Look at the numbers at the bottom of the screen and then you will know you are in the correct place irrespective of whatever language you are looking at now.

Hopefully there is a Z21 Wlanmaus expert on the forum that can help please with an issue I am stuck on.

I have set up my Z21 black and it  works fine on my Ipad and Laptop using JMRI. So far so good. I have a WLANmaus and when I turn that on, the screen only shows in German NEU ? and LOK 1.

I am seeking to get the Language options up to set it to English before doing the wi fi connection

My attempts to reset  by pressing Menu and  shift simultaneously  and a brief press on OK to return to factory reset  turn the unit off , no sign of a Lauguage menu option ;  when I turn it back on it shows the same NEU ? or LOK 1.

I can access all the Menus 1- 8 that are in German is there a solution going into one of those?

My search on line of the  manual and other tips have not led to a solution; any ideas folks?

The usual PWM was 650, the first one, different to 651 to 654, I am building the JE kit in 00

 

651 was there in 80s in yellow, pretty sure I saw 654 there as well but not sure on colours.

I do remember seeing  UKF fertiliser wagons.

 

Are you getting an A27 autocoach for the depot?

 

 

Glad this brings make memories, the PWM is 650  another pic below. A contact has also mentioned about the Autocoach that was moved to GL he thinks around 79 / 80. It was used for storage of Paperwork files etc from the depot offices. 

Hope you can help with a question. What livery was it in and can you recall if it was recently painted or more faded? It would be another fine quirky model to include.

Some progress to share on the Signal Panel Box for Gloucester and the Level crossing Barriers.

The Panel box was built in late 60’s and still exists today. Using lots of reference photos and Google Earth was able to plan the building and slightly compress for available space as in reality is was 130ft or 26cms long in N Gauge. It’s still a long building at 200mm.

Built using a mounting board card in and various types of embossed Plasticard / Windows from Yorks Models. Will need   painting and final details added, Fire escape stairs, Glazing and glazing bars, maybe some Aircon units ( did panel boxes have Aircon in 1970’s ? ).

The crossing barriers are a 3D print with scale model scenery mesh. Again some more details to add and final painting.  It will be modelled in the Permanent down position an eventually some working N Gauge light from DMG when their N Gauge version is finally sorted.

Period cars  and 1013 Western Range complete the WIP scene.

I always thought pictures of the rear of the shed from the level crossing, had atmosphere. There's a good one on the internet of 1200 "Falcon" there, but I don't think you can get that in N?

Hi Jeff, the PWM  shunter is a 3D print by David Hope. he does  2 versions ; i chose the unpowered one as back in the day I allways seemed to see them on Depot ; in a siding never moving. Transfers by Railtec.

The Falcon is a decent  Resin Body from Leicester Railway Modellers on a Farish  Class 50 chassis.  Pic 2 in my previous Post has 1200  poking its head from the rear shed doors .

The Gloucester layout will also be run with stock from the Pre-TOPs era . I have a soft spot for the end of era Hydraulics  that hung on in Green and Maroon. 

Gloucester was extensively remodelled in the mid 70s following the closure of  Eastgate Station  , a new station building, a later footbridge and  the old goods shed / NCL building was demolished. I have decided to model that 76 onwards period. The depot environment thankfully throughout the 70s did not see that much change in its buildings.

Hope you enjoy the older Hydraulics and a few of their visiting Diesel Electric locos. ( just spotted my 47 is TOPs numbered D’oh ! )

Work has continued on the 4 Fiddle yard baseboards. With 14 lines  through lines  working on the joins has been time consuming - The Modeltech units appear robust and look neat when soldered up. 

I have also finished the build of the Iconic GL / 85B depot building - due for demolition in near future. Clad in SE Finecast brick sheet  with windows  from York Model Making.  Now in undercoat and ready for paint weathering and Redutex Roof sheets.

The Grey fuel tanks are from Mudmagnet / Richard  ; very  nice  3D prints .

Thank you Lez, Graham & Simon for the input on Military kit.  Those Saxon’s do look great but unfortunately they have been Out of Stock with NGS and there is presently no comment from shop when / if they will ever be restocked.

Les , the Panzer shop options also look superb - that may be an expensive route though as i need to get another 12  vehicles at least.

Simon  thats a great call to flag Butler Printed models, i discovered them only 2 days ago and I am now in conversation with Peter to get some bespoke high quality resin printed in 1:148. The prices seem very reasonable especially in the cheaper PLA option.

