  1. A retooled Class 42 Swindon Warship would be very welcome. And how about a Class 120 DMU?
  2. A conversion of the venerable Corgi Ferrymasters Scammell Handyman into a Trunker2 using parts from a WSI MAN.
  3. Just a quick note for anyone driving to the event, the parking at the Museum is very expensive, the Long Stay at the Railway Station likewise. The best option would be to use the Park and Ride Service from Rawcliffe Bar, at the junction of the A1237 and the A19 to the North of the city. It is a ten-minute ride to the museum, around 20-25 minutes on the return journey (the bus has to negotiate a bit of the city centre), and buses run until after 2200 on both Saturday and Sunday. Hope this helps.
  4. Thanks to John, all the team, the exhibitors and traders for putting on another excellent show, it was well worth the long wait. I visited the show twice over the course of the weekend, this afternoon as things quietened down a bit I got all my shopping done and revisited a lot of layouts that were wedged on Saturday. It seems the best time to visit if you don't have a long journey home. Looking forward to the next one already.
  5. This is good advice. I have just had a similar experience with my previously faultless NCE powercab. The handset was shutting down every 3 or 4 seconds and not progressing to the main display. I tried swapping the 1.65 version chip for the previous 1.3 chip, tried the original two-pin power supply, pulled most of my hair out. Then I read here about shorts on the track. I started to disconnect feeds to the power bus and isolated the fault almost straight away. It is definitely worth some investigation before laying out money on replacement power supply, leads, etc.
  6. Made it to the show this morning then got stuck in one of the slightly sloping car parks. (Rear wheel drive and wide tyres really not a clever choice) A massive thank you to the three kind gentlemen who assisted in getting me back to the road. The main carpark beyond the hall was clear of snow and ice thankfully. The show itself was excellent and good value for money I thought. HLJ is very impressive, the nearest thing to actual trainspotting I have ever seen on a layout and very atmospheric. There were some excellent layouts on show around the hall and a decent number of traders, especially for the model engineers. Highly recommended if you can make it tomorrow.
  7. Its been a while since I've posted here so I thought I would put a picture up with the backscene in place. Still a long way to go but pleased with progress so far.
  8. Modelling Longrock shed in the diesel era.

  9. Enjoyed visiting the show today, my first in almost two years. The venue is excellent, spacious with wide aisles, and lots of free parking on site. We spent a long time watching the goings on at Grantham and had a good look at all the layouts. Favourites for me were diesel themed Reevy Rd West and Wardwood. Trade support was good and varied too. Can't vouch for the catering because we didn't find time to sample the delights unfortunately. Highly recommended if you can get there tomorrow!
  10. Having read through the entire thread I think this might be the first call for the Class 103 Park Royal DMU. Please!
  11. Thanks for the suggestions Ian and Ron. Before resetting the system I decided to have another go which gave the same results, Macros 3 to 9 all empty. I figured I must be inputting them incorrectly so tried again but reviewed each one after inputting. So far the system is remembering them all. I think it is the last step in the process which I possibly wasn't completing correctly, "if you want to enter less than 8 accessories, leave the accessory # blank (just press ENTER)". I think I was just pressing PROG/ESC to move onto the next macro. So, hopefully, thats it sorted but I will report back if I encounter the same issue again.
  12. After being switched off for a few months my powercab has forgotten all it's macro settings apart from No.1 I have re-programmed all the required Macros ( I only need nine in total), switched off the system then switched back on and it has only remembered No.1 and No.2 Selecting any of the other seven macros brings up the 'macro is empty' message. I've never had this problem before so just wondering if the system has gone faulty? Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks.
  13. If anyone has the 1976 Locoshed book you can find the picture which inspired me to eventually build a model of Longrock shed. Here is my 00 scale rendition of that photo.......
  14. Just jumping back a bit, the gear knob on the Chopper is absolutely correct for a Mk1, it was the Mk2 onwards that got the T-bar shifter.
  15. An excellent show. Many thanks to all involved in putting it on.
  16. A week's holiday and self isolation has combined to allow some good progress on my 00 gauge model of Longrock shed in the diesel era. There is still a very long way to go but things are starting to take shape now and the whole thing is hopefully becoming recognisable. There is no ground cover yet, no ash, ballast, weeds, oily puddles etc, and the shed rooves need a lot of work yet. Now that I have got going I will post any progress shots as I progress. Happy modelling and stay safe!
  17. Research for my Penzance shed layout indicated that the rooms beneath the coaling stage/water tower were used as a crew mess room and a general store for tools and equipment. There was a stove, tables and chairs, and a sink in the messroom. Nobody recalled toilet facilities but I would assume there would be? Once disused the rooms quickly deteriorated into dripping smelly holes not fit for habitation. Occasionally local spotters would shelter from the rain but never for very long..........
  18. My bsyp version runs almost silently, at least at low speed. I don't have space yet to try any faster.
  19. Soldered droppers, laid track into 3 sidings, tested everything with a loco, all good.....4 days later, realise I forgot to fit the under-track uncoupler magnets! Oh gosh!

Drill (carefully) from underneath. A depth collar on the drill and eye protection might be a good idea.

Luckily I had only used copydex and hadn't started ballasting so the track came up ok without damage. All fitted back down now.

  22. Copydex is great for tracklaying.........until you shake the bottle with the lid off.

At least it peels off easily... and you can roll it up into pretend bogies (of the nose variety)

I find that UHU makes better pretend bogys/bogies/whatever...

On a more serious note, I found the tubes of Copydex worth the extra expense. They avoid the problem of the brushes not reaching the bottom of the tub and the increasing amount of air within the tub as the level lowers making the contents go manky.

  24. There were two sets of Hornby NSE louvres on Ebay last week, I think it would be easier to repaint them than try to use Lima ones.
  25. Falcon sounded like a western class 52 but with electric rather than hydraulic transmission. I think there are sounds available commercially?
