Thanks for the information. I had a feeling I had seen a photo of one with a set of wheels on board.

Can anyone advise if British Rail used Leyland Boxers?

Interesting to see they were still using Bedfords into the 1980's. Same colour scheme, but more modern typeface.
Thanks for the photos.
Yes Bedfords were the main force in the newspaper/magazine industry for many years.

Did Commer export the Q25. Looking at the front axle and the quarter light window could it be one?

The Commer Walkthro was not introduced until 1961/62. I started driving one in 1962
Passed my driving test on it as well.! Woud not be allowed today for a 17 year old.
Keith.
Looks like the 30cwt version. Seem to remember the handbrake was on the steering column? Did a night run from Tunbridge Wells to Bristol and back in 1973.

Mike (Stationmaster) posted as I was writing mine. I have obtained the information from 'Kaleidoscope of Shevloke and Drewry' published by Warne. It states that the biggest user was the London Brick Company with approximately 170 units but British Railways had over 70 at one time. As I said above the 'Dual Drive' was not very common so I assume the next ones will be of the single cab type.
On the following site http://public.fotki.com/boballoa/british-road-services/brs-in-england/photos 98 & 141 show BRS using them. Loading cars at Prestcold and the other loading pipes?

The Leyland / Reeve Burgess bus looks like B912DMW which was staff transport at Margam depot.
The Dodge S56 crew van was a fairly uncommon vehicle, although I did see one at Birmingham Moor St.
I wonder who owned the Ford Cargo, it may have belonged to NCL.
Facinating.
Merfyn,
It appears that The Magstar cargo was operated for BR by Mitchell Cotts Transport. Who were a large contract hire firm. Taken over in 1988 by I think Transfleet, part of the Lex Group.
