  1. There is/was a book available of aerial photos of Edinburgh from about the 1930s. "Old Edinburgh views from above" John A Jones, Stenlake Publishing, 2002. Unfortunately only a very small bit of Haymarket in one corner of one picture. A couple of the same pictures at: http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/0_maps/0_maps_thumbnails.htm This also references another book of aerial pictures, which I've not seen: "Edinburgh From the Air: 70 Years of Aerial Photography". I think I've also seen some of these online but can't recall where. I did also enquire of City of Edinburgh Council as to where the original negatives where (they get mentioned in the book I have) but without a lot of joy. Couple of books that might help: "Rail Centres: Edinburgh", A J Mullay. Seems yo have pictures of the vents, or holes in the roof in later years! Also: "BR Steam Motive Power Depots, ScR" Paul Bolger, and, more generally, "An Illustrated History of Edinburgh's Railways" WAC Smith and Paul Anderson. There is a website for aerial photographs, but I don't seem to have it bookmarked. Hope some of this helps! Cheers, 26power
  2. Great to see this layout still on the go and around the Scottish exhibition circuit. I was advised that the terminus station (Glendevon) was rebuilt a while back (bit like those stories of a tool that's had x new handles and y new bodies but it is still the original from granddad!) Some of the modelling is pretty ancient - I had a hand in some bits and that was more than 30 years ago! I seem to remember the brewery yard cobbles were lentils (or similar) stuck down one at a time! Nice J88 and the similar thread about using an Electrotren loco is great! Cheers, 26power
  3. Hopefully this works - if you go to this link you can see the old mapping overlayed on the current mapping: http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=14&lat=56.29338&lon=-3.38321&layers=0000000B00FFFFFFFFFFTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF There's a slider at the top to vary the transparency of the overlay. Meant to try this for ages for the M90, but it'll be with a fresh eye i look at this route next time I drive it! Cheers, 26power
  4. We had some from this collection recently, but I don't think we had this angle on Hawick shed? 3 or 4 engines moving around! http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/8118957584/in/photostream/ From the same collection B1 61244 leaving Riccarton Jubction: http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/8118954058/in/photostream/ For reference the source of these is the Armstrong Trust Collection: http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/sets/72157631842684795/with/8118954058/ Cheers, 26power
  5. Probably some or all been up before, but here's dwbphotos complete Waverley selection. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dwbphotos/collections/72157625401890857/ e.g. D5050 at St Boswells, in colour: http://www.flickr.co...157628856372619 Cheers, 26power
  6. Won't be hearing those on 19th May; just the Hearts song! Cheers, 26power
  7. There was a Model Railways magazine a loooong time ago which, if i remember correctly, featured a number of scratch built P Way vehicles. Think there was one on the cover, so would make it a relatively easy issue to find, if you know anyone/anywhere with back numbers. I would guess early 70s. Cheers, 26power

  9. Bit more relevant is this one: http://ironroad.smugmug.com/Trains/Steaming-Back-2/16907755_FqRK5n#1493225048_p9XfCFj Cheers, 26power.
  10. If I remember correctly, one is hinged at the bottom, so folds down inside. Also think to do that there is a frame within the standard aperture size. No doubt there'll be detail pictures somewhere to confirm, or otherwise. Regards, 26power

    Class 26

26 015 seems to be available now on Rails site: http://railsofsheffield.com/class-26-015-br-blue-with-full-yellow-ends-nd145a-JJJA18027.aspx What caught my eye in their pictures were the "rivets" around the cant rail grills - not something that's there on the real thing. Other thing is the apparent beading around bodyside windows (copying Heljan, rather than the real thing?). However, at a quick glance certainly looks like a 26! Might even have this 4mm modeller investing! Mercig looks to have added very nicely to the model in his post above, although the black around the front windows does look a bit "panda eyes" - compare with the real thing: http://www.martinbray-ukloco.com/images/class26-27/26015-eastfielddepot-240592.jpg Cheers, 26power
  12. Quality traction for the testing. See http://6lda.wordpress.com/ to help the real thing get restored! Cheers, 26power
  13. Hello Max. Good progress being made! If, as in the last picture, the tower is going to be tight to the backscene, couldn't the back of the hopper tower just be open to the operator? Thus allow almost direct "get your hand in above the wagon" type access? Either to load loose coal or dummy loads. Just a thought or two. Cheers, 26power
  14. Any Spurs sason ticket holders on here, or anyone know one? If so please PM me. Thanks.

