaster due to being cautioned, track defect. On time into Kings Cross. I did have some refreshment on the train courtesy of M and S……nearly filled my Thunderbirds mug! I couldn’t get through the barriers on the Tube as my Oyster card was too low!…so a slight delay whilst I topped it up. I was still at Victoria by 2015. 2046 to Southwick was on time too.
  7. I’ll be heading south after work on Thursday for the Brighton show. I’m doing some modelling demonstrations over the weekend as well as assisting at the show in general. Come and say hello. Down under member John Nuttall ( St Enodoc ) will also be there….Saturday I think.
  8. After a break from building buildings I’m back on it. Firstly a replacement for the temporary card Department store on Kensington Olympia. Plasticard walls on mountboard carcass. Still some work to finish it, mainly doors and windows on the ground floor plus an interior.
  9. Thursday after work I’m heading south for the Brighton MRC show. I’m doing some modelling demonstrations as well as helping out elsewhere. Hopefully the ECML and Southern will all being playing ball. The weekend will also mean a bit of a catch up with old friends including ‘out of country member’ St Enodoc of this parish. There might be beer involved!
  10. The M and S building now has all its upper floor windows. The clock I’d scanned and printed ended up being too small so I’ll have to edit the picture before reprinting. The wooden shed now has all four walls and some of its doors.
  11. I’ve not added much to this thread recently…not sure why. The sound chip fitting has been tidied up and attached to the chassis with Black Tack. I’ve also trialed several different couplers to bring the coaches closer together. I’ve settled on the Dapol fixed knuckle couplers which were reliable and did the job intended. Other than the DMBS vehicles all the bodies have been glued to their chassis. I will post some photos tomorrow.
  12. A productive day at the Yorkshire area NGS meeting. More paint added to the M and S and the first stage of weathering…just a 3B pencil, my thumb a cotton bud and some moisture…..well a bit of spit! A start also made on one of the missing buildings. A very compressed version of a long wood and corrugated iron shed which can be seen in these views. https://zenfolio.page.link/kSbFE https://zenfolio.page.link/N5AHF https://zenfolio.page.link/cDgFP
  13. M and S also gained an initial coat of paint, more to do and add some texture into the stone work.
  14. It was almost like lockdown today with the postman bringing three parcels for me. Grahame Hedges latest publication, the paint from Scale Model Shop…very quick service and lastly a GF Bulleid coach to convert into the Tunnel Inspection train staff van as seen a page or so back.
  15. Well the Boyes store of dreams in Goodramgate didn’t have the Vallejo Portland stone paint……I brought the brown sand and dark sand colours instead. I’ve also ordered the Portland stone paint via the Interweb.
  16. I’ve just spotted from the photo that I’ve missed off a set of the vertical strips between the second and third floors……Doh!……but easily corrected.
  17. Managed to get the lettering on today. Back at work tomorrow so painting Wednesday. I’ll be taking something with me to demonstrate at the Brighton MRC show in a couple of weeks…..probably some of the pile of NGS kits I haven’t yet made.
  18. All the architectural details have now been added to the department store so a quick squirt with some pale grey primer. I’ll add the signage lettering tomorrow. It’ll be painted Portland stone colour with is available from Vallejo. I’ll probably add some variation into that.
  19. Some good if interrupted progress with the replacement department store. Once the side wall is completed and the entrances done it’ll be undercoat time. The new building is narrower as I’m making the pavement wider.
  20. Great photo, taken from Dyke Road Drive bridge….I’ve a fair few taken from the same location. Difficult to tell what those poles are for. The carriage washer is just the other side of the bridge might just be a power supply for that.
  21. The Mk2a BFK is an easy conversion, use the compartment interior from a Mk1 FK shortened and attach it to the brake area of the BSO. Yellow stripe and numbers from Railtec.
  22. I can just use the heads and eat the bodies…….Nurse!
  23. Well there I was expecting a splurge of c47s and only two more versions than announced many years ago. There’s hope for Spring 2024! Odd no VT RFB
