It does spoil the overall look of the chimney, and has this approach changed its shape due to the join?

Now that its been pointed out its hard to unsee. A bit unfortunate since they did the same with the 15xx and it was more of an eye sore for me in-person then I hoped it would. I wonder why it was designed this way since they didn't do the same with many of their other steam locos.

Maybe when the real loco is finished we'll get some limited edition undercoat grey version, perhaps with some of the detail differences attended to.

Knowing Hornby likes to do re-releases more often then other manufactures, I'm going to hold on to my money for now, and wait for what will inevitably be some special release for when 2007 completes construction.

does the running plate look like its warped to you?

On the right side of the cylinder it goes down a tiny bit before going upwards, might just be a error on the sample but we have to wait till we get the final product to judge.

  4. A bit late to complain about, I know, but was there really no way to represent the unique auto lubrication gear on 2007? While I can't find it, I have seen someone make a custom working one for a modified railroad p2 that was realistically durable enough for production. My guess is that it was considered, but scrapped due to tolerances not allowing for fine scale representation.

I do hope those lamps are supplied in a detailing bag rather than being factory fitted

All of the black 5 product photos (dc and dcc) show wired LED lamps fitted, that being said, they seem easy to remove.

  6. Considering that most peoples main plight about the system pre-launch was "what happens when the chip loses power and disconnects on point work or bad track", has anyone had issues with such a thing yet? I would be interested in seeing how a loco with a small wheel base handles going over track that may cut power to the decoder without a stay alive.

As far as I can tell, the Bluetooth control can only talk to one decoder at a time. Therefore consisting, top and tail, double heading are all currently not possible using the app. other than treating the two loco’s as separate items. But there will be issues if both loco’s have motors.

They have already talked about eventually adding a future to the app that will allow you to do this, don't know when they are going to implement this though, as they stated it would be by release of the app but that doesn't seem to be the case.

The review is filmed and should, all going well, go live on Wednesday. Here are three pictures from the review; I was loaned the lighter CR livery model as well as the LMS black one.

So cool to finally see the models outside the white blank screen we have been seeing them in and instead on a proper layout, can't wait to see them in the video!

Well there goes hope for that, I guess the only coaches I can run with my 812 is the old 4 wheeled Hornby Caledonian coaches or old Triang Caledonian coaches. If I get desperate I might just paint the newer Hornby 4 wheeled coaches in a Caledonian livery.

Lucky me was able to get "The Caledonian" train pack with the Caledonian single and coaches, guess I don't have to worry about it anymore.image.png.65105899b3f63790f2900b5c0a58ae2a.png

At this rate its looking more towards a October release, I wouldn't be surprised if they push it back to November

before handling, did you have anything on your hands from previous activity ? Thinners, Nail varnish remover, meths, T-Cut etc.. these can unfix a surface ?

I don't think I've seen a rtr model, where the paint finish has not been fixed to the surface, to the point just casual handling removes the paint finish.

    to me thats not right.

Custom / Home made stuff yes, but rtr should be rtr, and if the surface isnt fixed to the model its not rtr.

I know a lot of models ex-China you can remove lining etc, but usually requires scratching (cocktail sticks etc), or film removing first (Iso prop etc), as a delibrate activity, which can be easy or hard depending on finish..

Ive also seen where repeated handling by greasy fingers can unfix a printed surface over time [Mainline models in particular were good for this].

but just picking it up, as a brand new model seems a bit too extreme, and suggests an issue with the paint type used or being incompatible with surface its attached to…

That said, if it were the case it should be a widespread issue, as presumably most would have been printed in a single batch.

I have never used any chemicals around the model, and from what I can tell I'm not the only one with this issue. A bit of the tender came off around the first couple of days I had the model but since it was only a small amount that came off I didn't mind it, but this whole running board lining peeling off thing is new, iv had the model since its release and since it was so expensive I always was overly carful with the model, most of the time I didn't even lift the model by the running board but by the cab or boiler. My guess is that (considering we are talking about Dapol) they forgot to add any kind of sealing coat the the printing, making it way too easy to mess up.

  12. Yikes, be carful when handling your loco, all of this is from simply running the engine every now and then, its not like I'm throwing the model around or anything, kinda sad to see something like this on a 200 pound model, my Hornby H class has the same lining but doesn't have the same issue. It almost feels like I'm handling a modeling with waterslide transfers on it with no primer applied.

Me too! This and the Hattons coaches are on order. But nothing compared to the costs of building my 6m long layout / shed this month. DIY insulation costs alone are eye watering!!!

If Hattons was smart they would move their Caledonian coaches from batch 3 to batch 2, it would be literal free easy money for them.

According to the just issued Bachmann Collectors Club magazine they have been produced and are in transit.

About time, iv only been waiting since the start of 2021 for mine and I'm getting impatient, I cant imagen how it must feel waiting over 3 years for the model, can't wait!

  15. Minor nitpick but I hope they update the as built 828 to include the right smoke box door handle, correct me if I'm wrong but every photo I have seen of 828 while it was still in its lite blue livery had a normal handle on it and not the circular one that the livery sample model has. I know its just the livery sample and it will change but still.
