  1. I got out on Thursday last week, 14th March. I went over the Ruffec to see how Andy was getting on after his knee replacement but he wasn't allowed out to play by the boss. Before I called In I went to Ruffec station to see how the work in the yard was coming on. The three non electrified sidings have been completely renewed and all the old sleepers and rails are stacked up for disposal. This is the north end. The sleepers are in the background at the right. The new footbridge makes a good vantage point. This is the view looking south and for a Brucie bonus I needed one of the Europorte G1000's no 1025. 1029 was the other. This is the view looking north from the footbridge. The long running loop rejoins the main line just before the recently renewed crossovers. The remaining electrified siding joins the loop just out of shot. And here is one of the G1000#s As I drove down into his village to see Andy I missed seeing a class 186 on a northbound car train by a few seconds. I was about 200 yards too far away to get the number as it went across the road. Then after commiserating with the invalid I headed down to Luxe and spent a pleasant afternoon sitting in the afternoon sun reading an Inspector Morse book as there were virtually no trains till at 16.40 27086 came north with the regular tankers and steel train. Next the northbound local went past followed by 22287 running light engine. Not many trains but a pleasant afternoon. Jamie
  2. We watched the rugby and enjoyed the match. We will no doubt get some stick from Pascal in the cafe this morning. I even spent an hour working on my layout yesterday afternoon. Inspired by Brian's article in the MERG journal, I decided to try and get my turntable working. 10 minutes after getting no response from the motor, and having found my meter, I discovered that the 36 way lead from the panel to the shed area, wasn't plugged in. After that was corrected I did eventually get the table rotating but not very reliably. It's a Metalsmith one witbelt drive rounds a large mdf disc. I suspect the the belt is a little slack. I wil have to cut it and rejoin it. Jamie
  3. We will probably watch some Rugby tonight. I wonder what painkiller HH will be using, Penderyn perhaps. Do they make spoons from oak barrels. Jamie
  4. Looking at it, I think that all the three doors have two roads leading into them. The shed is wide enough for 6 platforms for road vehicles. Each bay is fed from two interlaced points that split after leaving the main entrance road. I may have got some of the terminology wrong. Jamie
  5. That's just brought back horrible memories of an anthem warbled by the choir in our chapel. Not an experience I want to repeat. Yes, like getting a rather large carrot cake donatethat's too sweet for Beth to eat. I had to struggle manfully to stop it going off but succeeded in the end. Jamie
  6. Various TBM's have phoned home in the last few days. Emily, which has just started northwards from OOC has now done the first 70m of her 5500 metre journey. Mary Anne, in the Birmingham suburbs is now at 1844m head towards Brum Cecilia is slowly getting to the end in the Chiltern, just 10m this week with 73 to do out of 16060. There are five TBM's running at the moment, Two more getting ready and one about to finish. Jamie

  9. This model of 1142 was built by my late friend Tony Bond and ran on my Green Ayre layout. It was scratchbuilt in 7mm scale. It's now in the care of his daughter. Jamie
  10. We've just watched Death in Paradise. The Inspectors ex tried to woo him by bringing Eccles Cakes. It didn't work. It would have worked with me. Jamie
  11. Beth's 6 Yr OLD clio is mainly digital. The handbook, in French tells us how to change from Kph to mph. After many failed attempts by both of us we took it to a dealer in the UK. They also failed. It appears that the feature is in the handbook but not in the software in the car. We now use a post it note when in the UK for info on sped limits. Offbouncing around on the Briney I believe. Jamie
  12. The lime wagons are an Interesting case as in service they usually carried coal in one direction and lime products in the other, then went to a colliery for their return load. Delaneys ended up owned by ICI but not until the early 50's I think. My main interest is to see if there are any more photos of Beadman wagons. Obviously as the LMS PO wagon books haven't been studied it's difficult to know. From reading one of Turton's articles in the HMRS journal, they are split between Kew for the early ones and the NRM at York. As to architectural style I can recognise the houses and stations built by the Little North Western. One house still exists. My own researches centered on bridge styles and certainly again the Little North Western had a distinctive style using a semi elliptical arch. Jamie
  13. I'm interested in the fleets owned by PW Spencers and Settle Limes in particular. Settle Limes had I herited the fleets of Delaneys, Craven Lime Company and Ribblesdale Lime Co when they amalgamated in the 1930's though the actual ownershimay have remained with the original company. There would also have been the, ocal coal Merchants such as Laycock of Skipton. F there was one volume that covered these areas it would be worth my while buying a copy. I read through the descriptions of the volumes on the publishers website and PO wagons seemed to feature in several volumes. Thanks Jamie
  14. Having seen the mention of a new volume in the series about the acquired wagons of BR. Can anyone point me to whichever volume would cover the quarry owned wagons on the S and C please. Jamie

  18. It's a while since I read Puckoon but my forgettery (©Chrisf) gives the info that there good count had taken up, resident in Ulster and had recreated the family khazi. This and his demise on it took up three pages. As to praks with petrol, my late Uncle Alan as a newly qualified doctor was an RAF MO in Eastern India inn1944 and had to treat several aircrew for burned nether regions. The loos were flushed by a stream that ran under the row and so eone filled an empty Fray Bentos pie tin with petrol and floated it down the stream. Jamie

  21. I've got the terrible job of eating a rather large carrot cake that a friend gave me for doing a little job.. I need some now as I've just finished a railway themed jigsaw and it featured green kettles with copper caps. Jamie
  22. I managed to mend a lamp yesterday in between other tasks. It was one of a pair of bedside lights and the plastic nut that keeps the lampshade on was missing. After much thought I managed to make a plywood washer using a hole saw with two blades in it then secured that on the thread with a cable tie. Not very elegant but it works. Jamie
  23. Unfortunately one of their exports gave birth to a son in the US One of my former Inspectors had been the senior NCO at Pirbright. One afternoon at Elland Road a serving Coldstream ER was arrested and brought into the charge office under the stand. The Desk Sgt had also been in the Coldstreams and told the Inspector. It is alleged that Roy's voice could be heard above the roar of the crowd as he put the unfortunate young man through a drilroutine that reduced hito a quivering wreck in no time. Roy was a great boss. Jamie
  24. They seem to have fixed the problem on the Colne Valley viaduct. This video shows that the front section of Dominique is now across the Grand Union Canal. It really is looking stunning as it stretche's into the distance. Jamie
