  1. The Scarlington crew had a very enjoyable weekend in the company of some excellent layouts and friendly visitors who were very kind with their compliments about our new offering. If I had to pick out a couple of layouts, I particularly liked Hornsey Broadway for its impressive scratch built buildings and beautifully muted colour palette, and Bridge at Remagen, again for the quality of the scratch building. I've seen Alloa a few times but it never fails to impress. Just excellent! The overall quality of modelling on view was probably as good as I've seen at Glasgow over the years. Thanks to Ian and the team for their efforts on all our behalf and I trust that the show was the success it deserved to be. After a long journey back to Scarborough we finally got the layout safely packed away at the club rooms at 1.15am. Tired, but all the richer for the experience. Mike
  2. Hi Martin, Thanks for reporting a potential mistake, but I think we got this one right. http://www.hullmrs.org/barrowfleet.htm Your input is nonetheless much appreciated. All the best, Mike
  3. North of England Line 2 - Scarlington will also be making its exhibition debut before heading out onto the circuit at Falkirk in November. Utilising the fiddle yard and lighting rig from the original North of England Line, this layout features a whole new set of scenic boards and a different era. Set at the end of the blue diesel era and featuring the approach to a large station on the ECML before electrification visitors will be able to spot locomotive hauled passenger and freight trains as well as HSTs and DMUs, and also the occasional steam special. All the buildings in this heavily urban scene are either scratch built or kit bashed, all totally unique, as is our very own working cliff lift.
  4. Making its exhibition debut at this show is Durham Street in O gauge by members of Scarborough DRM. Those of you that were familiar with Ian Harper's Haymarket Cross will Recognise Ian's influence in this latest 'shed' type layout, described by some club members as Haymarket Cross on steroids. The layout features all scratch built buildings and unique hand painted figures, as well as sound fitted locomotives being serviced and made ready for their next turn of duty. Set in the north east during the early 1960's, former LNER steam, and early diesel traction is to the fore, recalling steams last hurrah as the relentless march towards modernisation foreshadows the demise of a way of life, 150 years in the making. For more on this layout please visit http://sdrmweb.co.uk/Durham_Street.php
  5. Thank you, now edited. Apologies for my mistake. Mike

  7. North of England Line had a great weekend and were honored to receive the Yvonne Nehrlich plate. Thanks to Les and the team for making us so welcome and for inviting to to participate in such a quality exhibition.
  8. North of England Line and Rumbling Bridge will be soon setting off for the long drive down from Scarborough. If you saw us at Erith a few weeks ago and enjoyed what you saw, come and say hello. NoEL will have some of Derek Rutherford's N gauge locomotives running including the P2, W1, streamlined B17 and railcar as well as our Flying Scotsman, Scotch goods, Queen of Scots and Silver Jubilee sets. RB features entirely scratch built buildings set in stunning Scottish scenery with sound fitted locomotives. See you there!
  9. As a member of the Scarborough team that attended with North of England Line and Lomond Street, I would just like to add my thanks to those of GJB60009, to the Falkirk team for such a warm welcome and an excellent show. The many positive comments received about our layouts were warmly appreciated, and it was a pleasure to engage with such a friendly and knowledgeable crowd. (Thanks to Millerhillboy for 'the big house' comment) Congratulations to all concerned, I hope that the show was a success. It was certainly very well attended, and deservedly so. The Scarborough crew had an enjoyable weekend in your company.
  10. It was once again our pleasure to host you and Mo, Tony. I'm sorry I didn't get more chance to chat as this show seemed to take a lot of my not so spare time. I have to agree with your observations above. Paul has become a good friend of SDRM and many of his creations have deservedly graced our exhibitions. What I particularly admire is his 'can't buy it, so I'll make it' attitude, as well as his undoubted skills, and unassumingly helpful attitude when imparting the 'this is how I did it' information. Best wishes, Mike
  11. A big thanks to all who contributed to making this years event such a resounding success. Of course, we couldn't have done it without you. Mike
  12. Hi Banburysaint, I hope that you enjoy your holiday in our beautiful part of the world and that you find time to visit our little show. There are three pay and display car parks within 150 yards of the exhibition. Pickering station, Eastgate and Vivis Lane. You should also be able to find free parking in the residential streets around 200 yards from the show venue. The streets around the Middleton Road area are often a good bet for a space. There will be yellow directional signs to guide you to the venue, but for satnav the postcode is YO18 1AA Best wishes, Mike

  14. Thanks for your kind words bridgiesimon. I would suggest that you need the appropriate book from this series as it contains details of all the variants with clear photographs of all areas including roof and interior details backed up with text and diagrams. NoEL 2

What a stunning piece of work on the D49. The detail and overall look is fantastic. Have you used a cut down B1 chassis, or is it a Schools? Mike On inspection it looks like the Dapol Schools chassis, which would be entirely appropriate.
