  1. Sheffield council tenants change of conditions have come through, what a bunch of idiots. Nowhere do they mention how to pay cash for your rent, they want it direct debit. Quick google shows the law says "as long as you have tried to pay with legal tender, you cannot be sued for monies owed". Chas is legal tender, so if they stop taking cash, doesn't that make them trying to have direct debit only illegal?

      Metr0Land offer's some sound advice! I'd assume full details of payment options are available on their website or helpline. Personally I'd be very wary of any landlords insisting on cash payments. That just strikes me as landlords trying to eliminate an audit trail. I'd very much want evidence of the payments leaving one account and being received by another.

      Are you paying in advance or arrears? Does it count as a debt if it is in advance?

      Also how hard do you have to try to pay with Legal Tender? I presume more than just not finding the details on a website.
