  1. I have done similar but with a toolmakers scribing block, I too had to turn my pencil to fit, I am amazed how many people build wonderful model locos that are ruined by non straight handrails. And unlike you Imperial is better , But i done my apprenticeship in imperial, much easier to understand. Really nice work, look forward to your posts.
  2. Hi all, Can someone direct me to a good thread on here regarding wooden sleepers please, I have looked but can not find much, I am painting my track sleepers , before i ballast it, but i can not get the wood colour quite right , so looking to see what others have used. Thanks Garry
  3. Regarding the boxes on the bottom of the firebox, I am pretty sure they are just metal covers that cover the boiler expansion brackets.
  4. The oily wheels look just right on this. Lovely
  5. Thankyou both, That has answered my question ,just the job.
  6. Hi all, I have a question about point, turnout motors . My latest E M gauge layout will be set in the late 1950s it will be southern region. I know nothing of the southern , i have always modelled the GWR in the past, so i am learning whilst i go along. I want to put as much detail as possible on the trackwork , so do points in this period have point motors visible, or just rods and locking mechanism's, I can not find much on the subject, I see that oo gauge suppliers do different types of point motors but have no idea what type to use if any. Thanks Garry
  7. I have edited my question as no it did not cover well at all. Not what Humbrol paint used to do.
  8. Hi all, I have used a new tin of Humbol paint today on a plastic model kit, The paint was rubbish, a lot more watery than the older paint and did not cover well, so i this normal now for Humbrol paints and if so can anyone recommend another brand . As i am not Happy, i have nearly scrapped my model signal box just because of the paint finish. Thanks Garry
  9. Thanks Rob, ill give them a try, They are for a class 44.
  10. Hi all, I am in need of some loco body screw, I have a Bachmann diesel loco that is missing its body screws, They look like they should be quite long. but i can not find any anywhere, I have tried peters spares and e bay but to no avail. Does anywhere know where i can try and get some. Thanks Garry
  11. Hi all, I have asked a question before , ref changing E M gauge turnouts, and the majority of answers were servo control. So my next question please, Where is the best place to buy all the components that i need for servo point operation, As i have no idea what i am doing in this , so it would be better to get all the parts from one suppler. Any help on this most welcome. Thanks Garry
  12. Thought i would post this for interest, it was on a facebook page, Credited to J spencer-gilkes. The coach has the crest on the side. and as someone above said, The southern never had them, not sure if it is a mk 1 though, but someone on here will know.
  13. Hi All, Can anyone tell me did rail over road bridges in the 1950s have warning height signs on them, as todays do, I have been online but can only find a picture of a 1950s road sign approaching a bridge, any info welcome. Thanks Garry
  14. Hi All, Can anyone tell me a Humbrol or Tamilya paint that is a close match for malachite green and B R cream, I have looked online and it did give me the info, but when i went to my local model shop they told me that these are no longer made. I know i can get phoenix paints, But i can only get Humbrol or Tamilya in my local model shop. The paint is for a B R southern region signal box. Thanks Garry
  15. Hi All, Hope someone can answer this as i have been online for an age trying to find out , and i am getting more confused, So do early mk 1 coaches 1950s period all have the round lion emblem on them, I have seen Hornby models without this, and some with it . and i am talking all regions . Thanks.
  16. Is the 4 bolt heads etch for the return crank, Seeing where they are on the etch, they have to be on the chassis some where and not for the body.
  17. Thankyou, everyone, i am looking at all these now, Someone above asked what pre grouping company, I am starting a new layout in E M. I was never happy with my oo gauge layout, And i did want to build midsomer norton, But i am now just doing a large layout some where on the southern region. Thanks again. Much Appreciated. Garry

  19. Really ,really nice, The only thing to make it better If you do not mind me saying, is it needs something in the windows, Then i think it would be spot on.
  20. Well, Thanks for the replies what a lot to take in, very confusing but at the same time very interesting . Thankyou for the info, as i said i am just building wagons for this period at the moment as i have other projects on the go . But as said above this period is most interesting and makes me want to model it even more . Garry
  21. Hi all, a question please, I build wagons now and again for a future 1950 period layout, But while looking at pictures on Paul bartletts web page, I have noticed that B R have grey and bauxite wagons, so it there a reason British railways have these 2 colours, did it mean anything and do i have both these colours in the 1950s. Thank you Garry

Garry
