Has anyone worked out what Hornby's "design clever" might mean?

Easy to offer alternatives without the need for major tool changes.
ie class 37 front as individual fitting allowing runs with no headcodes, runs with split headcodes etc.
The sort of thing that used to be expected of any decent design office. :-)
