  1. I remembered seeing some US articles on this and google gave me an article in Model Railroader May 2005 and if my google Fu is working properly also described in the 2008 Model Railroad Planning.

One one post on the Model Railroader blogs someone gives this advice

experience with similar materials in a different application dictate the use of duct tape on any and all sharp edges.

  2. One of Kalmbach's track planning bookazines had an ingenious Murphy bed* style mechanism to fold up an 8*4 layout, iirc it was a John Armstrong publication and the layout was called Murphy's Creek and Credenza. I cannot post a pic as 1) copyright, and 2) all my train stuff is buried deep in storage until our new house is ready in 6 months(fingers etc crossed). Plenty of YouTube vids show how to diy the mechanism for a bed.

Edit . Hate typing on a phone

  3. I was looking at an old photo of Newcastle (on Hunter :) ) and realised it was like a Minories .

Before this photo was taken, behind the photographer,  there was an extensive nest of coal loading sidings fed from where you see the goods train

And looking at it the other way there is a steam tram as well
