  1. Just to counteract the general (and usual) negativity on here......

Straight from the box mine has run like a dream for approx 1 hour in each direction, on clean/dirty track over insul and electrofrog pointwork it will crawl at scale walking pace perfectly smoothly, perhaps I am lucky but don't think that it is all bad....

  2. Erm, you missed out the MML up to Bedford as well! Apparently somebody somewhere has the intention of moving West Hampstead into there too.

And the South Eastern side of Victoria, right out to Meopham, plus the Kent lines currently controlled by London Bridge as far as Elmstead Woods! Although unlikely, in the event of a complete failure there would be a lot of stranded people!

  3. That's rather a sweeping statement with which I disagree totally. In the impending transfer of the Cathcart SB area to the West of Scotland Signalling Centre, for example, points currently worked from a ground frame are becoming Signaller-operated, and new turnback facilities are being provided, thus greatly increasing operational flexibility.

Perhaps I should have phrased my original statement better, I would guess the reasoning behind the example raised by yourself is based around an increase in tph along that particular section of line and the need to clear the main lines of reversing trains...... There are plenty of other major projects underway around the network to increase capacity in a similar vein.I was refering to the complete lack of places left on todays network to  reverse a service due to a blocked line ahead, be that due to a failed train or engineering works. Or the fact that if a failure occurs in one of the new mega signalling centres entire regions are left with no trains.

  4. Oops!

Does this mean there'll be no provision for freight or engineering trains to stable and/or round? Strikes me as quite a loss of flexibility.

    Chris

They dont build operational flexibility into anything anymore regrettably. All done with an eye on the accounts and nothing else. Even if that operational flexibility may save fines running into tens of thousands in the future...... There is a complete lack of foresight on the part of Network Rail in many of these situations I think....

  5. Ah, but paint the exhaust red and it could represent a Cherry Bomb (cherry whistler, as we used to call them) added by some young lad with the belief that noise equals speed.

And women!! no matter what the car......

In all seriousness though, some cracking modelling on show in here, truly inspirational stuff!

  6. Oh my, I havent had a chance to look into this thread for about 8 days, I come in now and there is so much new material posted it takes about an hour to digest! :sungum:

My beloved Merlin at an unknown location, apparently, although we all know where it is, a spot of LEGEND:

    http://www.time-caps.../number2027.asp

Ultra pleasant is that, the freshly layed concrete sleepers and new ballast in the foreground make it a real period shot.

    OMG.

WARNING- may lead to STI in some individuals.

That shot did indeed cause some irregular behavior. Not a working practice I have seen recorded before. Looks to be mk1 Cortinas heading for a new life north of the border at the front of the train?

  7. Those buildings are identical to the ones in Lock Stock, I thought it a while ago and then had to watch the film to check my mind wasn't playing games!!

Cracking photos in the Journal though Kier, I am looking forward to seeing further work progress.

  8. One I have just come across that I do not recall having seen before - A photo in Kidderminster Railway Museum's unidentified archive, someone has put the location as being Shankend, I would have said Steele Road during the last winter with the yard pulled up (looks like Steele Roads platform shelter on the up side) but don't have conclusive evidence to contact the museum and advise them as such.....

    http://www.krm.org.uk/mystery.htm

The photo is on the left 6 images down the page - there is no way of linking to it directly I am afraid.

Any thoughts on the location gents?

  9. Nice work guys, this screams London to me already, I look forward to seeing it evolve - once everything is weathered it should be something special!

I admire the pace at which you work as well, I had missed this one until today...

  10. Am I seeing things, or are there maroon coaches mixed in with the Mk1s behind that deltic? Is so, was this a common practice - or is this a heritage railway shot?

    Any ideas, Michael?

Btw, the photo is superb - and well composed. The problem (and, ironically the advantage) of digital cameras is that people tend to just "shoot" rather than looking for a good angle or viewpoint. Agree with MD about the photosharing. An absolute boon to modellers!

    Jeff

Definitely a period photo!! (There is an EE type 3 or 4 lurking to the left of shot in either BFYE or GFYE....

Certainly not uncommon for there to be a mix of liveries even in main line expresses of the era, the Deltic still looks like she is wearing D numbers, so I would put my money on the photo being around 1968-9. IIRC, there was a complete rake of maroon MK1's on the network as late as 1973, being hauled by blue diesels....

  11. I feel I should comment on this, having appreciated your work for some time and not having broken cover.

Your work is top notch, the scenic modules are an interesting way of building up a loft layout without spending hours in the loft, and blend together amazingly well, to create an atmosphere that is, both in colour and texture, signature Waverley Route. You could look at any section of the layout without a train present and it would be immediately identifiable!

Keep up the good work, I look forward to your next update.

  12. Wowza! Presumably going that way round because those troublesome trucks weren't gauged for the WR, much the same as Freightliner flats.

    Beautiful stuff!

Was someone looking for a dubdee on WR metals t'other day?

    http://www.railbrit....e2.php?id=25897

    Sure was!!!!

Nice find - about 6 years earlier than my time frame but a photo is a photo and it means that my WD can come out of the display case for a run on the layout on a 'accurate' operating day :sungum:
