Well first would need too know where this is.

When you say " I can't get the map background to work properly...", what exactly do you mean?

The scaling of the map was one issue, I couldn't get it to match the track size, and layout direction was the other.

Sorry got it slightly wrong it’s Congresbury with the branch to Blagdon.

Yep, right line in both cases being the Cheddar Strawberry line.   Don't think I am mad enough to do Yatton,  multi track mainline and two opposite diverging branchlines.

It is very easy to download the maps, all you are doing is not completing the task. It askes you to exit the OS site before the map can occupy Templot. If you follow the tutorial it works without fail. But like all things follow the instructions

     I am not on there.

I did the download, but the scaling wouldn't match and the map was top to bottom, rather that side to side like the track wants to.

  3. Hi is there anyone who might be able to draw me a plan using templot, I am don't know what I am doing wrong but I can't get the map background to work properly and having issues trying to draw.   I am looking for an N scale version of this, maybe with a bit of foreshortening of the diverging lines.

  4. Interesting point I've just noticed. Whilst I'd not been able to find any definitive Route Availability information (GWR colour coded weight restrictions) for the Calne Branch, there is a snippet in G Tanners
    The Calne Branch
    (pp9) that states "
From Chippenham... At the the approach to the point where the track became single, a notice stood which stated that no engine classified blue or red was allowed on the branch
". A quick check (Farish was right!) showed that the 57xx/8750 class panniers were designated Blue disc, and theoretically could not have been allowed on the line - that said they were the standard engine for the goods traffic (and some passenger services) from Chippenham.!

The other common loco's on the line (54xx, 48xx/14xx, 45xx, Dean Goods, and Collett 2251 were all Yellow disc or unclassified (no disc) and so were not restricted.

    Steve,

From what I have been reading these last few weeks as reference for my idea ;) You would find that the 57xx would be able to run on the line even if it's Blue dotted, BUT it would be restricted to a maximum speed of 25MPH. I know that the Strawberry Line was Dotted Blue and have read that there was a Manor class brought through to test the new turntable at Wells and that there is a picture of a 9400 class which is 'RED' dotted on the line  .

The other thing is that the maximum axle load on the front two alxes is only 17t 0c.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Hi Steve,

Not sure if you have seen it or you have been told about it, but there is a picture of a pannier auto train with a pair of 4 wheel siphons attached at the other end, so the pannier is in the middle. Picture is in 'The Great Western Railway 150 glorious years' page 192

  6. is your s1 brass?

if so you could do the same, NSWL make powered truck that would fit and S1. The S1 had 8ft wheel base on the trucks and NWSL does make DPT for them I believe 37053-4 33-1 HO 8′-0″ 40″ SW1500, etc is the correct one you are looking for. you use you side frames and glue them to the tabs in between the wheels

    I wish I could afford brass modelssad.gif ,

No it's a Atlas loco. I also want to fit sound in and there isn't much room under the hood and I'd like to tidy the cab.

  7. Well here is the start of my Alco RS-1 Brass loco with powered inline trucks from NSWL

    index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=20955

with not central motor, there is lots and lots of room for a good size speaker, that I could never dream of fitting in a HO loco. very happy with the results.

    Looks great, cool.gif

I'd like to do the same with my S1 but I can't see if they still make them or which would be the right 1 for me, any idea'sblink.gif
