  1. Agreed. It's the ones ove had for 35 weeks that are the problem! I generally find I'm doing well if I can use more than half the tinlet these days. Edit: just opened my only jar and that had set as well!
  2. I like the idea of them being rigid as not easy to get loose chains to stay taut.
  3. Yes I've found them I think: according to appendix 4 of British Railways Wagons, the first half million, Swindon made a batch of 200 in 1950 and Dapols number fits with that. I will stick with the Slaters one but I wouldn't mind some of those chains from Dapol.
  4. I know Heljan diesel green is very close to the Precision version but I dont know if that is just lucky or deliberate.
  5. Looks like they are more flush so you could hack away the centre support then drop in overlays of scored styrene?
  6. I only read yesterday he started off in a band with Bill Wyman. BBC obituary had some interesting snippets.
  7. Worth repeating Ben's comments around the 86/4 photo.
  8. That Dodge has come up very well. The ones I've seen on their stand aren't anything like as crisp as that so I'd dismissed them but that's making me rethink.
  9. I got a terse e mail from someone once saying "instead of wasting each others time, why dont you just tell me the minimum you will accept". Seemed a bit odd until i discovered they had already had their max three offers auto-rejected! I think that was more satisfying than actually selling it.
  10. True! Talking of which, have PayPal hiked their fees? A couple of sales recently have had more deducted than I was expecting and usually my quick mental estimate is pretty close.
  11. I've been mulling over a couple draped over sheet rails recently so will try these. I haven't got my head round how to fold round the ends yet. Is there a prescribed technique people are happy with (for flat sheets, not just pitched?
  12. My post wasnt very well worded I had two poeple making offers, I accepted one and the other then said they would have gone higher. Still, cant be greedy.
  13. ...being e mailed after you've accepted an offer by someone saying they were about to pay full price. Grrrr.
  14. Also Stenson models do an etch of the instanter links. I often find Railtec do something near enough you can adapt. I'm after stuff for a rake of BR china clay wagons and realised yesterday their medfit are the same weight and tare, for example.
  15. Just come across someone doing a different Mersey unit in 00 using 3d printed parts. If you look closely you can see the surface finish. I might be over simplifying things but I reckon it will be obvious when 3D becomes good enough, as Heljan wont be able to charge 600 quid for a loco anymore!
  16. They obviously existed though otherwise they wouldn't have invented the clay hood!
  17. There are hundreds of threads on paint stripping on here so worth a search - IPA should remove the enamel fairly easily. Railtec are another transfer supplier
  18. Do you have a photo of any Express Dairy ones in that era or later at all? I didnt know these lasted that late and would be interested to see (and ideally identify the wagon diagram) Ta!
  19. This is already covered in the main class 33 thread, page 19
  20. Langley do actually do 2 swimming ducks in their set of 6 as well although they look more like the plastic variety than real ones.
  21. Doesn't this all make the side window area bulge out even more now? I'm feeling better about my plan to hack up a Heljan 47 and see if i can correct it now!
  22. Buy some replacements from Gaugemaster? Mine is boxed - not sure if I want to check now or not!
  23. To clarify my comments, it was the surface finish I was referring to. I followed a few threads a while back and at that time you couldn't get an acceptable finish in 00 let alone 0. As I say it may have improved but aside from whether the designs are actually accurate - which you can at least gauge from the CADs - that's what I'd be concerned about
  24. No but unless things have moved on considerably (which is of course perfectly possible given how technology advances), 3D printing quality could be poor in O gauge.
