  1. As stated by many others Hornby decoders are no good for the Heljan 47's due to the high current draw that the motors need. They like to go up in smoke in no time. Bachmann 3 function decoders are what I have used in them with absolutely no problems but its all down to preference and budgets.
  2. Pro weathered?? Another example of someone ruining a fairly sought after model. I'd buy it if i was confident enough that i could remove the 'pro' job without ruining the model. http://tinyurl.com/gr6en9k
  3. A truly remarkable achievement by all who are involved. I can see Starcross and Dawlish Warren from my window across the estuary and at night you can see the tower lights where the work is happening. I will be using the line again to go and visit the girlfriend on a regular basis. Well done to all and a big thanks to 'Captain Kernow' for supplying us all with regular pictures, updates and all of the other things he has taken time to supply us with.
  4. According to a well known Exeter driver on another forum there is a FGW HST (5c95) moving west in the early hours of friday morning.
  5. Has this guy been on the glue? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EWS-Class-47-N-Gauge-No-66167-/331157250231?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4d1a82a0b7
  6. How on earth is this 67 worth this much?? Limited edition i know but did they only make 1? I expect you could get 3 resprayed into that livery and still have change from that!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-OO-R3216-DIAMOND-JUBILEE-CLASS-67-DB-SCHENKER-/201046679665?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item2ecf50e071
  7. Don't forget that those sections are strengthened with steel bars/rods inside. Possibly tougher to break than the original wall as that is likely to just be stone cemented together just like a traditional wall. Always open to being corrected though of course.
  8. His other items must be limited edition as well then judging by some prices! Anyone want a 'Liner' 57....... Edit: Going by the feedback it seems its yet another person who snaps up the limited editions and then sells them on with an even bigger mark up!
  9. Is there a possibility we can have an 'I'm absolutely stunned' button?
  10. I believe that they replace some of the material daily that gets 'knocked off' by the waves at high tide. The containers have certainly taken a battering since they have been in situ so keeping them brimmed/topped with stone etc will ensure that they continue to give some protection against the waves.

  13. This layout is awesome. I absolutely love it, the attention to detail is brilliant. I hope one day o be able to build something to the same quality standards as this. A shame it can't be joined with 'Waverly West'
  14. :icon_wow::icon_e_surprised: I have about 15 of those Lego boards still from my younger days. Might have to Ebay them i think.........
  15. Well it was the girlfriends birthday last month and i was looking at vouchers for her. Looked on Ebay and every single voucher had bids. The problem was that i wanted a ??50 voucher. The one i wanted had been bid upto ??63:icon_frustrated:!!! Do people on Ebay not think or are they just plain thick??:icon_what:
  16. Dave, if you ever went to sell this layout i think you would start a massive brawl! People would be falling over themselves trying to get at it!:icon_lol:
  17. Taken from the DCC Supplies website for those who couldn't be bothered reading.. The popular Electrak 2 now has a fixed version, the Electrak 3. This DCC Compatible track cleaner works just like the popular DC only high frequency cleaners, but is safe to use with DCC equipped locomotives. We have tested this device with popular decoders, (including sound) without any problems! The Electrak works by generating a high voltage, high frequency signal that is current limited to about 2 mA. Due to the current limit, almost anything that is attached to the rails (e.g. a motor in DC or a decoder in DCC) will act as a short circuit to the Electrak. Thus, loads on the rails normally short the generated signal. Current flows from the generator, out one wheel set, across the rail load, into the other wheel set, and back to the generator. Due to the low impedances involved, there is very little voltage in this loop (hence its safety and compatibility with DC and DCC). When the Electrak encounters a spot in the track that does not provide a good connection to the Electrak wheels (i.e. a dirty spot), the full 216 volts of the generator appears across this high impedance. This high voltage acts to break up the contamination, and thus clean the track. The Electrak is particularly good at destroying oxide films. Any exposed metal will form a surface oxide coat. Some of these metal oxides are insulators (such as brass) while some oxides do have conductive properties (such as ???nickel silver??? rails). Most metal oxides, however, do not conduct as well as the base metal. This is why abrasive pads work well. The abrasive action destroys the oxide coating allowing metal contact to the engine wheels. The dielectric withstanding voltage of thin oxide layers is on the order of 10-50 volts depending on the oxide and the oxide thickness. The Electrak has sufficient voltage to ???punch through??? the oxide (called defritting), destroying the oxide and exposing the base metal. The ability of the Electrak to remove track oxides is particularly handy if you have an outside layout or one exposed to high humidity.
  18. A bit of luck?? Rooney was wrongly flagged offside when Ashley Cole was clearly playing him onside. Terry clearly dragged Valencia to the floor in the box= penalty without a doubt. 2 mistakes by the same linesman (obviously a Chelsea fan) who clearly saw both. And the freekick was never a freekick and even still, Drogba was offside/interfering with play. A bit of luck?? :icon_grumpy::icon_frustrated:
  19. Cannot believe that i haven't seen this thread before now! Just excellent. I prefer the more modern diesel scene myself. Very nice pictures.
  20. Love this layout. Well i love most Scottish themed layouts. Keep up the good work and posting pictures! B)
