I suspect the whole idea with DC Controllers will be quietly dropped .

I hope that the idea of DC PSUs won't be dropped as I thought that this would be an excellent and cost effective way for a DCC Sound O gauge shunting plank. Everything on hold at the moment as my chosen mobile is Android.

Given electronics is my day job I'm quite happy to sort out an appropriate PSU for myself, I'll stick a DC/DC and a circuit breaker on the output anyway to give a nice flat 15V at up to 4A.

What type of circuit breaker would you recommend and where would you source them?

    It's not a wall-wart, it's a transformer with a lead and UK 3-pin plug ( which will have a fuse in it. ) Hornby HM700 R7337.

I would imagine the PSU has over current and short circuit protection built in.

That sounds like the 4A PSU. In the launch video SK states that the 1A 1.2A and the 4A "transformers" can be used.

Not seen it expressly mentioned, how do the soundchips fit with locos which already have with factory fitted speakers?

On the 18 pin decoder pins 7 and 16 are the speaker output, it is likely that these pins will be routed to the internal speaker from the loco pcb and the speaker socket on the decoder.

One question though, if the decoders have serial numbers HM7000_XXXX, where XXXX is a 4 digit hexadecimal number, what happens if they sell more than 65535 decoders????

There can be more than one hex value that corresponds to HM7000_.
So they may display the same but have different hardware addresses.

  6. Westerns at Paddington, Peaks at St Pancreas, Deltics at the Cross

Through the foot tunnel to Stratford depot or tagging along to coach party at Finsbury Park

Walk into Old Oak Common and occasionally Willesden Junction.

Midland Electrics at Wealdstone or Stanmore, and HST Prototype from Southall footbridge

Not forgetting holidays in scotland with 27s at Dundee.

  7. Interestingly looking at the advert for the 4-VEPs on the inside front cover of the September issue of Hornby magazine,

both the NSE and all over blue livery 4-VEPs have all black gangway connections and either weathered or "shopped" cable recesses.

  8. Picked mine up today

I know I shouldn't open it up till Christmas

but I can confirm that it does not have working lights.

These Pacifics are fiddly things to put on the track, its been a long time.

Very nice bit of kit though
