Was very impressed by Banbury when I saw it yesterday. It was the accuracy in the smaller "vertical" things, like the different fence types and hand rails, and also the phone masts etc that I thought gave the layout something else. They were modern features that really help to set the scene with the prototypical rolling stock. Inspirational stuff.

Really enjoyed seeing Kirkhill in person yesterday. The split and reform moves of the HSTs are fascinating to watch - so used to thinking of them as complete units. Fantastic slow running as well.

Really looking forward to seeing this layout on Sunday. Really inspirational.

Just looked thru your thread for the first time and I really like the look of this layout. Having grown up on the Lea Valley line I have a real affection for the GER & Liverpool St. Looking forward to 2013 developments.

I don't post a lot, (I just sit and marvel at what everyone else is putting together ), but here I feel compelled - what a wonderful layout - I wait with anticipation for the next news!
Congratulations.

David,
Each time I read through your thread I spot something different in the details of the buildings or the landscape. This is an excellent layout - I plan to build an urban layout next and if it is half as good at this I'll be very pleased. Inspirational and challenging stuff.

Hi Trevor,
The DRS 37 dummy is a repaint (I'm just doing the powered 37 to go with it now) - I bought a spare body shell from the Farish stand and Ian Stoate Models sell dummy chassis which with a bit of work make very reliable free-wheeling dummy engines. I used a TPM detailing kit, this one had Fencehouses front window frames but the new Taylor detailing kit has window frames included, the snow ploughs and couplings are also TPM. The paints are by phoenix and the transfers are from Lancaster City Models for the (DRS logos) and Fox for the (lining and numbers). Its a really easy livery to paint I prefer to run dummies rather than double head with two powered ones.
Here's a picture of the dummy chassis:
Somewhere in this thread or in my layout thread there are some more pictures of the dummy chassis from when it warped slightly and I had to straighten it out/build a replacement)
Hope that helps!
Simon
Thanks Simon - most helpful - i'll give it a go.

the 37 will be used to top and tail so will need to run just as well being pushed and pulled.
Just need to paint the chassis and I can get detailing the buffer beam
Hi there
I just wondered where you picked up the dummy DRS 37 from? I have a DRS 57 and thought it might be fun to run this with a dummy DRS 37 on a FNA train as a double header but as I am running DC didn't want to burn up the 57.
Thanks

Hi
Really liking this layout - Congrats. I have great affection for the Chiltern Mian Line in this area. My Grandparents lived in Claydon, a little north of Banbury, and I used to watch the trains pass by to and from Banbury from their back garden at the top of the hill so the Chiltern Line is very much part of my railway history.
Am currently planning a layout in N in this area myself at some point, and like you waiting on Dapol to release the W&SR Buffet car to complete the set. (May turn up eventually)! Also planning to run some XCountry stock to cover the area between Anhyo Junction and Leamington Spa.
Just on a side note - where abouts did you pick up the cable trunking or is this hand made?

Hi Dave
This is an excellent picture. I have followed this layout for quite sometime and I have to say I think its fantastic. I have a slightly nostalgic view of the HST, it is only a few years older than me and I have grown up watching these trains setting off from the London Stations many times, in all their various liveries. However I still think the BR blue sits the best (although I have to say the current XC livery comes close), but this really shot captures the atmosphere of an HST.
Congratulations
Trevor

I've spent a very enjoyable few hours over the past couple of days working through this thread from page 1. The quality of the layout, particularly the workmanship on the scenery is exceptional.
I look forward to seeing the next phase take shape. Thanks for sharing!