  15. Any UK outings planned? Looks like it would be even more impressive in the flesh, so to speak! Cheers, 26power
  16. Would agree with suggested location, but can't find an on-line image to cross check. Would suggest from or close to overbridge leading to Lochside Hotel. (NS6014). Presumably lamp on post relates to buffer stop alongside, but in what way? Cheers, 26power
  17. 28dayslater visits Riccarton Junction: http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=61697 Cheers, 26power
  18. Same guy's pictures, same day, same shed - D5302 in blue. The green 20 beyond with tablet recess doesn't look to have any yellow though! Cheers, 26power
  19. Thanks for the photo info Max - it was the pastoral Alloa - Kincardine that foxed me. re captions, I was assuming text could be inserted under each picture when the message was being drafted, but as I haven't done that I'm not sure! A possible alternative is to use the free programme below to put a caption, copyright info etc. on your picture. It does quite a few other things as well. Not bad for nowt! No connection, just found it did what I wanted and think it deserves to be better known. http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm Cheers, 26power
  20. Maybes they would be of use for a book or two??? Cheers! 26power
  21. Think there was an article/track plan in Rail Express Modeller once? Cheers, 26power
  22. Glimpsed the loader on theDEMU stand at Kyle's Ayrshire exhibition - didn't realise until now that there was a layout to go along with it! Not sure how I've missed this thread before now, but will now be a watched one. Had a quick look at Knockshinnoch last year, or rather the site of. A pretty thourough removal job, unfortunately. Think I read somewhere about, or saw at an exhibition, the use of loose material for coal. Something about it being a material that didn't create a dusty mess. Offhand can't think what it was they were using though! If your loose coal loading doesn't work then putting loads in from the back might work, but here's something to avoid - I was doing some loads for 16T minerals using Parkside loads and thought making them removal with a magnet would be a good idea, so I araldited big penny washers to the underside of the plastic load. However, when I use a magnet to remove them it wants to go to one side of the load, rather than stay central. Obvious when you think about it! Last thought - if you post anymore prototype pictures could you caption where they are? Some of the ones you have posted are familiar, but others weren't even although I assume they are all in Scotland? Cheers, 26power
  23. So is this one preserved at Bo'ness the type Hornby have modelled? http://www.srpsmuseum.org.uk/10149.htm Number 1103249? Thought someone might have posted pictures of the actual model by now? Cheers, 26power
  24. If what made here correct: http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/basic.html then 27/05/73 a Sunday, 29/05 a Tuesday, 13/08 a Monday and 14/08 obviously a Tuesday. Cheers, 26power
  25. Langholm. A 44 page A5 size booklet entitled "Langholm Heritage Trail" has recently been published. Contains 4 pages on the railway - probably not much new to anyone seriously interested, but a couple of decent general pictures. This booklet seems to be free to pick up - the sort of thing I would have thought you would need to pay about £5 for these days. There also seems to be a video that features the railway, see: http://www.annandaleobserver.co.uk/story.php?pheader=1&id=2473 http://www.eladvertiser.co.uk/news/new-heritage-trail-for-the-muckle-toon-1.816298?referrerPath=home Think the latter shows what one of our posters looks like? And a wee bit of info by same: http://www.langholm-online.co.uk/pages/content.asp?PageID=213 A few pictures of the railway at Langholm on: http://www.langholmarchive.com/index.php If anyone desperate for a copy of the booklet I could probably pick up a copy and post onwards. Cheers, 26power
