  1. Hi Paul, I was wondering if you could help me - I would like to fit stay alive capacitors to the latest Bachmann Zimo 6 pin decoder (in Bachmann oo 03 of shunter)

36–568A but can’t find any information on this particular version

it appears to have been updated and the solder pads do not correspond with what is on the Zimo website

not sure if the extra pad at the bottom is for stay alive - would I need to put a resistor in series with a capacitor?

any help on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated

thanking you in advance Graham H

Hi Paul, thanks for the quick reply. CV250 is reading a value of 192.

It’s actually coming up as a Zimo Elektronik (145) on my ECoS

CV250=292 makes this a ZIMO MX622N. (Rebranded as Bachmann).

That being so, in the orientation of your second photo, the top right pad is negative and bottom left, (OR alternatively the 4th down from the negative)  are both positive pads.

For small capacitance say 220uF a 33 ohms resistor should be in the positive lead to guard against inrush current.

For larger capacitances, a diode and choke resistor will also be required.

Thanks Paul, I was really stuck

I didn’t want to guess, obviously regards damaging the decoder. You probably don’t remember but you’ve helped me in the past - a few years ago with the class 24 (still the best loco / sound and project in my opinion)

thank you once again genuinely appreciated it
