  1. I've just stumbled across this thread and the first few pages, especially the dialect and phrases used in the Aynuk and Ayli made me chuckle. I know its a piss take its funny how accurate it is in a way. I'm not old enough to partake in all of this nostalgia, but as a fairly middle of the road brummie (with hardly any accent) who grew up in S/C I worked in wolves and dudley for 3 years (may not seem long to some of you but thats the bulk of my "career") and a group of my friends who we have dinner parties with regularly are from wolves, tipton and coseley/sedgley etc and this reminds me so much of all of them especially when drunk!!! P.S no idea on the rest of this mad o'rourkes stuff but the pie factory in tipton is great, even if (to me anyway) it does seem a bit dated and oldy worldy! Andy
  2. I used MSTS from its release. There was nothing like running some blue arrow TS locos on the themes mersey route and used Rail simulator/railworks/whatever they call it today since release, although its starting to struggle on my laptop now (even though its got an i7 and Geforce card). I wanted to buy the remaining IHH stock before they closed but I couldnt bring myself to pay £140 for stock, a lot of the steam stuff which I had. Time for some screenshots?
  3. I know this is not railways, but a good watch for any budding photographer, particulally a "creative" one and hence this thread. I've always loved this chaps photography since first seeing his images in F1 racing in the mid 90s. His stuff is more abstract than documentary and really creative so much so he has been recognised by the royal photographic society - its a fairly long interview focused on a different subject but the points he makes are very good and can be applied elsewhere:
  4. how do you get down to that spot? Is it a long walk?
  5. I saw this on flickr. It isn't mine but I thought it was quite creative. http://www.flickr.com/photos/crayzy_ray/7963390892/
  6. I don't usually take photos of Locos but this time last year I bought my dad a driving experience on the SVR. Great day out and took a few portrait style photos. Perfect crisp October day and light was nice. IMG_1023 by Andrew_S84, on Flickr IMG_1090 by Andrew_S84, on Flickr
  7. Glad I'm not the only one who was thinking this..!
  8. Ive just watched my team put in a great performance against arsenal - you wouldnt know it though, sky sports football first have just spent 20 minutes discussing the problems with arsenal rather than the quality of our performance. It will be exactly the same on match of the day later - such a narrow focus on such a few clubs it infuriates me.
  9. I've grown up in the last 20 years (but don't support one of the big boys, I'm a Villa fan) and I have started to question what the point is? Did it used to be like this? I think in my time watching football i've seen Leeds, Utd, Blackburn, arsenal, chelsea and last season Man city win the title - thats 6 teams in 21 years whats the point in trying to compete the best we can hope for is a 5th place finish and even when we looked remotely like getting in the top 4 man city bankrolled themselves steamrollered us, spurs and everton through stupid spending. Its demoralising and you question what are you competing for? If it were upto me Id tell them all to sling their hooks and ###### off to a super league so the rest of us can have a more level playing field, more variety and more competition. on a separate topic - after the first 20 mins yesterday - its the first time i've thought - that lot deserve to go down, there is a fine line between "inexperience" and poor players....
  10. Don't often get the chance but early saturday morning at the SVR a few weeks ago.
  11. That looks great - I am building the connoisseur Jinty at the moment. This one looks a bit more detailed - who is Geoff and whats his company?!
  12. I think your building really is something to aspire to Jazz - Anyway - just a thought looking at the videos. Has anyone ever tried to mount a camera on a wagon to get some moving shots - that would be good!
  13. Some fantastic shots here - can't veiw the whole thread on my phone here but managed the first 2 pages. One thing does strike me though - where is the speed? On the moving train pictures everyone appears to have "stopped" the locos as if they aren't moving? Why? Has no one ever thought to drop the shutter speed and capture the motion? I appreciate that the steam locos won't be moving that fast on preserved lines but I still think it should be possible to get the movement in those wheels and rods at least, especially on railtours etc
  14. I remember having quite some trouble finding them, ironically i saw them yesterday - https://slatersplastikard.com/scaleParts/7mmParts/locoParts/locoFittings.php 4th item down
  15. I'd also add that the instructions are fantastic - complete walk through - you can download a copy from Jim's website http://www.jimmcgeown.com/0%20Gauge%20Starter%20Loco%20pdf%20print%20off.pdf
