  1. You could make them look like re-patched areas!
  2. Have you seen the new GertBot for the Raspberry Pi that can control DCC? http://www.gertbot.com/
  3. Interesting. I have seen a lot better quality prints than that coming off the printer they are using there (Prusa Mendel i2) - which is the same as I am building. I have also seen *VERY* high quality by comparison off some of the more recent printer models... This will be fun! Now where did I put those Z-axis springs...
  4. I just read all through that. Wow. I hope I can get the same sort of quality with my RepRap and PLA... I guess I will find out when I have finished building it!
  5. I may have missed it, but what printer are you using? Have you thought about printing the points/etc rather than milling them?
  6. How do you have block occupancy with the reader though? Is it upon entering/exiting a block, or is it a RFID reader for the length of that block?
  7. Thanks... Guess I won't be heading that way then.
  8. Is it possible to run 2mm fs engines/stock on N gauge track? Looking at starting to build 2mmfs kits up but the only layout would be a nice big N gauge one..
  9. I think I'm going to have to use this as inspiration (read: copy track plan and do my own twist) It looks like it's small enough to hold my attention long enough to get done... whilst being able to keep it safe from the kids and SWMBO! I can only hope to get it halfway as good at this looks... *very* well done!
  10. They have a plow on the front of all the locos - more of a cow-catcher though. We just don't have the big f**kers you guys do...
  11. Stay safe! Let us know how it went when you get back!
  12. OK I did miss it... Would you be able to post a howto - electronics, framing, etc?
  13. Could you not mount end-boards for the non-track-level stock?
  14. Have I missed how you built this? I'd be keen for something like this at home too...!
  15. How does CBUS/MERG gear integrate with the Digitrax gear I already have? Can it?
  16. On that note.. I wonder how hard or reliable it would be to do the same thing from the other angle - 3d printing? You could do some really complex bits of trackwork that way...
  17. I'd actually be keen for EEN... Although not too keen to have to pay for membership to the 2mm sa to be able to get the right stuff for it... How hard is it to connect up Easitrak to standard peco kit? Nate
  18. I concur. We were in the Central City for the September one, moved over to Heathcote in time for the big one there... then up to Kaiapoi in time for the December lot! Don't worry Joe - we aren't planning on moving again any time soon! The kids are a bit of a hinder here too... it's an older house so rooms are small, and where there is space it's not for long...
  19. One thought - perhaps make a plastic cover that folds out from the walls and hangs over? soft plastic with timber holding it on the wall and a weight on the other side of the layout could work? Fold it out of the way when it's rabbit-supervising time and cover the layout afterwards
  20. It's actually quite easy for the wet stuff... pick up some off the garden and plop it all over the model in little piles... for additional effect pile it up and pour water over it Thankfully we haven't been put out much at all by the quakes - although we did buy a house just before the December aftershocks... There are so many much worse off than we are
  21. Try living in Chch, NZ... I'm not even sure where my local modelling shop went!
  22. It looks really good. Well done! Watching this for inspiration...
