  1. Thanks Nick. At points I was wondering if it would turn out OK but happy with the end result
  2. I had a fair bit of free time today so decided to crack into painting some of the bricks a different colour on the warehouse. While mind numbing at time the end result is worth it, so with the music playlist set to my favourite bands of the 1990s I set to; I used a number of different colours, the base of the warehouse being Halfords Red primer which is very close but not identical to Humbrol 73 which provides a very subtle different colour. I also used number 70, 86 and 60. The latter is very orange when first applied but "calms down" when dry. Although quite a contrast in colours when the wash for the mortar is applied it all tones down and blends in While the warehouse was drying, I further indulged in 1990s nostalgia and cracked on with my Class 60. This has been more involved than I would have liked but think the end result will be worth it. Not long after opening the box I discovered that one of the "T" pieces that is the bogie pivot was broken at one end, a common fault apparently. Thankfully they are only £1 and Gaugemaster had them in stock although replacing it was an involved if not complicated job. I also ran a critical eye over the weathering which was a bit heavy in a number of places and not really accurate for the loco in the period it is modelled (1991 to 1993). Armed with IPA I removed the cab and bodyside dirt which actually produced a nice effect of a loco that had been dirty but recently cleaned Happy with the base, I further weathered the underframe and then picked out some details such as spilt diesel near the fuller, brake block dust and the silver treads on the cab steps. The silencer was also weathered to tone the silver down to a more rust colour as the loco was in 1993. Obviously 60029 is not suitable for Peasevern Yard so I am building a small display based on Westbury which it will live on but I can also use it to photograph my other locos. I am also interested to see how @Nick G get on with his stabling point as may do something similar in the future for it as a test bed for me to try DCC potentially.
  3. Nice choice Nick, looks really good. This loco is one of my favourites because about 10 years ago I raced it down Tinsley marshaling yard in my Mondeo! I was visiting the warehouse building that was built on the yard and we were driving round the service road at the back.. 60065 was alongside and set off Light engine as I came round the corner so I decided to catch it up, I think I clocked 30mph before I got past!
  4. They were very fragile indeed, I made a Ford Transit tipper and while a nice finished result I had to fix it quite a few times and even during assembly bits broke.
  5. Yep, I worked it out to be the same when I exchanged messages earlier but to be honest I want to fix the van and I spent more in the pub last night with less to show for it..
  6. That is handy to know, have just dropped them a note re buying the lamp brackets.
  7. There was of course D6319 which sadly got away dud to an admin cock up at Swindon
  8. Today I was mostly focused on the layout as I had a very productive day on the Land Rover yesterday. My first area of focus was the crossing gate. As I had always intended to extend the layout the crossing gate was designed to hinge on to the extension. There was a design cock up as I hinged it on the wrong side and with the thickness of the 2 backscene and lack of space for the road means it is superfluous on the extension. Removing it isn't really an option so an alternative was required so I decided to hide it in a building. I'm On Peafore Yard I had a building in a similar position as a control room / pump house so decided to do the same again and scratchbuild something. I built a cardboard inner which was covered in Slaters embossed brick. The door and window are high so they are the same height as a Lorry cab I am aware there is a lot of brick buildings on the extension so went for something a bit different in the other corner scratchbuilding a 1970s style industrial unit from concrete block and cladding. There were quite a few of these type of units in the area, some not lasting very long before the area was gentrified. A final shot from the main part of the layout, the office from the scrap yard which is a modified and detailed LCUT kit.
  9. Thanks Clive, I enjoyed the Peterborough show, I ended up doing the deal to sell Peafore Yard at the show. In a link to the past, I am hoping to get into my archive files today to see if some of the photos used for the Pallet Lane Backscene can be used for the new board.
  10. Thanks Nick, will be interested to see your new layout, I am looking for ideas for a small photo plank to display my class 60.
  11. Ah, that is lovely to hear thanks Kevin. And thanks for putting your photos of the area online they have been a god send researching the layout, especially since the Bristol rail archive site seems to be no longer working.
  12. A few photos from a recent visit to Peasevern Yard
  13. A few more pics from tonight 08950 is now back in one piece after its cab repaint The burnt out brake van awaits the inevitable gas axe appointment A couple of views of 37029. With the extension I can get a few different shots from the head shunt The crashed Mercedes came out as well Something a little more prototypical, 03382 on the Presflos
  14. With an empty house for the weekend, I had a great opportunity to get the layout up completely for the first time ever. In its full form the layout is 14ft long: The honour of hauling the first train along the layout fell to 7017, the first time I had actually run this loco. This was purchased sound fitted, the sound chip since removed and sold which required the loco to be rewired. All worked fine other than the polarity of the motor being wrong so this will need to be rewired First train on the extension was the Presflos which are a key train for the extension. The warehouse platform has been modified to allow the warehouse to be fitted. Back on familiar territory The silo is big! It dwarfs my class 37;
  15. Number 3a gets my vote. By that I mean leave the siding but extend the bridge to the front to break up the scene. As is it looks like the bridge ends in mid air so I would be tempted to do a mini rebuild on the bridge and have it full relief ove the fiddle yard road?
  16. Very interesting project, I like the idea of having the board exhibitable but then incorporating into the garden layout. Nicely executed, and O gauge with class 37s's so lots to like!

    EBay madness

    £450 for this is nuts..... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335059226176?hash=item4e03160e40:g:-x8AAOSwyv5lEykU&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4JbVUOnX91NdvYtGy6P60SvrodAGFPB6X0uuxvcStG%2FJ7DFfXstn9kLyO1lpxcpFBkpU0ADwsGqQSNxMreKe1NA%2BfsQwYsp%2BzpUFB%2Bzg7Cgq2bMr4r8lFSJUsBtpo6EkgqIbug%2F7gsznxivxqNLlfgWWvHi7C1FrCb%2FknUZcL1z56GzHrjCwHR%2FZIS0yCG%2Fc%2FrUA3FsfnqQFDduancRXkd1ZRWL%2Fr4hUevUvCIGZ0QA0WItmb4NsSiClDlEh%2BStjRg%2Fq26iNHV5%2Fh%2FpDcojGNcb47ijPS%2FGvNAXHOnBR%2FF8c|tkp%3ABk9SR7C8jMTnYg
  18. Lovely bit of work James, the bridge looks very effective
  19. I soak the cotton bud in IPA then rub away. It takes a while for anything to happen but after a couple of minutes it started to come off and then got progressively quicker/easier.
  20. Nice project. Not sure if you are planning to keep the original cab colour but the yellow star is easily removed with IPA on a cotton bud, the pic below is the original red cab;
  21. Peasevern Yard scenic section is less than 5ft, you could shrink it further if you shorten the headshunt which is designed to accommodate a class 37. I use cassettes to complete the run round loop saving space, my fiddle yard is longer than it needs to be. Basic track plan, the board is 15inch wide but could be narrower Completed layout
  22. Will be interested to see the finished article, I need to get stuck into mine.
  23. Heljan are redoing both their class 37 and class 55, I spent a lot of time inspecting both at MIOG in March and they are much better than the previous efforts so for Accurascale to go up against them would be a big commercial risk.
  24. Good choice, can see Accurascale doing well with this.
