  1. Midland Freemo 19 update.

The new venue we are hoping to use will not be completed until mid September.

As I’ve never known a build project finish on time yet, I think the risk is far too great to rely on this venue to be ready for us.

Therefore we are going to hold the meeting back at Armitage again.

The hall has been booked from Saturday 12th October at 8 am. until 6pm Sunday 13th

If anyone is interested in bringing a module, please could you email me chrisgilbo@me.com

The group’s own modules now fill at least 50% of the hall so space is limited, it’s a case of first come first serve, I’m afraid.

    More details will follow.

  2. Morning,

Just like to share my latest project with you.

After 25 years modelling in HO I’ve taken an interest in the O gauge BR(w) steam that seems to be available in RTR form.

I’ve always liked STUART DAVIES‘S Sheepcroft EM gauge layout and was wondering if it’s possible to build it in O.

    This is yesterday’s work

Two heavy duty baseboards built and the track placed down, just to get the feel.

The idea of the layout is it’s a small twig of a line running from Stourbridge Junction towards Clent and Belbrought

This part will be the low level goods yard and there may possibly be a high level single line passenger station crossing at 90 degrees.

All to be set in the late 50’s to late 60’s

  3. After messing around with a number of other projects that never seemed to mark, I’ve decided to return to my layout in the shed. I’m currently revamping the open fiddle yard/ staging and moving it from Florida to Maine.

The main layout is now a paper mill that receives wet pulp paper for making into specialist finished paper.

The paper mill consists of two working turnouts and one that is spiked

I will post a track plan shortly.

Here are some photos of the revamped fiddle yard

  4. To be honest, I'm bringing along a bit of a timesaver layout this year, the reason I say timesaver is, Northpoint has laid the track, wired it and ballasted it.

I've just got to add a few trees, the odd building, a background, lighting and build a fiddleyard.

It's arriving this morning so there's plenty of time

This is as far as Northpoint has taken it. post-7237-0-16105800-1496821327_thumb.jpgpost-7237-0-92833800-1496821349_thumb.jpgpost-7237-0-12204900-1496821368_thumb.jpg

  5. Hi Cyanamid

    Looks interesting

I've been in Orlando Florida for the last three weeks and sent sometimes looking round the rail served industrial parks and one thing that struck me was the vast space between everything

Something that Google Streeview doesn't portray very well

Have a look at these two YouTube clips I've uploaded of Bartow Industrial Park and you'll see what I mean

Even the small sidings at the far end where the white tank cars are requires 5 feet in length to model

This one was filmed on Thursday

    http://youtu.be/FZkv1JN2oYw

And this one was 2 weeks earlier

  6. Doesn't the Peco Code 143 have Pandrol clips? That might look a bit odd in a backwoods USA shunting location. Bit heavyweight too I think.

It always amazes how critical people can be on this forum, it's his first attempt at modeling in 7mm and we worry about Pandrol clips

I'm sure with Northpoint's modeling skills he'll be able to pull it off.

Let's just wait and see what he does with the track work.

  7. I'd suggest Urban, North East - New York Port area. I'd say Brooklyn where there is plenty of opportunity without doing another "Brooklyn 3:00am"... Contemporary too.

    Best, Pete.

Peter I'm not really into Urban

It has to be done really well like "Brooklyn 3:00am" to pull in off.

I'm thinking more of an ex Santa Fe BNSF layout with GP30 patched locos somewhere in Kansas

using small tank cars and hoppers

I just need to find a track plan I'm happy with.

    Back to Carl's site again

  8. Will you have it ready for TVNAM?

North Haston is booked to appear at TVNAM

I've just got a mental block at the moment

I'm not sure what to do next

I want a one day show layout that's easy to put up and take down

With the old Haston I could be driving out of the car park 8 minutes after the show closed

This one takes about 30 minutes

  9. One more video from the weekend.

Once the NCE power cab had been replaced with a 5 amp power supply the layout ran verll

The track got very dirty and needed cleaning frequently and the six motor locos derailed a couple of times

Here's the longest train we ran.

  10. You know what I like about this hobby, some chap came up to my layout at Glasgow yesterday and thanked me for putting this stuff online.

I didn't get the guys name, I was still panicking trying to get things to run, so I'd like to say thanks and I'm glad you liked it.

  11. Okay the magnet has been moved and the road narrowed a bit and with the help of Steve it now goes round the bend....

    post-7237-0-16371700-1391643350_thumb.jpgpost-7237-0-34151100-1391643363_thumb.jpgpost-7237-0-81271200-1391643383_thumb.jpgpost-7237-0-63277700-1391643408_thumb.jpgpost-7237-0-33496600-1391643427_thumb.jpg

As it's a delayed magnet it means I can uncouple on the magnet and then push it down the branch off the crossing.

Still some tweaking and tidying up required but almost done
