I agree that you definitely need to go more in the direction of green to represent deeper sea water. The shoreline is rocky so there's not much white sand around Mallaig itself.

There is nothing amusing about WW2 bombs being found. It‘s something that happens almost monthly here in this part of Germany.
There's a photo on page 11 of "British Railway Goods Wagons In Colour (Robert Hendry) of vans being stored on the closed Shipton line, the 'siding on the right. The photo, taken in 1971, shows BR standard vans stretching into the distance on the single line branch.
One way of stopping bogie vehicles from rocking is to add two stabilising pins (in this case screws) to one of the bogies. This allows the bogie to rotate, to compensate for track undulations, but stops the body from wobbling side-to-side. See the last photo in this post:
