Motor bogies are not interchangeable as the Hornby version is top-hung. Only complete chassis are direct replacements.
Hi there, I was wondering if the Lima motor would clip into the Hornby bogie frame once the plastic top mount is removed. I'm trying to establish if the chassis will allow the Lima motor to clip in to the channels (assuming it has got them) that will allow the bogie to slide left/right at each end.

Paul

Paul,
I have a Lima Class 101 2-Car set, so I can provide some dimensions / photos of the power bogie and the underfloor opening for the power bogie if that helps?
Ian
Hi Ian, thanks for your reply. I have a broken Lima power chassis and would be able to get dimension sfrom that. But in essence, I'm looking to find out if the Hornby chassis with the top plastic motor mount removed would work.

Paul

Does anyone know if the Hornby Class 101 Power Chassis will take the Lima powered bogie as a direct fit, or if any modifications need to be made. In essence, do the bogie tabs at each end of the Lima bogie fit into the channel of the bogie frame to allow it to pivot?
Any help/advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

Hi there,
I'm looking for a Lima Class 101 plastic chassis for the power car (or failing that, a complete power car).
I have tried ebay but have only found one with an asking price of £29 with postage which seems a bit excessive for a piece of plastic and weight.
Is anyone able to point me in the direction of any potential stockists of Lima body/chassis parts?
Thanks,
Paul

I've got a load of railway vids that I was planning on taking to the recycling centre tomorrow............................unless they can be converted into something else like beer tokens.

I was driving my car the other day when I crashed into a ditch and was trapped inside. Two families stopped. One called the Smiths, the other called the Balls. Luckily I was dragged out by the Smiths.....................

The title of this implies to me that the business is going into receivership or ceasing trading rather than being ramped up by the new owner. Could I suggest that the title is changed to something clearer for the benefit of the new business owner and its customers.
Thanks,
Paul

Tesco Wigan has gone down the nick recently. The staff however are friendly & helpful - the problem I find is with wrong pricing and ever changing prices - mind the others do this also - I'm getting to hate the big supermarkets. I find our Lidl & Aldi mostly OK and more convenient.
As to Tesco meat -----

When they say "worse things happen at sea", this is probably one of them.
The problem is that the crew of such ships have no idea about what they're really carrying, despite what the manifests say. All you have to do is watch what comes out of containers in those fly-on-the-wall programmes about Customs services. I imagine that the fire is possibly due to a consignment of dodgy Chinese Lithium cells that can't be transported by air.
It would be bad luck for Hattons, and by extension us, if the boxes of Barclays were on the ship.
But not the end of the world.
It is very sad news. I'm sure that anyone who reads the article about the Maersk Honam will realise the dangers that a ship's crew face whilst at sea.

I couldn't find this article to begin with so I thought I'd post a link. Very impressive. I'm a big fan of micro layouts:

If his rudeness started with his paycut there might be something in that but he's been rude , aggressive and full of his own self importance for years.
You might have a point there.

I find with a lot of BBC news interviewers that they mistake rude and aggressive interviewing with being probing and extracting answers to difficult questions. Although I don't watch much TV and avoid TV news but I listen to a lot of radio and got fed up of the Today program as John Humphries is just plain rude and confrontational and seems more interested in his own voice then informing listeners.
In defence of John Humphries, you'd be rude and confrontational if you'd just had your pay cut in half.

You must really dislike Tomasz Schafernaker!
Yes. I wanted to make sure. I was tempted to include him for a third time, then I thought of someone else.............

9. Dan Snow
10. Dick Strawbridge

The viaduct - really? I’d have thought that a pallet of kerbstones from the local builders merchant, one every five metres and scaffold boards across the top would have been quite adequate, and constructed in half a day
Sorry, but must try harder..
But it wouldn't have been as entertaining to watch. Besides you can't ask a group of Engineers to throw down a load of kerbs and some planks? We're talking about British engineering pride here..........

That was my era of liking them as well. In the mid 1980s I thought they were very lacklustre and stopped buying them.
I think that it may have had something to do with the competition as well. That's the era when the "new boys" appeared (Mainline, Airfix, Lima) so maybe they upped their game a bit.
The Mainline catalogues were also outstanding. I particularly liked the way the Mainline catalogue showed you which locomotives went with which rolling stock.
Jason
Hi Jason,
Agree completely, especially re: Mainline catalogues. With the dawn of the internet, you'd think that Hornby could produce something both artistic and informative and leave the standard images to their online catalogue.
Regardless,

Awe damn that’s my wardrobe gone! No I was thinking more long hair, cheesecloth shirts and flares .
Yes ‘Ticket to Ride” was good. I rather liked “Welcome to our world” from year before . It went downhill from 82
I agree completely. The catalogues from 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981 were (and still are) my favourites, especially 1981's Ticket to Ride.
The problem with the current catalogues for the past decade or so is they are in the same format and have lost their appeal. Come on Hornby, do something radical and artistic for a change and I might be tempted to buy your catalogues once more.

The pictures on the BBC appeared to show areas where the concrete had completely vanished and you could see through the reinforcing mesh to the storey below.
I said to my wife that I couldn't understand why the concrete car park would have to be demolished. Surely to God it would be pretty resistant to a fire, but then I saw the pictures on the BBC as highlighted by Edwin_m in his post and then realised how intense the fire must have been to expose the reinforcing mesh. At least when they re-build it, they can fit a fire sprinkler system, or have the fire station relocated to next door.

Keep it simple. Just start.
Couldn't have put it better myself. Some other excellent comments on here too about not trying to cram too much on either. Personally I like the simple track plan in post number 3 on here. A small branch line terminus and goods platform is enough to provide operational interest. I also like that particular plan as the track is angled and provides viewing interest.

Lima Class 101 Chassis
in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Posted
Thank you. I think that i will either look to source a Lima power car complete, or a Hornby version that has the advantage of being DCC ready. It will be a simple case of swapping the body that I currently have.
All that remains is the challenge of finding one on e-bay for reasonable money.......

Paul
