  1. Finescale P4/S4 exhibition model railway layout "CHISLEDON" for sale at auction next week. Not really sure where the best place to post this was on RMweb but thought here might be most the likely for this to be seen by those who might be interested, or know someone who might be! For sale here (Lot 305): https://auctions.gcrauctions.com/catalogue/lot/d4da10c5ec26c2ba0e5f3169f7cbe101/61ad83272971a65b1b45f1d4d620c5f8/auction-of-general-railwayana-a-wide-selection-someth-lot-305/ Auctioneers description: "P4/S4 exhibition model railway layout "CHISLEDON" built by Dave Barrett, MSWJR, two 4' boards modelled to an exceptionally high standard being a medal winning layout in its exhibition time in the early 2000s, complete with rolling stock, modelled signal cable & point runs, appears on the P4 Club website, Pendon standard, dust free." I've no personal interest in this; just thought it looked like it might be something that would appeal to someone.
  2. I have an interest in these vans although pictures of them are pretty scarce! Have you a source for the information about what they carried, as I’m pretty sure I’ve never read that before?
  3. It’s only £3 if you are a visitor to the Science Centre. Otherwise it’s £8.50 for up to 9 hours. Full details for others here: https://www.glasgowsciencecentre.org/visit/parking Although not sure I should increase awareness of it; I might end up not being able to get a space!
  4. The Glasgow and South Western Association should be worth joining, if you are not already a member. http://www.gswra.org
  5. Impressive work and notes. The braking stuff goes over my head though! Keep up the good work!
  6. Thanks for resuming on here the links to the updates. Keep up the good work.
  7. A very long time ago I seem to recall using cork tile adhesive to stick cork to baseboards. Memory says it was a sort of rubbery adhesive. If so that perhaps helps with sound deadening? I see that such adhesives are still available.
  8. Is there an “if” missing near the start of the penultimate sentence? Should it start “His response was that if he’d had …..”?
  9. Seems to be £179.95 for all versions today, except weathered. So maybe wasn’t much of a bargain yesterday?
  10. Doesn't seem to be a topic for this? Details here: https://www.renfrewshiremrc.co.uk/paisleyshow.html 35 layouts listed, including Blair Atholl in OO. "The" Blair Atholl layout, presumably? I saw somewhere that it was being extensively refurbished. That alone an attraction. 12 traders.
  11. Where's the exclamation mark response for the last bit!
  12. Aren't Gibson OO and EM wheels the same though, just with alternative axle lengths? If so I would hope that a conversion to EM wouldn't need new wheels, just longer axles. Perhaps complicated by the wheel/axle interface - I think some wheels might now come on stub axles? Apologies if any of this wrong!
  13. Thanks for another informative post. Keep up the good work!
  14. I think you need to look for a hollow punch. Seem to be available in sets pretty cheaply but probably in mm.
  15. https://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/historic-test-train-gets-new-lease-of-life-in-fife?fbclid=IwAR07qo5yjA-xNejJXwrNPs5Oj0Mro238RUGHMCohZfpXqrd0RVtAxnpQHEQ Now in Fife, judging by online pictures.
  16. A list of EM gauge GWR locos posted on previous page. Hopefully this link is directly to the specific post:
  17. If you know a member of the EM Gauge Society and they are attending the ExpoEM Summer 2023 at Wakefield this coming weekend perhaps they could take the EM gauge items you have and offer them for sale via the members sale facility? They might potentially find appreciative buyers there. If not then at least you have tried, and perhaps saved your time changing wheelsets etc. Just a thought! Link to the relevant thread on here:
  18. This, hopefully, might be a direct link to it: https://footplate.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=512_529&products_id=8123 Not exactly promoting it on their website!
  19. Responses to queries along these lines on Heljan’s Facebook posting about this, from Heljan themselves, say it is all new tooling.
  20. Sorry, yes missed out the important tender word! I appreciate that there is the water scoop and brake gear behind the frames but it all looks rather “solid”, appreciating it is in shadow. I wondered if it was a sort of continuation of the electrical connection with the locomotive, as that is at that sort of underfloor level. Anyway, just idle thoughts!
  21. In the "side on" shot there looks to be an awful lot going on behind the arched holes between the axleboxes. Should there be more daylight there?
  22. Your Thirsk link just seems to take you back to the top of this page!? (Tried on both ipad and PC). There's a topic in the exhibitions section: And from that there is this link: http://www.expo-thirsk.co.uk/blog/ Hope this helps a few attend!
  23. The notches in the buffer beams to accommodate the coupling seems unfortunate, but look to be because the bottom of the buffer beam is lower than normal most engines and stock. @That Model Railway Guy post of 17th May suggests the buffer beams are part of a larger diecast part for the footplate etc.
