David, As a former Weights & Measures Inspector I would describe your lovely model as suitable for a platform weighing machine rather than a weighbridge. The calibrated weighing beams for a weighbridge were much longer than the one you have modelled. The Lavenham Goods photo is of a 'sunken' platform machine probably of up to a couple of tons capacity. Weighbridges were usually 10tons or over. Robin

Hi Chris, I really like the latest shed detailing products especially the GWR coal tubs scanned at Didcot. I have a model of Bristol Barrow Road engine shed and would be interested to know if Modelu could model the Ash disposal 'tubs' that were used at most of the LMS sheds that had the concrete tower ash disposal plants? I have included photos of the two types taken by myself at Carnforth a few years ago. The tall version ran on narrow gauge tracks alongside the ash disposal pits whilst the short version ran along tracks in the pit. The black and white photo is of the ash pits at Barrow Road showing both types in position. I would need a number of each and am prepared to discuss a commission. Robin

Thanks for the tip Smokebox. I did try 068 and I thought 0068 but I tried both again today and the latter worked. All a bit strange as I have given other locos 0XX numbers without any problem.

I have just converted the above model to P4. Before doing so I tested it with DC and it ran very well. The model was described as DCC fitted but the decoder, which I presume is a Hornby produce did not work. Using JMRI Decoder Pro the identity of the decoder showed as #522 - decoder manufacturer not found. An internet search suggests this means the decoder is faulty. I fitted a DCC Concepts Zen Black V12 decoder with 8pin harness and set the address as 68 as required by a customer. The model performed well using Decoder Pro. However when placed on my layout which uses NCE equipment the model would not go. A retest on Decoder Pro and it worked fine again. I have taken the model to a friends layout today which uses NCE equipment and the model does not work. Has anyone any suggestions. It works using JMRI Decoder Pro but does not work using NCE equipment. I have carried out a large number P4 conversions and fitted decoders. I always programme the decoder address using Decoder Pro but this is the first model that will not work on my NCE equipped layout.

Tim, There were a number of 15ton and 20ton weighbridges in the Bristol area when I first started work as a Weights and Measures Inspector in the late 1960s and your 12ft 6in x 8ft 3in weighbridge plate would certainly take a two axle short wheelbase lorry even if it was originally for a horse drawn cart. I tested a lot of weighbridges including Pooley - mostly on railway linked properties - and Avery equipment. Robin

No problems Tim, that's the benefit of converting a RTR model as the balance is already sorted. I have weighted the CSB tender at 100g as recommended by Dave Franks. Robin

My latest conversion of a RTR loco is Bachmann Compound 4P 41157 which I have renumbered 41140 as I have a photo of it on shed. Conversion follows my now standard method using Alan Gibson wheels with Markits 10BA crankpins, reusing the Bachmann motion. The tender has a Dave Franks chassis but this time I had to leave off the water pickup gear in order to add extra pickups on the two rear axles of the tender. I'm pleased with the conversion.
