40’s, 50’s and 60’s diesel prototype cabs
Charlie replied to Charlie's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Thanks for the offer, I’ve got the Bachmann NRM Deltic which is in the queue for a little detailing internally (crew, painted cab) so that info would be really helpful. Although I’d rather not touch the outside if I can help it, having that info would be good as well. I’ve since found a few cab pics, but being all in shades of grey and my not being especially au fait with interpreting the colours, the more help the better! Currently have 10203 open for a chip and service so help with that one would be good so I don’t have to open her up again if possible please. -
Hi guys, I’ve found pictures of the inside of the prototype Deltic (helpful for when I get round to it) and was wondering if there are any of the other prototypes anywhere? Specifically I’m looking for the Southern 10203, Lion, DP2 and Kestrel, with some idea of the colours if possible but at this point any would be good as my google-fu is struggling with some of these!

The J67/68/69 ‘Buckjumper’, By Accurascale
Charlie replied to Accurascale Fran's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
I have no idea of the cost, or viability of this, but is it possible to produce drop in wheel sets with the different number of spokes for those that wish for them? I realise that this is highly unlikely as you probably won’t get the sales to justify it, but if you don’t ask… -

I mean, if you are thinking of throwing the chassis away I will happily save you the cost of disposal and take them away rather than see them in the bin 😉 -

Excellent choice! I hope that the R24, R24r and C72 will also appear in GER colours in time. Maybe one in grey to go with Oxford Rails N7? -
I get both your points about the 08/09 and I guess with slide moulding it's also possible to do 10/11/12 from there (though isn't someone doing one of those?) Personally, would love a 13 and I know there's a conversion kit out there, but not all of us are skilled enough to get it to as high a standard as a R-T-R one. I don't know, but I assume upgrading the DCC plug wouldn't be that labour intensive. Not so sure what could be done about the coupling rods as people want the finesse from the fine detail rods, but that also means they don't have the robustness as a result. Without knowing what material is used I can't suggest an alternative. Not sure a new HST would have a market just yet with the relatively newly upgraded Hornby one being released, but then I didn't understand Bachman's need to release a new 37 last year either, not that I can afford it or there new 47... :(

What's wrong with Hornby's 08, Dapol's 52 or Bachmann's 70? (Or did you mean the old electric class 70?) They may have been mentioned, but the classes 81-84 have not had a sniff of interest so could they be possibilities? I believe the 85 is supposed to have done better than expected. As for MU's, we haven't had a 155 up to modern standards, with the possibility of a 153 on the back of that. Plus there's the Networker family as well. Or for something a little different/quirky, maybe the 139, though that has a really restricted interest group I suspect. If you want something steam wise, pre-grouping always seems to sell well ;)

My spring appeared to have started to push its way around the retaining screw so I’ve just removed it. Not sure it’s needed so maybe take it off and see if that helps reduce the wheelies?

Is it both buffer beams or just one? If it’s the front it could be the front bogie spring pushing it up as several have suggested it could be a little too strong. Mine’s currently running around our track, only derailed once due to uneven track, now sorted! But there also seems to be a squealing sound around one corner. Bizarre thing is that all corners are the same radius so no idea why it’s just this one that sets it off 🤔 Also, has anyone looked at their coupling rods and thought they looked a little wonky? Can’t see if anyone else picked it up on theirs.

He was, but looking at the thread it would appear ill health has, understandably, put this on something of a back burner. -

Class 37 split head code kit
Charlie replied to SouthernBlue80s's topic in Modifying & Detailing RTR stock
Any good? http://www.phd-design-etchings.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=25_28_63 -
I’m sure much more experienced minds than mine will be able to give a fuller answer, but check places like gaugemaster and peters spares for suitable bits. Failing that, some plastic boxes painted black inside to prevent light bleed. Remember that you will need one or two VERY dim warm white LED’s (colour and lack of illumination important due to the era) behind, I suggest, a printed paper headcode (not shiny or photo paper) to get the proper look. Incidently, the Dapol class 22 came with clear numbers, I stuck the ones I wanted to a piece of A4, peeled them off and the popped them in the light cluster. Worked well enough for me.

How far is it to go for there to an LNER Y5? So many similarities! -