Following Lez’s suggestions I am going for 4 AFV432 Armoured Personnel Carriers,   2 Bedford  MK covered Trucks and  6 Lightweight Land rovers. When I have to hand the models will share some photos.

To break up all the track work  on the layout I have been doing some Kit building for Gloucester.

MOD Ashchurch is just up the road and there were freight flows of Military Vehicles through the Station. I have a small rake of Sonic VEA Vans  ,   5 NGS Warflat kits and when they are back in stock,   I will get a couple of pre 76 Warwell wagons. There are options to add in some VBA Vans and air braked open wagons to make an interesting train. Not sure if these ran in mid to late 70s with an Air fitted Brake Van?

Now Military kit to add on is a challenge. I want to avoid solid metal items. The Oxford Die-cast 110 Defenders look good.

I have 4 FV101 Scimitars . These are more smaller Armoured Personnel Carriers, this version is equipped with a small cannon. It’s a very nice 3D print to 1: 144 near enough for my purposes.

An order has been placed for a  Chieftain Tank again in 3D at 144 scale.

Any others suggestions for Army kit?

Thank you all for comments and support on the new project. Running trains during the  decade 70s  rather than a shorter timeframe will  leads to particular  choices on Buildings and what I can include  / leave out.

Andy S makes a great observation  on Gloucester's unusual Platform workings, my plan is to keep Platform 4  for parcels and the occassional Steam Special. I think it came back into full use for  timetabled passenger trains late 80s so out my timeframe. The plan is to include the basic passenger footbridge - I think it was  built in 1978/9 ; it creates visual interest and brakes up the  very long Platform 1 /2.

A version of Norman Preedy has to be included ; camera ready🙂

Inbewteen track tweaking work I  have  made  some progress on the Gas Storage Tower.

In real world when fully extended its about 140ft High. Up and down the country many towns had these close to the Railways being prominant features . The Horton Road one appears in about 75% of all Photos of the depot and Level Crossing so getting it as right as I can is important.  The kits for N Gauge were way too small for this and the solution came from Kit bashing a HO scale Walters Gas tower.  my model is just under half relief and stands 21 cm tall.

The railings are Plastruct; I need to add some more detailing before painting. Supports for the  bottom walkway  will be 3D printed as i need 12- cutting those  consistently out of Plasticard is way too hard.

Real world Tower was demolished in 2012 .   Probably a future housing development!

Vale of Oxbury went to  a very good new home at the end of 2022.  It may at some point in future re-appear as an exhibition layout in the future but for now its a home based layout.

Great to catch up with so many people at TINGs. The layout on its final appearance  ran  really well and we were grateful for so many positive comments.

It was a real surprise to be asked by Sam from Sonic to run his new Large Prairie on the layout. It ran as beautiful as its looks and will set the bar very high for all future N gauge steam locos. It was a pleasure to spend time chatting to Sam who was really interested in all aspects of the layout.

Our hobby is just as much about the peoples as the trains. I am so grateful for the help over the last 10 years from Nick, Mike & Neil to operate the layout. You are the stars of the show.

Neil, that 3D print box is excellent, you now need to book a scan of yourself with Modelu to go along with the new Box.

Don’t wear a Kilt though.

Well it’s been a long wait to an Exhibition. We are at TINGs Leamington this weekend 10 & 11th September. Stop by to say hello.

I have decided to offer the layout for sale ; time to focus on a new N gauge layout sadly I do not have room for both.

The passengers long wait for the next train will soon be over.!

Leamington  show  saw the layout well received, a few niggles with dry joints in fiddle yard that we finally resolved Sunday morning and  some locos not behaving ; probably should have expecting the issues as the last show was 4 months ago. It was the 20th show since it first appeared in 2013 on the exhibition circuit and to freshen things up we had a banger blue running session which was well received. Big thank again to my trusted operators, Nick Mike and Neil.

First outing for  7th 8th March 2020  at Royal Leamington Spa College for the LWMRS 2 day  show. Great to see Vale of Oxbury in amongst 6 N gauge layouts.

Some new steam stock to run, 3MT and a Sound fitted 2MT and for the first time we will have 2 running sessions for 70’s Banger Blue to make a change to usual transition era. Hopefully you will indulge us! Now which multiple unit is your favourite?

Great to be amongst some classy layouts at Wigan.  Looks of really good conversations with the public and old friends to make the weekend speed by. The layout developed an intermittent short on the right side, suspect the seep motors with the polarity switch to the frogs playing up, first time in 20+ outings that we had such a set back. That caused sound locos to keep re-booting , so a job for later in the year.
