  1. Well I did promise a little progress this weekend. Second 318 driving car body built. Tomorrow my plan is to see if I can get some of the bogies done. All being well I may have the pan car and one driving car on wheels!

Brilliant Al, only just discovered this; clearly you showing me photos of your great ScR work at last months MIOG show has had an effect; Ive purchased a rail blue 26 from Rails and just converting a Lima 33 to a 27 between doing further works on Wheal Demelza. Some sort of McStan layout is looming.

ScR layouts are always of interest!!!! I can just see a 1970's West Highland Micro full of fish vans!!

Oh this is rather cool Al.

Not seen this before... any progress on it ?

    Cheers

    Steve

Thanks Steve, not a huge amount of progress at the moment, layout is at my mates to have back scenes fitted, once that's sorted and I have it back there will be plenty of progress all being well. As for the Units I have a day of modelling this Saturday so will hopefully crack on with a few bit. Hoping to move the 318 on as I now have the bits for the other driving car and chassis and if tis dry I'll do some more work tidying up the PEP bits in the garden, sanding makes a mess!!

I guess the Mexican Bean would be challenging in 7mm...

Easybuild kit later in the year all being well!!

Steve, with the 08, it is possible to use a Hornby TTS chip for a basic sound chip if you're not too bothered on the sound or lighting functions. One of mine uses one, but then it doesn't get much work!!

    Excellent Al, Thank you.

This is not in Richards collection of books I have.

Seems these are rarer than rockin horse doo doo..! Can't find any on the web for sale..

Not sure if these are still available  or if there is another print run planned?

However, I have found the SDEG website and sent an email asking them.

    Cheers

    Steve

Should have said, only available through the SDEG!

    Thanks Al,

I now know more than I did prior to your post ;o)

Nice photo too, illustrating your point.

I do have several of Richards books on the Class 26, and have to confess, I am  so busy with the layout, the loco's  are much  later in the project.

I can look for those differences within the books when I get there.

    Cheers

    Steve

    Steve,

The SDEG books are a great addition to any library, valuable source of info. I have all four books so far.

  6. 26's are one of my downfalls............ I think I have 6 so far..........

They are a minefield of different details even with the liveries, the RF version as mentioned there are various options of Dog, the Stag and I think a few had the Haymarket Castle. I think I have even found one with the ScR infrastructure logo under the second mans window. The one thing to watch (If you are so inclined) is a number of 26's received class 27 engine room doors for some strange reason. 26035 for example in the pic below you can clearly see the engine room door window is significantly higher than the other bodyside windows, this was only on one side.

BRITISH RAILWAYS CLASS 26 DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE 26035

Also watch out with 26/0's, the first batch have additional cant rail grills amongst other things.

Very nice.  You've certainly captured the shape.  Good luck with this - which I shall watch with interest (and probably awe!)

I've just tidied up the 3D prints I was handed and put tow ends together. A little more work and hopefully it can be cast in one piece.

Thanks Al. I was thinking of going for 37032 which is a straightforward renumber of 008.

That was potentially my other options, as I have modified the body to suit 008! I may just stick to 008 or go completely different!

  9. Those that popped past the MIOG stand at Kettering would have see the work I have been doing with some 3D printed parts for the BR PEP family of EMU's (313/314/315/507/508). This is the progress with the first two bodies. My long term goal is to be able to build a 314.

Based on the excellent listing page on your Modern Image O Gauge website, Sprinter (and Pacer!) DMUs - something I’m keen to acquire - have only been produced in kit form by Peter Clark.

Any recommendations for a kit building & painting service please?

Afraid I don't really know of a kit building service, it may be worth dropping Peter a line, he may be able to point you in the right direction. I have always thought they were out of my price range so tend to have a go myself!!

Hi Al, looks good, what do you use to remove the crud please? I am tempted by Heljans model of 37008 but the images I have seen show the weathering is awful and needs to come off and don't really want to get into full respray territory. Ta

White spirit and cotton buds, though others have suggested T-cut works quite well but I have not tried it. I even used some very fine wet & dry with white spirit on the Dogfish as I wasn't too concerned about cutting through the paint! I was planning on doing 008, I have a body and all the transfers to do it but now Heljan have picked it I may look at an alternative.

If not a Roundy, then maybe an "L" or a "U".If you used the diagonal you could get 10.8ft.Do what I did, draw out your desired boards on the floor, then put your track out on them, see how it goes.I used chalk on the patio............

I used to mark OO layouts out on the living room floor with masking tape! Never actually managed to build one though!!

Some really nice progress here. putting me to shame! I am going to have to pull my finger out and crack on with a few bits.

  13. Not quite sure where form but I have finally found a tiny bit of motivation, so amongst a few other odds and sods I have dug my Peter Clark 156 out of its box and actually made some progress. One body is now just about done, I have just glued the cab on so that is now setting. and both underframes are well on the way. Hopefully grab a few missing bits off Pete at Kettering next week and might even get this ready for paint this Spring.

Ah that is very kind! As it happens I was collared by Steve Farmer and Dave Tailby at the Warley show whilst looking at Steve's lovely O gauge 'Hillport Goods' layout and they made a very strong case for me taking up the big trains sport! It does look awfully tempting when you see the price of a Dapol '08' and just how much model you get for your money! Never say never I guess..!

    Cheers,

    James

Hillport Goods is coming to MIOG 2024 at Crewe Heritage Centre at the end of March. I am sure we could find you something to practice on!!!!!
