  1. Hornby grease is known for going hard after a period of time. It could have jammed that gearbox up and is causing the shaft to spin on the worm gear. A full strip down, clean and lubricate should work. The drive cup on the worm may need gluing as it could have split it
  2. So, I took the plunge and bought one of the discounted 87s, originally a preorder, but when Hornby upped their prices, I cancelled it. Glad I waited! What decoders are people using in the 21 pin models? Looked back through this thread but couldn't find a definitive answer. Does the chassis need trimming? Thanks
  3. Hi all, I'm modelling a class 302 parcels unit using Replica suburban coaches. I'm having trouble finding pictures of the underframe layout with regards to the tanks, brake rigging etc. Does anyone have any clear pictures of all 3 vehicles they could share. Thanks
  4. Hi all, are the Bachmann Mk1 suburban coaches the same variant as the Replica ones? I.e, could a class 304 be made from one? Thanks
  5. Morning all. Im looking for pictures of 86103 Andre Chapelon as she was around 89/90, namely the roof detail and underframe details. Seems to be precious little on the web about it sadly. Thanks
  6. Hornby changed the motor design of the old Lima models, and the mounting is different. The newer bogies mounts are a central peg on top of the motor housing. Youll have to change the whole chassis to fit the newer motor
  7. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374357570353?hash=item5729733331:g:zKUAAOSwOghf5p8H&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwE0LF7MraIs6SNEWqbsTKWz3pSypVBa8umo%2BlhecSFmR7VgtBbe1p3ryCYsdqbKv1Hjn4g%2F%2FEOVuFFJ2z9%2BV2GdY1dNz%2FpF5qfdxLifkwZQ8b1BMio9CWcWcT8Ot9f0C8%2BYm91h7T%2FCrZZQr%2BfTC%2Fdm2VHeard1iUOujOIjuIn6QX02EJ5KSVFXH7il6tOLxsT5J88FFcxqwSs5liyrPY06%2F2PcQcrtuULptkq%2BM%2BtYlfEtjqL25KoYk%2BhkmnW94Vw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR66Cu4i6Yg I have these in my Hornby freightliner sets. Theyre HO, but as they're a smaller scale, they match up pretty well to the smaller wheels of the FGA flats. Been using them for 6-7 years now with no issues and running a 20 car train
  8. Aerosol, Halfords Fiat red orange is as close as youll get
  9. Ive used a few of these things now, weedkiller train, some NSE coaches and an engineers tool coach. Take the bogies off, and smooth out the section where the coupling cam acts. Theres a bit of a rough section that stops the bogies mooving freely. Secondly, remove the couplings, and file down the top of the 'crank', it rubs on the back of the buffer beam. Thirdly, take the wheels out and throw tham as far away from the model as you can. Theyre split axle, so b2b's cant be adjusted, and theyre really badly machined. I've replaced mine with some 14mm sets from Peters Spares. After that, they run as sweetly as the Bachmann coaches they were copied from
  10. If its the one they used on Boldon Junction, I believe its a Hornby HST with a lot of work gone into it
  11. I've taken my early pantograph off mine and fitted the BW version. Very simple operation
  12. You can still get the DC kits 308 fronts as a seperate item. Im fitting them to a Lima 117, which is a really old way of doing things, but works for me! You have to do a lot of cutting and window swapping to get something that just about looks like what its supposed to. Other than that, im fresh out of ideas
  13. Hi all, there was an article on here about some Lima Shell gas wagons they had converted to a more convincing prototype, with the white livery and orange band. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Since all the pictures disappeared I'm struggling to find anything. Thanks
  14. Not sure if this is a bit late, but if you have a facebook account, a chap called Jeremiah Bunyan on Model Rail Netwrok is 3D printing B-W and S-F pantographs for a very reasonable price. If you have Twitter, contact a lad called Shedley Yard, hes produced some ETH sockets and RCH TDM cables for me as per the class 86 and 87.
  15. Has anyone on here had issues with the APT causing their circuit breakers to trip? I bought the 5 car set which would run round happily all day. I bought the other coaches to go with it, making a full set, less 1 NDM and the darn thing keeps tripping my EB1s. Inrush current is switched on, set to 5amps and nearly the max time allowed for a trip and it still does it. I've removed 4 coaches and it seems to be behaving now. Could the capacitors be causing this? Can they be snipped out without wrecking the lights, they dont seem to work as they should anyway?
