  1. I bought a load of the WRRC's C.C. Green prints from ebay, thinking that Mr. Green had the original prints and/or negatives - when a hell of a lot turned out to have been copied from books, very badly in some cases, not helped by the WRRCs prints being digital rather than darkroom. (digitising the negatives, if indeed there were negatives, or prints introduces yet more quality loss) I'm now a lot more wary of what I buy from WRRC prints!

"I can assure Quarryscapes in Post 2625 that the Welsh Railways Research Circle (WRRC) do not own any of the photographs or negatives of the C.C. Green Collection.  Furthermore the WRRC do not sell items on EBay.  If Quarryscapes wishes to purchase items from the Welsh Railways Research Circle then he should visit the website at www.wrrc.org.uk

It is quite wrong of Quarryscapes to imply that the Welsh Railways Research Circle is a less than trustworthy railway research group.  If adequate pre-purchase research had been carried out by Quarryscapes he would have found what I have already stated – no C.C. Green photographs or negatives owned by WRRC & no sales via EBay undertaken.

The Welsh Railways Research Circle has been in existence for nearly forty years and to cast doubt on the integrity of this well respected research group, dedicated to collecting and disseminating information about all aspects of the Welsh railways scene, is totally unwarranted.  Rather than make these erroneous comments and casting a slur upon the hard work of many over the years, an acknowledgement of an error or an apology would not go amiss.

  2. Hi,

The HMRS have a drawing of a 4-4-0 with 6ft driving wheels, which seems to be the right one although the drawing is dated 1904, so it may be the later one.  I will check my books but they are not always very helpful on details.

    Chris

Are you thinking of the Cambrian Large Belpaire Passenger Class, Nos. 94-98 built Stephenson 1904 here? I'm told that the HMRS has a drawing of that loco.

    Cheers

  3. I find the responsiveness of DapolDave to the comments made on here very encouraging. Is Dapol unique in this approach? It's certainly very laudable.

I have no comments on the loco visually but I do wonder if consideration has been given to the ease of conversion to P4. This could be a deal-breaker for me. I'm normally a steam-era modeller but could easily be tempted by what promises to be an excellent model of a WR hydraulic - if it does bring with it too much conversion effort.

    Cheers

  4. They had left the area before I arrived but the Trethomas trip would have been work to which they would be suited although I suspect they would not have been favoured for Machen ballast trains.

Thanks SM and Craig - I think it had slipped my mind how little traffic was on the B&M by the time the 14s were introduced. I briefly (and erroneously) imagined them working from Bassaleg.

  5. Thanks for those shed allocations Kenton. I??™m rather surprised that there was never one allocated to 86B (Newport EJ). I remember them on the Golden Mile working Western Valley trains.

Pity that there won??™t be a drop-in conversion kit from Ultrascale - I rather fancy one in P4. Let??™s hope the new guys in charge of Alan Gibson come up trumps!
