  1. Hi Dave, Nice job and thanks for sharing, I am amazed how many little differences there are between a IIA and a III. Good luck with finishing it off. My Tyres are Deestones, I would have loved some Avon Traction Mileage but not at £200 per tyre! The Deestones were £60 each from memory.
  2. Thanks Dave my deadline was October 2017, I think October 2019 is more realistic.
  3. I have been locked in the garage all afternoon, 2 years after removing the engine and gearbox from the Land Rover, I finally got it back in:
  4. I told Phil Sutton when I placed the order for my class24 that if he did a class 37 I would by 10 of them...
  5. Hi Dave, Nice to see you have registered on here now, looking forward to operating Lydgate at Calne for potentially the last time...
  6. The image of the class 40 is wrong as well, D248 was a disc loco, whereas image is of D335
  7. There is the small caveat that we have not yet seen the new 24/1.... The Bachmann drivetrain used in the existing 24/25 is excellent but the rest needs complete replacement and needs to be better than the SlW offering for me to go back to Bachmann for future class 24 and class 25 purchases.
  8. What a great idea, looks fun. We had our works Christmas lunch in the Warrington Arms, I never appreciated the history behind it.
  9. I think my 1977 Land Rover chassis was rustproofed with black coloured water...
  10. I have a front operated layout precisely to allow me to better interact with the public. I make a point of saying hello to people who come to see the layout, which often results in either an interesting discussion with the viewer pr in rare cases the viewer smiles and legs it!!!
  11. A more recent one on the way out unfortunately is the Gas Cupboard in Trowbridge, shop is now shut but Dave is still online and doing shows. Shame, especially as they won Bachmann retailer of the year in 2016

    Hornby lowmac

Another interesting use for Lowmacs was to carry waste from Malago Vale carriage sidings in Bristol to the other side of Temple Meads due to lack of road access at Malago Vale. I built a replica using the Airfix Lowmac: and the real thing: http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brlowmac243-253
  13. I am 6'3" and find there is plenty of legroom, better than an HST.
  14. We have them in Bath as well, there were a load of them doing some garden maintenance in front of the royal crescent a few weeks ago. A good idea, I was surprised they were allowed to wear branded hi viz jackets, only a matter of time before someone kicks off about it..
  15. Like Gordon A, I am in to Series Land Rovers. I have owned my 1977 Series 3 since 2003 and wouldn't be separated: 2003 when I was marshalling at an MG trial. It looks tidy but chassis was rotten and replaced with a new Galv one in 2005: Fast forward to 2015 and another rebuild required: Just a quick tidy up has become a last nut and bolt rebuild: Coming back together: Engine nearly finished (today) Plan is to have it finished next year....
  16. Very envious of your space! I liked Oxford Road when I saw it at Cheltenham so will follow with interest..
  17. When I used to do offroading in the early 2000, I met a couple of guys who had them who said they were great. As cheap as a Suzuki SJ, but as capable as a Series Land Rover but distinctly warmer and more usable on a daily basis
  18. Interesting project, always liked class 60s, 60095 which appears in the poster in one of your posts was the first one I saw at Buxton.
  19. What he said! I have modelled D1023 so could probably do with D1013...
  20. I recall being told by somebody who worked for one of the bus manufacturers that the roofs are deliberately designed to shear off at the base of the pillars to minimize injurys to Passengers in the case of a bridge strike as the roof effectively passes over their heads rather than crumpling on top of them. This change came on the back of an accident, possibly the Glasgow one refered to earlier. If you look at images of bridge strike from 1st gen rear engine buses such as a fleetline or Bristol Vr you will see the roof crumples up like a ball of paper, unlike the Trident in Birmingham today where the roof has come cleanly off.
  21. Correct, also the hatches on top of the noses were way too small. The bodysides were too shallow which meant the noses were also too squat. I converted one into 37114 in Dutch livery using the headcode boxes from a Lima 37 and scratchbuilt a load of the detail including new bonnet top doors and struggled to get the headcode boxes between the horn grilles and tail lights such was the squatness of the nose. I was never 100% happy with the result and sold it 12 months later
  22. The Skirts were 2mm too deep, consequently the buffers were mounted too low as well. I will dig out some photos of the mods I did on mine when I am back home to show what I mean.
  23. 37429 was a first batch loco as was 37419 in EWS and 37673 in RFD, they were completely mis-shappen 37238 and 37142 were from the second batch as these were the skirt fitted version. The skirts are the biggest issue but an easyish fix
  24. Reading stuff like this makes me glad I don't live/work near Bristol anymore....
  25. I noticed that there are now posters in and around Paddington station advising of the need to be in the front five coaches
