  1. Hi all, A mate of mine does 'O' gauge and has 3 locos with failed plastic gears. He understands that Brass replacement ones have been made, either by Heljan, or a private source. Could anyone offer advice of a link perhaps to such a source of new gears please? Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi, FYI the 50008 picture is in Cheltenham Alston Sidings and stock formations suggest at Paddington - Cheltenham service, or vice versa...
  3. Brilliant info guys, thank you all for sharing your knowledge with me.
  4. Thank you for this Graham, my knowledge of the ScR is sadly lacking a bit. I used to do Freedom of Scotland weeks in the 80s but coming from Gloucester it took a while to get up there, often used 1S19. These diagrams I have acquired are full of little snippets that its nice to learn about. You help is very much appreciated :-)
  5. Also Graham Ive now found another 50 diagram for Perth which shows for Perth 06.22 CONTROLP4/1 and 13.50 CONTROL P4/2. Would these be pilot duties around the station maybe?
  6. Graham R... Could I pick your brains again please? I have a Cl. 50 diagram dated from 13/12/71 which shows a LD from PO to Motherwell then LD from Motherwell working 'CONTROL S72' until 12.42. The loco then ran LD to PO and then again from 14.00 at PO the loco works 'CONTROL S139/2' until 21.00. Do you have any ideas what these CONTROL jobs are please?
  7. Thanks for all the help and advice chaps... much appreciated
  8. Hi Graham, Yes, it was booked a Class 50. The loco came to Perth on 1S25 22.30 Euston to Perth. The Grangemouth trip was a fill in move before the loco returned South on 1M12 21.15 Euston as far as Crewe. The diagram only shows Class 7 there and 8 back. I was thinking there might be head code although I do recall the ScR often just showed Number Dot Dot Dot in the head codes. The Sighthill trip is shown as 6S86 in the diagram not 6S68. Does the WTT show 6S68? The loco for the Sighthill job returned LD to PO at 21.20 then worked 3M22 Glasgow - Crewe / Euston Parcels. Do you have info on head codes for LD Glasgow to PO or ECS from Glasgow to Larkfield? Also... have you heard of Bridgeton TAD? What is TAD? On the WR we had a PAD (Pre-Assembly Depot) where track was assembled. Could a TAD be Track Assembly Depot? And Coabridge CB? What did CB stand for? Thanks in advance :-)
  9. Hi, Would anyone have any Scottish WTTs for 1971 and can tell me the train head codes for the following services please? 13.04 Perth to Grangemouth class 7 (might be a conditional service). 16.50 Grangemouth to Perth class 8 (might be a conditional service). ECS trains from Glasgow Central to Larkfield (presumably Larkfield was carriage sidings?? Light Engine moves from Glasgow to Polmadie shed. Thanks in advance...
  10. This has to be post May 1971 as its 'B', if it was pre May 1971 it would of been 'C' for the West of England..
  11. D600 left Swindon 8th May 1967 and 1V33 was the Cornishman
  12. The shot of 601 and Western is 21st August 1967 and the Western is D1017. D601 was being transferred to Landore to work in West Wales for a short period by 1M95 Penzance to Manchester service as far as Newport where the train reversed and headed towards Crewe with 601 going to Swansea.
  13. The open day at Swindon was 31st August 1968, D838 left 10th September 1968, D7000 left shortly after in GFY and 1015 stayed in works until November.
  14. Here you are Ray M... quite a few had these in the colour at some stage...
  15. Hi, I've just bought 2 Hornby Mark 2 E coaches from a trader at the Hornby event at Gaydon and in my haste I failed to look at them properly. I've discovered that the 'coach with lights' has had the wires cut (not too much of an issue) but more importantly the bogies have been swapped for BR type 1 bogies instead of the B4 they should have :-( I can't believe I missed that.... my haste at the excitement of getting 2 coaches I wanted :-( Can I get spare bogies from any suppliers does anyone know please? I don't think Bachmann ones will fit Hornby. Ever hopeful...
