Well my mate thought so; he got a BNIB 2.5amp gaugemaster controller/transformer for

  3. Quote === " In the end, though, it's my railway, and they're all going to have to run at some stage with overhead and third rail, though I may have the electrics on one circuit and steam on another." I like (sorry that should be love) this attitude. I think it is all about having fun and for you also spending quality time with your son Ben helping you. This to me is what the hobby should be all about. I even like the clutter all over the place as that reminds me of my forgotten railway room. Big sigh I ought to get my ar*e in gear.
  4. This sounds like a very interesting project. It is clear you have done a fair amount of research of the area. When I was a child we met an Auntie of mine at Southampton docks she had been returning from Rhodesia. I can't remember the exact location and it must have been around the mid to late 1960's but I distinctly remember the railway was inset in the road and I saw a shunting engine trundle along with I think wagons in tow. Dockside layouts have thus always held a fascination for me and I look forward to seeing the development of yours.
  5. My garage is a mess including my layout!

  6. Hi Peter. Sorry I could not make bakewell I don't know if you have my message regarding my recent speed camera incurrsion resulting in a six month ban (doh). Just to say congratulations on winning best layout in show well deserved I'm sure! Do I see a Hartlepool Show mentioned? Can someone kindly fill me in with the show details please. Regards Andrew. Oh and Jamie I have yet to meet you properly and I couldn't agree more with your recent comments regarding the other layout that Peter built! Maybe you could post some of your many (ha ha) photos on here or on a different thread somewhere? Cheers mate.
  7. I am liking the look of this layout and thread very much. Please keep the posts coming.
  8. A smashing layout and who cares if it is more of a blog! I would love to see the extension to the old girder bridge I have walked across the real thing but only once I might add!
  9. Can I ask what size card as in thickness did you use? IE I guess this is a fairly sturdy structure? Cheers
  10. Sent you a pm Merf but for anyone who is interested. The photo from Pennyfford (Llanbourne thread) brought back some happy memories Merfyn. My dad Jack Tyson was a br shunter there around about that time I think he moved when they stopped the cement trains. Ended his career as a signalman in Rockcliffe Box. I remember going to see him in work one day at Pennyfford and having a ride back up to his little hut on 40192 (I think) the power was awesome the driver seemed to ease it up the gradient towards Wrexham. Thanks for posting the photo!
  11. Hi Peter I have been a bit quiet myself lately and have'nt seen you since the Llanberris show. When is your next exhibition date for any of your layouts? Also did I see right --- ready to run John Summers hopper wagons! Oh yes indeed where do I order? I worked 22 years at Shotton Works it was British Steel when I started but they still made 'proper steel' I remember these hoppers were lined up by the dozen both at Bidston docks and at the steel works sidings which a few sidings still remain near Dee marsh. Those were the days! Anyway sending best wishes and hope to catch up with you soon and don't forget to put me first in the queue for those hoppers!
  12. I'm pretty sure that rather blurred yet handsome young man is yours truly! I enjoyed operating the layout it ran very well nice slow running available. As Peter says some of the electrics played up in the station section at one point there was smoke coming from one of the transformers! We also had a minor power cut on the Sunday but all in all a most enjoyable exhibition.
  13. Hi all It is an honour to help Peter and the team this Friday at the Llanberris Show. I am operating this wonderful layout on Friday and I must warn all viewers that this is the first time I have ever operated at an exhibiton so please go easy with me if you are fly shunted by wagons or covered in china clay! However come and say hello and ask questions have a natter etc I don't bite and I very much look forward to meeting you. I work on the real thing at Chester and I am really looking forward to operating this beauty. regards to all Andrew
  14. Hi I am off that week and that weekend and would love to come and help run the layout at the show I have sent you a pm. Regards Andrew.TheFonz1
  15. Hi all I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if this particular layout was ever featured in any of the modelling magazines and if so which? I know it is featured on 'Another lineside look at model railways DVD' I have that and have watched it many times. I am interested in the trackplan and overall size of the layout construction buildings etc. I also do believe that the model was sold some years ago but is unfortunately unused and seemingly unloved. Which is a shame as I do like this layout very much. Thank you in advance. Regards TheFonz1
  16. Hey Peter I don't like the layout! Wait for it I absolutely love it!!!!! It has long been one of my favourites and you are obviously a talented and skillful modeller (creep creep)... Anyway just keep the updates coming please and if you fancy helping a less talented modeller in North Wales let me know! Best Wishes Andrew
  17. I somehow missed this layout on the old site so it is great to see it on here! I hope you are finding the time to dedicate on working on the layout? You made a very valid point in the link to the old thread regarding the time and effort needed on such a large layout. A fantastic layout thank you for sharing the photos. Can I be really cheeky and (A) Come and play with it or (B) can you post a video up of it please regards Andrew
  18. Yes me to! I still have one of the Model Rail magazines with Carrick Road in it as I thought then and still do that it was a smashing (no accident pun intended) layout. I seem to remember you were wearing a rather snazzy shirt in the mag !!!! Seriously though great to see you on here best wishes and please like all the others keep up the work on a fantastic layout. thanks
