  1. Just a quick update to let anybody know who has been following my thread etc.

I have had to put my modelling on the back shelf so to speak due to loosing my Father to the dreaded Covid virus recently. This has had a knock on effect as my Dad was my Mums full time carer, as she has had two strokes. Since my Dads passing, my Mum became positive to the virus, so my time is taken by looking after her full time. At present she is making good progress, not bad for someone who is 83 in march. (She will thank me for making that known !)

The little bit of modelling I have managed is on the rolling stock front, one being the re-motoring of my super detailed Lima class 40. It really is too good a model to just sit at the side gathering dust, so I took the plunge and fitted a new motor from Strathpeiffer models.

The other bits I have managed are the renumbering of a couple of Bachmann class 40s.

Sorry to hear the sad news. Hope your mum improves, take care of yourself too.

Wise words - with which I completely agree.

I also know that being a carer is an "immersive experience" - never mind 24/7, this often feels more like 25/8 - and the added grief certainly doesn't help, as I know from personal experience.

You've got a lot to deal with at the moment - a lot of stress right now - and lots more to follow.

Chances are you also won't have much time to yourself - and you'll really need what little time you do get.

If you get chance to do any hobby stuff - if you're actually able to concentrate on it - it's likely to be a welcome break.

If not, hobby stuff can wait - and so can updates to sites like this. You'll still enjoy this stuff at a later date - and I'm sure that most people round here will still be supportive.

I don't think there's a lot more I can usefully say right now - it's already been said, by somebody else.

      Take care.

Many thanks for your kind words and support Rochdale Rd & Huw. Very much appreciated.

  2. Well I finally finished the mk 2d. Doesn’t look too bad for it’s age as it’s an early Dapol one. Might do the FO next which currently is in intercity red stripe livery.
  3. Hope everyone is keeping safe and enjoying this beautiful weather. I’ve been meaning to get into the garden to have a go at respraying an old Dapol MK2d coach. I wanted to change it from intercity livery to scotrail livery. Hoping to remove the branding a and numbers with rubbing them down with just the red stripe to repaint NO Lol. Rubbing down removed the inter city grey as well as these are very old models. So I had to respray all the light grey areas and change the red stripe to Scotrail blue. There was a bit of paint that came off after taking the 2nd lot of masking off to do the blue, and two small spots on the white line which I can paint back in no problem. The light grey will be blown in where it’s come off before varnishing. Feel free to comment.
  4. These are the photos of 25023 from which the idea came about . First at Eastfield and the 2nd at Ayr.
  5. Class 25/0 detailing done now just the weathering to do
  6. The other Loco had some time spent on it is this class 20 which has been renumbered from 20174 to 20206
  7. Lovely little layout, captures the theme just right
  8. And with the ploughs fitted. They look too bulky but will do for now. I will paint the yellow bars behind the plough black to blend into the buffer beam.
  9. Class 25/0 almost done. Just details to add and weather.
  10. Just a few snaps today of the cold store, new loading platform and the new 24/1, which may be comverted to a 25/0 if I can get a spare inderfeame from Bachmann and take off the water tanks ! Hopefully this week will see the baseboards and canopies painted ready for building on the layout to commence once I have got the boards bolted together.
  11. Hi Unfortunately due to personal circumstances the layout hasn't advanced at all, however I have been building up stock, track, buildings etc. I will also be making a start on the layout soon due to time in lockdown etc, so I may be posting more pics soon. The cold store is from a Dutch company called Artitec. Also type in Cold store on an internet search, which will bring up a gallery of searched items. There is another company that does a similar one in brick, but not as British looking in appearance
  12. Hi Steve

I have finally found you on here. I was admiring your signals at the Blackburn show on Saturday. (fantastic stuff).

I was asking if you did commission work, to which you replied ''Im supposed to be giving it up ''

If you are still doing them it would be nice to add one or two to my new layout.

Hope to be in touch soon

    Kind regards

    Simon

  13. BR blue is the main era modelled. I was talking with a well known trader and they stated this era is now the most popular, (based on models sold, and that’s what it’s about for the manufacturers). Given that most people will not have space for block trains or lengthy passenger trains, I would think a good choice for small layout operators are the class 26/27 Scottish loco’s. Why not do a pack with a 26 or 27 and a MK1 BSK & or TSO/ SK. I find rtr rolling stock is an issue to put behind a blue diesel as they are very limited in what is produced. Yes kits are available but not everyone is comfortable having to build stock. These are just my personal Thoughts on what is a fabulous hobby.
  14. Hello everyone. Just a few words and an update on Newton Harbour. I have been adding some items of rolling stock of late, these being 2 class 37s in large logo livery, 37114 and 37043. I will post some photos in due course. Also I have added a blue class 37 with sound, a class 47708 in Scotrail and a DBSO. I have just purchased an old Dapol Mk 2d in Inter City livery, this will be rebranded in Scotrail blue to run as an add on/ spare rake set for uses other than Glasgow/Edinburgh push pull traffic................I know Im stretching things here, but the DBSO is a wonderful model and needs must !!! I will post some photos soon, as this is a busy time for work leading up to Christmas etc, also I am in a new relationship, so trains are taking a back seat until I can get my other half to accept that she needs not to be too jealous over them !!! Regards Simon
  15. Hi everyone. Well its been a while since I have posted anything, and to be honest, its been a while since I actually did any modelling. With going self employed, and work to do at home, modelling has taken a back seat over the summer (it was too hot to start crawling around under baseboards etc). So now the weather has cooled down, I think its time to tackle some more work on the baseboards. Where to start???? I have purchased all the new bullhead track and points, built the bullfrog hand pull point switches for installing (notice a lot of bull here !!!). I have got the cork underlay, so I think thats where I will start. I will need to add a couple of layers (6mm) to the harbour base so as to keep the harbour walling in line with the baseboard top (on 3mm base). This should give just a nice shoulder for the inset track area in front of the cold store and loading dock to fit flush against the harbour top. So I think that is where I will start, then onto the track laying, which wont be easy with the canopy top supports already in place as its the only way to built these boards (my only criticism). Oh and before all that begins, I need to dismantle my other layout Rockvilla and put into storage (or sell it!) enabling me to get things moving. I will post photos as and when I can, and feel free to comment Simon