  16. The 50s did have black jumpers boxes. Well, thats what i've seen in pictures. However.... I've spoken to a fitter and he recalls they were dark Olive in colour. He believes that's the colour they were delivered in from the manufacturer (an undercoat / protection coat) and that when fitters were told to fit them, they took them out of the box and fitted them in the colour they were delivered in. It could be the difference between depot fitted and Works fitted MU jumpers. In those days depots didn't really weald a paint brush, unions made sure of that.
  17. My son is just getting into N gauge and we have bought two two-wagon packs. One is the FEAB Freightliner spine wagon twin pack (2F-044-004), the other is GB Railfreight bogie box van MJA (2F-025-006). When we couple the 2 wagon sets together the coupling slips over the other. It seems to be an issue with the GB wagons, the coupling seems to have too much free 'up and down' movement. The Freightliner wagons have smaller wheels than the GB wagons but I would of thought the coupling heights would be a standard. Is there a known issue with these wagons and is there a remedy please? Thanks in advance.
  18. I've not heard that. I don't think the existing dynostarters would of been man enough to provide the output needed for ETH. And to of had bigger ones wouldn't fit in the noses..
  19. Yes, the Saturday was 100% solid 800s but on the Sunday 1V11 was 6535. The last 3 Up trains on the Sunday were 1O16 812 1O17 811 1O18 823 and on the Down it was 1V17 817 and 1V19 822.. On that Saturday 2nd 806 was at STJ in the afternoon...
  20. I'm guessing you were one of the many to see 6000 return to the main line on this date? (I was at Pilning to see it) 1E24 was the 11.35 Cardiff - Newcastle, booked at STJ at 12.01. 4C15 was the 08.27 SO Stoke Gifford - Margam A.C.S. steel liner, STJ 08.49-08.52 8X04 CWR train probably coming from Shrewsbury (Hookagate PAD)? -V62... there was an 8V62 08.10 Washwood Heath - Stoke Gifford - Then LD to STJ? 8B25. . . Depending on which end it its on, if its on the East, it could be a freight to Bristol Divn. or if its on the West, it could very well of been a code for a local trip in the NE or wherever the loco came from. On the ScR they used O for Edinburgh - Glasgow trains (presumably the O meant Circle - Edin - Glas - Edin - Glas etc, i.e going around in circles?).
  21. The intention was to fit a donkey engine in place of the boiler in 870. BR had 33s (1960) and the first 20 class 47's (1962) were fitted with ETH. Whether it was intended to fit or just to see if it would fit is unclear from the Swindon drawings and quite what was about for it to supply EH too I don't know. When Derby got 870 they sent it back because of the collision damage. Presumably SDN thought that RTC was going to chop it about a bit and use bits rather than a complete loco. 824 was also put by after withdrawal for possible use by the RTC and it was kept at Bristol for nearly a year after withdrawal. it had a defective A engine and was on one engine only for the last few days of its BR life. In the end RTC took 832 after LA did a double bogie change in early 1973. I guess things were constantly moving and BR was always slow to catch up so when / if the idea of gas turbine - hydraulic transmission was abolished the locos were kept just in case. D832 didn't do much for the RTC, maybe 1 or 2 trips?
  22. I've never seen a picture of D7019 without a Yellow panel. Entering traffic on 14/02/62 would mean it would of almost certainly had one applied, have you got evidence that it did or didn't? D7021 entered same day as D7019. D7020 and D7021 travelled Down from BP to SDN together on 02/02/62 but D7020 entered 08/02/62. D7018 arrived at Swindon 10/01/62 GNY and went into traffic 17/01/62. On 20/01/62 it was stopped at BTL with a defective transmission, went into SDN 24/01/62 for a trans. change and was released 31/01/62 in GSY. So it was about for less than a week in GNY.
  23. 7B56 7B56 was the 09.48 Okehampton to Exeter Riverside Yard between May and October 1971, the return working off 7B65 06.00 Exeter Riverside Yard - Okehampton. My records from July 17th to its withdrawal don't show it worked 7B56 so on that basis its a May 71- July 1971 shot...
  24. Gen from the FB group post... the 37 derailed 27th November 1967 bring a train off the Penallta branch...
